- Music: The Park - Uriah Heep
Indian-Summer/Fall-Images from the Botanical Gardens and Slottsskogen-Park in Gothenburg, Sweden.
For years I took Uriah Heep's "The Park" as just a beautiful song about a beautiful park. Only while working on this little image-show did I realize that the song is in memory of a young man "who died in a needless war". I came to think of a young man who suffered this fate and had a memorial plaque in this very park I was taking my pictures.
David was a young Swede who went to New York to work for a while at a company located high up in the World Trade Center. He did not survive the terror attacks on September 11th 2001.
I dedicate this little image-show to him - as one of the many youngsters whose dreams do not soar any longer since their lives were cut short by needless war and senseless violence.
heep freinds i just lost my second wife ,first to cancer second to kidney failure ...all i got left is memories and music is getting me through .....heep is my lifeline and all my 51 years ...LIFE GOES ON .....KEEP THE FAITH .................XXXX
No group these days are no where near a group as good as uriah heep their music is so original and all are brilliant musicians and a voice like Byron
Very few bands of any era were as good as Uriah Heep.
What an era for REAL music...lyrics, melody, creativity, song writing...
When music was music.........timeless!
This is my whole life
1965 to 1980 will always be the best time of all for music lovers.
Especially the lovers of Uriah heep
Maybe 15-20th century was a period for the best time of music and culture
1963-1988, I think
1963 to 1993 was the best music
After 1993 its sucks

One of my favorite albums from my favorite band in high school, and forever...Ken Hensley written and he played the harpsicord part on an old antique model they found in Germany... haunting and beautiful. No one is making this kind of beauty in modern music these years.
As a young teen w/ little desposible income. To get music. I would scour swapmeet & used record stores. At the swapmeet I found a young hippy couple w/ lots of music for sale. I picked up uriah heeps 1st 3 albums. Uriah heep. Salisbury & look at yourself. I paid a 1.00 each for them what a bargain. Introducing me to the joy of uriah heep music. This was 1973. My major imprint age. When I listen now it reminds me of southern California 1973. A time not to be repeated.
This song makes me shiver with nostalgia, the greatest band from a golden era of music.

Since I rediscovered it here on you tube, I listened to it at least a hundred times in a week.
🥀Amazing Song!🥀👍
Takes me back to early 70s and youth.Beautiful and kind girls I knew and terrible mistakes I did.
What a brilliant harmony and song absolute legends these guys were true musicians
This is the most beautiful antiwar song, without talking much about war, only the last view words. Brilliant.
And we are now on a verge of ww3😢
It was about his brother
Jo narodil se mi prvni syn.pri tehle písni vzniknul mam tri deti.dekuji nashledanou.
The better Child in time, RIP David
The best antiwar song ever.
I haven't listen to this band in years and had forgotten this song. Shame on me. Great song...great band.
"
Vraiment magnifique
These lyrics as a poem are right up there with the best English poets of all time, so sad, so haunting, the futility of war!!! Beautiful song too
Um, no. They aren't too shabby as far as song lyrics go, but a Yeats would reject this even as a first draught. The great poets are on an entirely different level in terms of imagery, prosody and cognitive power.
@@selwynr thanks for your reply, you forgot, “in your opinion”. I think it’s beautiful and poetic, in my opinion, good to chat though.
Cheers. My opinion doesn't matter, it's demonstrable. Have you studied poetry and prosody? Read even a minor poem by Yeats and compare. Opinions are fine, but close textual analysis is something else.
I recommend Alfred Corn's The Poem's Heartbeat, if you want to understand serious poetry. Give it a try. Your mind will be blown by the complexity of great poetry, a fundamentally different, and vastly more complex, art than song lyric writing, in the modern sense.
This song is very unique. It makes me imagine a garden and somehow thinking of a lost memory, a sad but beautiful memory, and at the same time it makes me think of humanity as a whole, I don't know why.
I know this song for about 40 years and it will never stop amazing me. But the best is the mixed organ-guitar solo. This is something extraordinary in the whole rock music.
I still have the lp.Had it for 40 years.
And the vocals? Isn't that nice?
Of course :-)
Hearing the song again and again, I am still amazed how the song is composed. Choir vocals, folk lyrics, jazz or even bebop intersection... and all matching together seamlessly. W-o-w. True masterpiece.
Uriah Heep.♥️
I agree this stands the test of time, and I am sure our Grandchildren can also enjoy this!

