I love Dick Cavett. He was always such a great interviewer. Quite comical too. This brings me back to the good old days of late night TV. One of my absolute faves of all time. The Dick Cavett show! ❤

I don't understand the dislike for Carol here - she is just taking what Dick is saying and skewering him a little bit with it, just a bit of banter between two people who know each other a little bit off-screen.

I’m a long time fan of Cavett’s but he didn’t do his homework on this one. Even Carol called him out on repeating his questions from a previous interview.

This is not a bad interview like people seem to say. She's tired and going through some personal issues. And they have good back and forth. So I'm not sure what the issue supposedly is.

I think this was a particularly hard time in Carols personal life. No more show. Audiences didn’t want to see her branch out beyond comedy. Bad press and rumors of alcohol abuse that wasn’t true. Trouble with her teenage daughter, and a pending divorce from Joe Hamilton.

have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were part of the main cast? These are rarities much like these.

The weird studio format makes the interview awkward. Carol's being callous, but in good humor, and Dick is taking the whipping boy stance, but also in good humor. The audience is laughing away, but you can barely hear it. It's like watching a sitcom made with a laugh track, but with the laugh track stripped out.

She seemed very obnoxious to me on many of the interviews I've seen of her.

I see you don't get her sense of humor.... Think Ricky Gervais, as one of her comic heirs.

@@acchaladka Maybe that’s it. For Carol being so famous, I really never watched much of her back in the day. To me, she just seemed really unnecessarily harsh in this interview.

This is not a good interview on her end. She was actually nicer in a lot of her other interviews. I don’t know, she could have been playing off the fact that she & Dick had a brother/sister type of relationship. But at the same time, I didn’t like the questions her was asking.

This was a rough period in her life. She was about to go through a divorce and she was still dealing with daughter Carrie's drug addictions.

She's not funny enough to pull whatever this is off.
