    Mandarin didn't have to do this, but they did. It was a kind thing to do especially in times like these.
    This was the intention of the video - to show them giving back to the community.
    I do not wish to see any derogatory comments please cause it will bring out my evil side and that means I will have to block your A$$. Sorry… and thank you.

    It warms the heart to see the effort to offer free food for so many. Kudos to Mandarin for offering this on Canada Day.

      They can more than afford it. It's a PR job and a huge tax write off.

      Not as much as you imagine. These buffets make money on the extras (mostly drinks which cost 2 cents but are sold for 3$). At the end of that day, Mandarin still made a lot of money. Never the less, this was a genius marketing move.

      @@ericgaudreau4287 I never buy drinks - I just ask for water.
      Yes, it's a genius (and genuine) marketing move but what I don't get is, if this is such a great tax write off why doesn't Mandarin do it more often instead of every 5 years?
      In fact, why don't other large restaurant chains or restaurants in general, do this?

    I would drive away too. I havent been since they stopped serving the crab. They serve barely any chinese food in the buffet.

    • @kathyb-007
      @kathyb-007  22 дні тому +3

      That's funny, there were lots of Chinese food when I went to one recently. As for the crabs, they probably stopped serving them since people were piling them so high on their darn plates, (all for under $30 at the the time), that the ocean eventually ran out of crabs.

      @jeil5676@@kathyb-007 I can confirm they had Chinese food, both authentic Chinese and North American style.
      It's a nice gesture on the part of Mandarin's immigrant (Chinese-Canadian) owner/staff. Nevertheless, I wouldn't have waited the 2 or 3 hours; I rather pay.

      @@jeil5676 that makes absolutely no sense but to each their own.
      They have plenty of choices and variety to choose from.
      I guess it all comes down to preference. I've always considered myself a foodie and always thought crab legs to be a waste of time to eat

    Not the first time they have done this for people whom don't know. First ever i tried was back in 2004, and no luck. Me and a friend left after .
    2014, i was shocked another friend wanted to go and i ranted about my bad experience of line up seems like its for low class peasants. And come now 2024, nobody bothered me and so glad i never wasted my time. You Get what you pay for , as the saying goes .

    • @kathyb-007
      @kathyb-007  21 день тому +1

      … and they got a lot for not paying any money. Thanks for sharing your personal insight but regardless of the wasted time, personal bigotry etc., these people found it justified in being there. Nothing wrong with that.
      Btw, Mandarin actually started their Canada Day FREE buffet celebration back on July 1, 1996!

      Yes, for sure. Toronto is way more populated, but it was much longer earlier... about 3 hours earlier before they opened. We were shocked when we went back to see how much shorter the line became. I was going to add it at the end of this video but I didn't like the quality of it. Perhaps I should have anyways. :)

    Let's get to the reality. Waiting in line for hours in this heat, for a $40 freebie is absolutely ludicrous.
    Wake up people, its not about the generosity and good will, it's about a huge PR job.
    My time alone is worth more than $40

      Sure it’s probably a PR job but so? That’s the best darn PR job I’ve seen in a long time. Either way, it’s a win-win situation. They get publicity and people get free food… and probably a chance to eat out at a nice restaurant for the first time in a long time.