so beautiful. Heep most underrated band ever. Byron most underrated vocalist ever. May he rest in peace
Y E A H !!!
yes
@JeduNiso how do you know this? I cannot find anything on the net except that it is written by kensley? perhaps it is SIMILAR to an old song (like so many songs)?
Right, Byron was great, Hensley is a great songwriter and Gary Thain an incredible bass player (he's not playing here tho)
@JeduNiso Are the lyrics also from the original song?
I have listened to Uriah Heep since 1974 when Ken Hensley live 3 miles away from me in St Louis off Olive boulevard.
Saw Uriah Heep my first band live in 1973 Newcastle City hall, have got tickets for Gateshead in Nov 2020 lets hope al lis well, long live the heep
One of the most beautiful songs EVER!
I heard it for the first time as a teenager, did not know the names of the song or the artist and have been searching for it for many years ... thank you for uploading this.
This is really GOOD music!
No wonder, this is a Bolivian Christmas song, called "Birth"", the opposite, what UH is singing.
Ein wunderschönes Stück vom besten Heep-Album. David Byron, einfach bezaubernd...

Постоянно натыкаюсь на подобные комментарии: кто-то пишет, что ничто не превзошло Child In Time, другие пишут про Ticket To The Moon.

david byron ..... best voice ever heard
Ber Tii Berti 89 he was One of the greatest
Ber Tii Berti 89 I totally agree
Absoluut!
I always thought that Deep Purple's Ian Gillen had the best voice, but Byron's is angel like.
68 years old now. Feels like I'm 20... memories... Great band and great music.

Oh...I so LOVE this song...I listened to it endlessly...and all the other Salisbury classics...on the first record player I ever owned. Uriah Heep is such a part of my teen years...sooooo gorgeous.
This song alone assures Heep's place at the top of the Rock Pantheon.
Soulful and beautiful vocal harmonies in this classic song from this great band.
beautiful ballad uriah heep
I had not heard this song for years...Thank you
If Ken Hensley can do falsetto like that he should
be one of the most underrated musicians of all time.
He is.
Such a beautiful song with brilliant, magical lyrics that transpose you to mythical realms.. and yet it is almost forgotten. This is beyond me.
still one of the best rock band s where there music still stands way above most music made today
Never know this before, amazing lyrics music and pics. Fill Of harmonie...., thankyou so much for this incredible imoressions.
Cry tears when I listen. Since the 70's.
i guess if the melody repeats forever i wont be bored of listening it
Perfect images! Reminds me of my world of 13 or 14 yrs old sneaking out to parks, cemeteries, smoking weed but taking in nature without even knowing I was feeding my soul! The solemnity of some of Uriah Heep and a few other bands maybe Deep Purple... Takes me back... Thanks for the post!
Beautiful pics for a beautiful song (that almost always makes me cry)
When music was music...............so sad!💞

Let me walk a while alone
Among the sacred rocks and stones
Let me look in vain belief
Upon the beauty of each leaf
There is green in every blade
The tree tops lean providing shade
Maypoles spin in happy sound
All nature's strength around
And there's a horse that feels no pain
Its iron strength to take the strain
Children rock it to and fro
And gaily drink its color glow
Above, the sky, devoid of cloud
Thinks not to cast a thunder shroud
Upon this place so full of joy
A field of gold of loves employ
So, why my heavy heart, you say?
When tears would stain, the sights so gay
My brother's dreams, once here did soar
Until he died at the hand of needless war
Thank you for writing the lyrics 🙏

The best antiwar song ever.
Thank you ofr the lyrics. One of my all-time favorite songs from my favorite band in high school (saw the original line-up several times). I never was sure of a few of the words.
I'm now 50. Got into them arounfd 16. Definitely up there with all other 70s hard rock bands. The guitar, drums, keyboards, and vocals. Lyrics as well. Byron had such a range. I like the early albums, very emotional songs.
