Tahlia, we had two different male Cardinals frequent our feeders last year that were missing feathers on their heads; one completely, and the other partially bald. When we first noticed them, we were concerned that they had some type of fungus or disease, and were afraid they might affect other birds at the feeders, but googling revealed they were molting and it was harmless. We get a lot of Cardinals in our yard, so I don’t know if any of them are the same ones that were molting last year, but we’ve not seen any of them since last year. My husband & I are both bird nerds, lol.
That's so fascinating! I love watching the birds move and interact. They are beautiful, and at times a bit of personality seems to show through. We had a couple of cowbirds that starting fighting each other the other day. And on a different day, a female house finch kept chasing a field sparrow from the feeder. Eventually, the field sparrow got tired of being bullied and found snagged a friend; the female house finch decided that she didn't want to take on both field sparrows and deigned to share the feeder with them. We now have a young house finch tagging along with his dad every time dad comes to eat at the feeder. At times, he's almost sitting on dad! It's cute to watch as the young house finch is slowly getting a little more confident and ventures a few hops away from dad on the feeder. Have you spotted any young birds emerging from the nests to start eating at the feeder? God Bless...
@@FranciscanGypsy So far, we’ve had two sets of baby sparrows (3 babies in each), and one young cardinal. I’ve not seen the babies eat at my feeder (at least not while babies), but I’ve seen their parents eating, then flying nearby to feed their babies. The babies are so cute to watch, the way they excitedly start flapping their wings when mom or dad comes with food.
I haven't gotten much done because of trying to pack. It seems the house we are renting has to have major foundation and plumbing work so we may be moving as eating as some time next month. Still only 1.5 arms in use so that slips things down to. I did take a break and did some solar dyeing of yarn. And now back to sorting. Have a great week.
It's never too late! 😘 I'm so glad that you enjoy the projects. We're hoping to have a bit more variety/progress once we move to the once a month schedule (plus the monthly zoom), allowing for more dedicated crafting time. God Bless...
