It’s hard to sound as good in a live version when (a) you’re nervous (b) you don’t get to do thirty takes and splice together one recording from the best parts of each of those takes (c) don’t have hours, days and weeks of modification and addition to the vocals, from delay/reverb to pitch correction, compression, etc, and instead have to rely on one day of sound checks/testing (d) don’t have double tracking, phasing/flanging and other effects and so on.
