    The best guitar on the market for the price hands down. Owned Taylor’s ...martins you name it, And this one is by far the best bang for your buck. Light weight, easy to play , just all around perfect mess around guitar. Don’t think twice on this one if you are trying to find an inexpensive high quality guitar.

    I bought one of these, mine have the vintage tint. I played eight of them at the local GC until I found the one I liked. I replace the nut and saddle with bone and dropped the action. Added some brass bridge pins to help the mile thick clear coat resonate.
    Yamaha strings are great, but they don't last long so I found mine likes Martin silk and steel.
    A little tweaking and you take a good guitar to a great guitar. O have paws for hands and the nut with isn't a problem for me. I seem to be able to play longer without reaching as far.
    I second the motion. This is the perfect guitar for beginners, budding super stars, or old dudes that don't want to depreciate their over priced guitars.
    At $200 buy two or three, keep one in the bathroom so you can jam on the can.

    • @erichuff6945
      @erichuff6945 4 роки тому +1

      @@JairajSinghPatil use gaged files at the nut to bring the strings down if needed. Then remove the saddle and sand material from the bottom a little at a time. It is tricky work and time consuming. Used to be music shops would do this to all the guitars they got in but now only a few will do the work and they charge for it.

    • @neilmartin99

      How did you drop the action? The saddle is low profile especially at the high E due to the curvature of the saddle bone.

    Today, 10-2-2020, I spent an hour at a national guitar chain store and played this guitar. I was shocked how nice it played and the volume is insane for the price and size. It is not tiny but it is not a full size dreadnaught. The action was very comfortable and the string gauge they used for the demo was a perfect set-up. I am going to get it. I just have to return a $125 guitar I just bought which does not have near the quality or sound that I was wanting. For an extra $75 I think I will not go bankrupt and will enjoy the Yamaha FS800 more for years and years. It will be my second guitar but one I will play more often as the size is more comfortable than my Simon & Patrick Rosewood dread.

    Just bought this guitar on August 6, 2020. I bought it because it sounded very melodic and the neck felt very good in my left hand. I've practiced several hours a day loving the beautiful sound the guitar makes. I had no idea this was such a fine instrument for a very reasonable price. I'm playing many songs, lots of chords, a little fingerstyle, and learning the fretboard. While you are learning the guitar, enjoy the process and the beautiful music you create.

    Yamaha guitars looks wonderful. As for me, since I have never played any of yahama, I can only express my love how it looks to me. 200 USD is worth 14,000 Indian rupees. It is so expensive here. Or even wish to buy any other products from Yamaha, you will have to travel 254km Road distance. Wish I had one of them.

    My first "real" guitar was (is) a Yamaha FG410 that I bought in 1986. I still have it, and its sound has only improved with age. Yamaha makes terrific instruments for people on a budget, with remarkable tone for the cost. I've played (and owned - I'm much better ar acquiring than at selling 🙃) a number of other acoustics, and that one is still a favorite. 🙂

    I just heard someone playing the guitar at Guitar Center and it sounded really good. I looked and saw he was playing a Yamaha. He put it down and I picked it up, surprised to see it was only $220. I played it and really enjoyed it (as a beginner). It sounded crisp and loud, clear note distinction, and was easy to fret. I played other guitars but always came back this one. Just took it home today

    Novice/beginner here: Hadn't seen any reviews or anything prior - Picked one up yesterday at Guitar Center after demo-ing a lot of what was on the shelves and it sounded much better than some of the guitars double or triple the price. I don't know much about the quality of components - but the feel and sound was very nice, imo. $199+ tax. I'm moving up from an even cheaper guitar that broke, so I'm psyched to start practicing again. I'll fix the broken one (tuning peg) and keep that one in the hot RV and keep the FS800 in the house. Makes no sense for a beginner like me to spend a ton on an instrument at this time.

    Sounds like an amazing deal. Been out of guitar for like 10 years since I got into it half heartedly and with improper training the first time, but definitely inspired to get back into it the right way.
    I remember the first acoustic I had back then for under $200 was absolutely terrible. The strings were so stiff and difficult to push down which ruined everything.
    Definitely will pick this one up to start with! That sound projection seems pretty amazing as well.

    These guitars are great for beginners, but they are also very good guitars, period, and are perfect for those on a more limited budget. I wouldn't hesitate to own one, and I've been playing for 33 years. Yamaha makes excellent guitars and IMO are the best value on the market.

      Actually body size does not matter that much. Buy what you like and I doubt it matter much.
      FS have a smaller body which more comfortable to play while FG louder because it is a dread. That's all. FIngerstyle players tend to prefer FS version. But like I said, it doesn't matter much really

  • @geeeemn5010
    @geeeemn5010 11 місяців тому +2

    This is a very nice guitar for beginners and experienced players alike. The smaller body makes it lightweight and perfect for traveling. The tone is a bit on the bright side. It's quite loud for its size. The narrow neck makes it easy for people (especially kids) with small hands to play. A short time ago, these guitars were going for $199, and are now going for $229. That's still a steal for a well-built solid spruce top guitar. If you're thinking about getting one, do it before prices go up again (they will).

    Great review, Tony. My first guitar, and still my favorite, is a Yamaha F-335 at just under $300 back when I was given this for my 30th birthday. Now that it’s a little older, having my local Guitar Center set it up, lower the action, and replace the nut with tusk, it punches some excellent tunes and really has a great crisp sound with my Elixir strings. I still think you need to review the Yamaha Transacoustic just for kicks. I’m telling you if you just don’t have an amp, but some friends want you to play in a small crowd, THIS GUY FITS THE BILL! Keep those reviews coming, Tony!

