  • This is how it all started a couple of years ago. My least favourite job of removing lath and plaster. There are lots of suggested methods and I have tried them all, some work better than others but they are all just as messy! Having the windows open and a breeze really helped but don’t expect the dust to stay in one room!

    OMG what a mess. I do not envy you. Been there, done that. The only good thing about lath is that it makes great kindling for starting fires in a fireplace or backyard bonfire. You accomplished a lot in one weekend. I hope you take it easy during the week.

    Really good video. Contemplating doing something similar in large loft having discovered that its lath and plaster. I have quite a bit of headroom and a ceiling in very good condition and I was thinking that I could just overboard the whole thing with Kingspan/Cellotex. Any idea of the pros and cons of such an approach?

    So Ive been watching your videos for a while now, as we've been needing to rip out our attic rooms to insulate. We'll, I just wanted to say you made me massively underestimate the job at hand 😂 two whole days to strip out two bedrooms and were still not even fully tidied up 😂 the plaster took two hours to take off and the tidy up took bloody ages 😂 thankyou for making me think it'd be an easy job though otherwise I'd have never have wanted to do it 😂

    Great vid thanks! I've got the same problem but would like to avoid ripping out the lath and plaster. I've got a membrane underneath the tiles. What would you recommend is the minimum clearance needed for push up isolation board in between the rafters? Thanks!

    I about to do similar. Does lath and plaster needs to removed? Would it create damp if I just place 100mm insulating boards over it?

    Good work Tim, funny to see the house how it was again - shows how far you have come! Did you get my email the other day?

      Good spot. This is footage from 2 years ago, just picking up where we left off back then, back in sync next week. The house is alot different now, fortunately!

    Is there asbestos in that Lathe and plaster?

    • @cgavin1
      @cgavin1 5 років тому

      In the old lime and gypsum plaster quite possibly. Asbestos or not its full of lots of other nasty stuff that isn't going to help you live to 100 so ALWAYS wear PPE and think seriously about where all the dust if likely to end up if you pulled off skirting boards and the like. Everything in the room has to go to the tip once you start.. so move anything you want to keep. :)

    One of the worst jobs in construction. I fur out and overlay with drywall whenever possible. The cost to do this is astronomical. The debris is hefty.
