- I made a very big mistake and attempted to let twitch chat try and teach me how to play Victoria 2. I had a dream of massive conquest as Sicily, however that didn't go quite to plan.
Victoria II is a grand strategy game played during the colonial era of the 19th century, where the player takes control of a country, guiding it through industrialisation, political reforms, military conquest, and colonization.

I hope they make vic 3 as easy to learn as ck3 because that one has glowing words in sentences so you can learn what everything is as you go. And its tutorial is pretty well made
@@callumander4141 there is a difference between dumbing it down, and being better at teaching players you know.
@@callumander4141 i disagree, i think it should be balanced, so that both new and old players understand the game, or atleast have an actual good tutorial

Of course the game shouldn't be made unnecessarily easy just to cater to casual players. But if it can be made easy to learn, while still being in itself fairly difficult, that should be done to not unnecessarily discourage potential new players.
@@NiaTheBlunderer Agreed. I love eu4 and hoi4, but I could never get in to ck2, I always felt overwhelmed with stuff I couldn't grasp. But I'm loving ck3. It's hard, extremely random, but I understand why stuff happens, and what I can do to improve my chances.

Alex, play Divergences of darkness,, it is a really cool alt history mod. I would recommend burgundy, as it is a middle power with a lot of colonies.

So the reason the Papal States attacked you is because (I think, been a while since I played an Italy game) all the secondary power Italian states have a Italian (Re)unification casus belli on each other (through decisions I believe) either that or they justified on you and didn't get caught which is hilarious to me. Your infamy did not affect the choice, they attacked because the majority of your forces were away. Also, rebels can spawn as different unit types depending on the pop type that is rebelling. Those rebels were purely infantry and because of that they were able to to beat your own infantry stack. For early game you should have 10 units per army, 1 reconnaissance unit (a hussar preferably), 4 infantry (Guards are fine too but cycle them out in late game) and 5 artillery. Its a good early unit composition and ironically the AI can't beat it unless they death stack it. Late game, just double that composition. Of the Italian states, Sardinia-Piedmont is the best to play starting off there because they start with a alliance with France. Also, early game it is best to get at least 2% clergy for literacy. Boosting soldiers to 5% in your cores is also a good idea since it means you will have a fairly decent army size of people loyal to you (as non-core pops tend to join liberation movements which might result in rebels appearing in your non-core army groups). In army tech, researching in the Light Armament tree will allow you to lower combat width for yourself which is quite handy when it comes to fighting your foes.
for beginner I would recommend russia, it got some problems, sure.
But you can try to fix them ;)
Short guide to russia:
Switch government so you can build factories your own.
Spam some cheap factories out.
Destroy your navy
Defund the army
Put every focus on clergymen.
with that you gain money, slowly literacy.
Then you can do whatever you want
AND build Railroads even if you have capitalists ;)

the reason they said don't build railroads is because you're (at the start) supposed to give minimal taxes to the rich so they build for you

Anyone know if I need the mods to get anything out of Victoria II? Or is vanilla fine?
You can play vanilla but as soon as I got mods I just never played vanilla again, they make the experience much better.
Vannila (with dlc) is fine, tho there are some really good mods that enhance the game like HPM and HFM

when someone spheres you they're called into any wars declared on you and they have to kill your rebels for you but you can't sell produced goods to anyone but whoever sphered you (i could be wrong on that list bit)