    • @dcarts5616
      @dcarts5616 5 років тому +4

      Agreed! Sometimes you read a comment like yours and one would think it's being said because of cost of a better guitar. Honestly though, higher cost does NOT always equate to a better sounding guitar or better playability, and this guitar line is one of those (although I think the FS line sounds better than the FG).
      On another note, I really want to try and play in person one of the LS26 or LS36 line from Yamaha. They are hand built in Japan, where as the LL/LS 6 and 16 lines are hand built in China. I just cannot find any guitar dealers who carry them, especially with how rare it is to find even the 6/16 lines anywhere.

    I know it’s been 2 years since you posted this video, but man is this guitar awesome. I play a $1500+ Martin 000 as my “main” guitar and picked this one up to bring to campfires, the beach, etc. I wish I could attach pics or video to this post because it is almost the exact same size and sounds close enough. Feels like home. Is the Martin worth $1000 more? Absolutely. But if I were a beginner who was trying to learn basic chords and barre chords, it wouldn’t make a difference. It’s close enough for that use. Plus, since the string spacing is closer, it’s a heck of a lot easier to play. If you’re a beginner or looking for a backup guitar, or one you don’t mind getting trashed if you’re out and about, don’t hesitate. This line is totally worth it at $200.

    A couple of weeks ago I was at my local music store several days in a row. Hanging in the acoustic room just behind the glass wall was a certain unidentified guitar that kept calling me from across the store. On the first few days I was unable to investigate for lack of time but when I finally managed to get in there I made a bee line for it, preparing myself for sticker shock (for how good-looking it was).
    The shock I experienced was two-fold, in fact. Once after seeing the price tag and realizing that I guessed WAY too high, and again while playing it and thinking to myself "THIS CAN NOT BE RIGHT". This is absolutely the sweetest sounding little guitar they had in the room, and I was comparing to similar style guitars from Martin, Larrivée and others which cost 5 times as much but were not half as much fun to play.
    I was ready to buy it right there and then when I noticed a second tag which read "Store Demo Only; Not For Sale". Apparently I'm not the only one who's fallen for the Yamaha FS800T (The T is for the "sand" color variant). It's been on back-order at Long & McQuade for weeks and I don't know when they'll get it in again what with the pandemic. If you find one you can buy, BUY IT. For yourself or for your kid or someone just starting out or, frankly, for any reason at all. This thing is an incredible steal.

The FS800 as shown in the video will have less base but on the flip side have more treble more clarity in notes and be comfortable for couch, campfires or events. Well you’ve got my attention. I’ve got a 1960s Yamaha FG75 that is starting to get a belly. It was my grandfathers and the only acoustic I have ever liked (probably biased as it was my first guitar so there is a sentimental value). I’ve been looking into guitars now that I want to retire it (basically remove the strings to stop the belly from growing) and I would love something similar in size and play, which could be this. Love the small profile of it.

I wanted to lower the action (it's like 4 mm) and the guitar shop I brought it too said it isn't worth it because of the belly (to me you can hardly see anything) so I just tighten the truss rod myself and seems to be fine, but I may lossen the truss all the way to keep the belly from getting worse.

    Some back up specs gleaned from on-line. Nut width is 1 11/16", scale length is 25" (at the long end of short scale), and the description is defined as "concert" size. (Maybe that means lower bout under 16" ?) All of which supports Tony's assertion as easier for beginners. (Personally I can play either 1 11/16" or 1 3/4" without a problem.)

      @@HabibHussain-uy7lg I would suggest trying both and choosing from that. I just bought a FG800 and went back to exchange it for the FS800. I think being a little smaller they are more comfortable to play (I am 5'7'' but if you are like 6'' the FG800 should fit you just fine). Also I find the FS800 easier to play finger style. I usually alternate between picking and finger style so I wanted something versatile. FG800 has better sound in my opinion due to the bigger body size but not enough to make me choose it over the FS. Hope this can be helpful to you! they are both great choices. enjoy!

    I acquired my FG800 a week ago. Son has the FG830 and his son the F335. Traded another brand guitar for the 800 at Guitr Center. Salesman warned me I
    was trading a superior brand guitar for a lower on the pecking order (the 800). I didn't tell him the superior brand had loads of trouble staying in tune fro gig to gigs. Tht I could have it tuned to 440 in G Major then if I changed kets it was outta tune in the new key. I could've changed tuning machine from the crappy
    OEM tuners to Weatherleys or Grovers. But why spend anymore cash on the "Superior" guitar? The 800 joins my Martin in the go to club!!! I'm hauling water
    for Yamaha. I admit it

    Loved this guitar out of the box.
    The only problem was when it was
    time to change strings, I could not get the same sound as what the
    guitar came with from the factory.
    Contacted Yamaha and they recommended D'addario EXP 11.
    They sounded horrible on this guitar.
    Further investigation led me to Yamaha FS50BT strings. $16 a set. OUCH
    Ordered a set. Should have them in a few days.
    In the meantime, I put on a set of D'addario EJ16 phosphor Bronze.
    They sound ok but still not getting the mids and the lows to replicate the original strings.
    A bit too tinny.
    Hopefully the Yamaha strings do the trick.
