I was wondering if it could be done. It seems like it would be easier in a way, but I have only done RC cars a few times and am an equipment operator here and there so I"m used to running lifts and excavators backwards (my preferred way to walk them any distance) but with the stakes of crashing a plane, it seems like first person would be easier but also cool as hell, maybe scary.
Now all you have to do is by a second hand F-18 Hornet from the Navy, when they have a Black Friday super sale and fly it like you did the model jet ! 😂 ….. (I’m serious!)

What a cool jet! You are living every little boy's dream! We never grow up, the toys just get bigger and more expensive. Energy management is the same struggle in bigger planes too as you move to faster and more slippery birds. If you bounce off the runway, you have excess energy (speed). Cutting power back at the right time and nailing your approach speed is the magic that makes or breaks a good approach and landing.
Its not that difficult to do, especially if the object you are filming is basically stationary. Any reasonable FPV "drone" pilot could do that, even me. 🙂 Good light and a sunny day really helps with getting a good image too.
@GaijinGamerGirl Precisely how much of this do you think is unsafe? They're at an airfield built for RC jets, being instructed by an experienced model jet pilot. And don't forget the usual feild they fly at, is right between the Freedom Factory / Braedenton Raceway and Cleetus workshop facility, they fly more then we see.
Wow, good job Cleetus. I flew RC for years and that was not an easy plane even for an experienced flyer to just jump on the controls and land like that.....very nice.

Hey Cleetus check out the fpv setup for those you can fly it like you are actually sitting in the cockpit and they have head tracker goggles that will let you look around with the camera so it is almost like a virtual reality headset but it’s the jet your flying so bad ass

41:15 this needs a dyno marlin wrap!! Literally has the pointy bill!! You could call it the red marlin because there’s already a white & blue marlin so this would make the red white & blue baaaaaabyyyyy💪🏼
The delta wing supposedly can have a much higher angle of attack on landing than a wing with less than 30° sweep. It also generates humungus lift at those high angles. This is only useful in landing. But at the high angles (15-20 degrees) it also creates humongous drag. So a go around can involve a slow transition to safe climb configuration. But something to experiment with on landing. All the residual thrust probably makes it trickier to set up for high nose landings. Deltas are a breed of their own. Then with the canard, that throws in another element, which may negate everything I just said, as it controls the stall angle. Have fun. Cool machine.

I miss the flying, but I don't miss the expense, though. I enjoyed the thrill of flying, and the fellowship. When it only takes three seconds to destroy a $4,000.00 dollar airplane, that was the end of my flying. I would rather have a brand new car, than a bunch of little flying accidents. Kudos on your airplane video.

32:50 That was the closest-to-destruction of anything we saw in this video for sure. That thing had to have taken 20-25 G's at least in that sudden rotation upward. The camera didn't capture all of it but I was stunned that thing could thrust vector that fast, let alone survive it

Just OUTSTANDING!! Great video shots too! I'm an old RC builder/flier from back in the middish-80's up to about '90 or '91. The RC jet engines were just starting to make their way into the hobby and until then, RC jet builds all used ducted-fan engines. Anyway, I had to reluctantly leave the hobby (S#@^ happens), so I never got a chance to get to that point... That said, I have to say that I don't care if there's an RC plane that can go 450 mph. If it hasn't got landing gear and liquid-fuel engines at the bare minimum, it won't impress me in the slightest. I'll take a 150 mph, liquid fuel plane with gear, lights, great paint job, and all the bells & whistles, over a stripped-down, 450 mph, sheet of aluminum any day! I recently saw a huge F4 Phantom RC with two giant jet engines, (liquid-fuel, of course), that included everything! Is was built in extreme detail and won 1st place awards everywhere it was shown & flown. I mean it had it all; slats, flaps, drogue-chute, speed-brakes, all the lights, drop-tanks, etc., etc. and it was about 3 or 4 feet longer than your beautiful green jet. That F4 even had a pilot and WSO in the seats and they moved their heads in sync with the aircraft's flight operations. The plane had to weigh something like 150 lbs. (or maybe even more than that), but it flew incredibly well! It couldn't go 450 mph but with a build like that, it didn't have to! BTW, would you mind saying about how much your jet set you back? This is amazing. I ride. And grew up with boats and cars and I’m sorry. But nothing almost brings me to tears of excitement than jet engines or heli engines spooling up. Or landing. This is wild. I wish I had one! For all those who never got to be pilots. So fun!!!!

this reminds me so much of the first time i flew an RC plane, everyone sweating bullets. crazy hobby to get into as a kid. awesome it can give thrills to a rad dude that races crazy fast cars.
