TX specifically pulled away from other power companies to get away from government regulations. They are sh!tty because they are now an unregulated monopoly in TX.
@Ben David was wondering about the epoxy as well. tire valve stems i have no idea if they hold up against gas but you wont get a go ahead from manufacture on that, definately a personal decision and no one to blame if your mod fails. but not saying I wouldnt do it either
The same assholes that came up with this shit came up with auto start/stop on new cars (which I pretty easily disabled too!). This crap has gvmnt written all over it. Thank you for this, Aunt Barbara adores you!
I have spilled more gas with them foolish new cans than 50 years prior with the old functional cans. Your only choice now is to modify them as shown here.
I tried to put my vent cap close enough to the handle so I can plug it with my thumb is a pour the gas. That way I can regulate how fast the gas comes out of the tank. That is not always possible
Great job! The sealant you used seems like it would make easy replacement of the vent if the lanyard breaks. I've thought of cutting the lanyard in the middle and maybe adding some thick monofilament crimped. It's an idea that needs development.
How's the can mods holding up? I have an old can already that I already added the yellow cap. all the cans suck/leak so this looks to be the best cheapest way.
Good hack, but your thinking on the vent placement needs work. The highest point when the can is level is where you drilled. But....... The highest point when you are actually pouring the gas is at the back of the can. :)
No plastic can meets any NFPA or OSHA specifications. When the pumps say "Approved Containers Only", what do they mean? Any can that has "Approved" printed on it?
BEST ANSWER. I keep a funnel and a siphon hose with my cans. A set in the garage, and a set in the tool box of my pickup truck. It might be a little slower, but I don't have to fumble around with all that added on non-functional bullshit. Though I do like the mods to the can he discusses.
How there was never a class action suit, how someone has not been run out of the EPA for this, I do not know. Shame on the companies that make this. Dispensing gas or filling it, it is wasteful and dangerous. Dear EPA, how many gallons of gas have been spilled with the new "safe" design? How many people have been douse and how many have horrible burn scars. Americans used to be smarter than this!
I have this style spout with the green latch which toggles the valve open. I filled the can, and when it got hot the expansion pushed the valve open even though the latch was closed. You'd think not a problem, just let the air escape and the pressure is released. Nope, it is not air that comes out. The spout inverted inside the can siphoned out over a cup of gas before I saw it. That little valve swivels on two plastic nibs the size of a pencil lead. It is a huge safety hazard. I wanted to replace the whole thing with the old style pull-out nozzle and a solid screw-down lid, but the threads don't match.
Every time that they upgrade these gas cans they are harder to use and they spill more fuel. Leave it to the EPA to make sure that the gas cans are more of an environmental hazard !!
Yes sometimes music needs to be less instead of more. Really distracting unless it’s turned down and it’s not wannabe disco . But I couldn’t have agreed more. EPA is ridiculous. We’re once again paying taxes for the government to work against us. If anything, I’d prefer states figure out containers and that would be 50 ways of making them and of course the best ones would be duplicated. Great video as usual
You didn't show how you took it apart. Mine is similar, and it sure would have been useful to see what you did when the spout was out of camera range. Not very useful, as a result of failing to show this.
I have to admit, I felt the same way - it would have been REALLY helpful to see how to get the spout apart, etc. As it turned out, since I was sure - because of the video - that it could be done, I figured it out. So, for me, the video was useful (and quite entertaining), as it gave me that little nuidge to go ahead and fix 4 problem gas containers, which i might have otherwise thrown away.
@@williamsawyer3635 Do you have a hint as to how you got it apart? I was going to saw/cut off the spring-loaded locking knob, using a Dremel tool, but I wasn't sure I'd be able to get apart the spring loaded on/off mechanism that is what makes this thing so horrible. So, even though I only paid $9.99 for my 5-gallon can when Costco had an amazing sale a few years back, I paid another $9.00 for a spout. I'll keep the useless spout on the can during storage and then use the after-market spout when pouring.
@@johnmeyer77 Sure. Brute force is probably the nest answer. :) You do NOT need to saw / cut anything, if your spout is the same as the one shown in the video. I took a slotted screwdriver and a pair of pliers and pulled out the round plastic piece / gasket at the lower end of the spout (the 'bottom' end). I wasn't worried about somehow breaking something on the interior. Once that part had been (forcecibly) removed, I was able to pull the spout apart, just as shown on the video. If I can find the part, I will see if I can add it to a post as a picture. Frankly, once I had done it, the video made perfect sense.

Are those hacks legal? Right or wrong you are defeating the mechanism deemed legal. What if there is something you haven't considered? Do you realize you are admitting to modifying a gas can in a way that may or may not be dangerous in a certain situation you have not considered? Anyone who has an accident is going to be very upset.
Do you even realize how stupid your post is? Gasoline is dangerous. There is no getting around that. Do stupid things, win stupid prizes. That's how life works.
Your choice is to not buy new cans. I can avoid the spout by buying a flex spout with a breather. Two problems solved with one spout. a modified gas can is illegal and gas station have the right to deny filling your fuel cans.
EPA failed to take into consideration that people will defeat these new cans and accomplish nothing. It seems that these people aka P.I.G.S. never think things through when implementing new policies or regulations. P.I.G.S. i.e People/Persons in Government Services
I never understood the weird compulsion people have to do this. Music can enhance a video IF IT'S USED PROPERLY. If it's just 'there' to be 'there..... naw. Lose the soundtrack.

😂😂😂
TX specifically pulled away from other power companies to get away from government regulations. They are sh!tty because they are now an unregulated monopoly in TX.
Well in their defense there is a president who sniffs children that stopped 50% of all oil drilling in the state and wanted to rely on solar energy.
They should force the EPA and the Government to use these cans first.
Why the loud music?
Very Annoying... You should post in Music Wannabees!!
the part you drill toward your hand direction pulled my heart out of my throat, thanks my friend!
For my vents, I just used some tire valve stems and took out the valve. Kind of a pain feeding through the can, but I like them. Thanks for the video

What kind of 2 part epoxy did you use? As it has to not be affetced by gasoline.

I have a tire air vent on my diesel jugs works good.
This is a really useful video. Thank you, bro.
What size is the plastic tubing you use?
I have a regular pull out spout like the blitz with vent. Rarely spill or over fill. Also a larger can with the EPA crap. Always spill
How's the can mods holding up? I have an old can already that I already added the yellow cap. all the cans suck/leak so this looks to be the best cheapest way.
Get metal NATO gans online that dont have any of this bullshit. They'll last forever.
Thank you!
How to fix a crappy EPA gas can: undo what the EPA did and make the can like it used to be!
You didn't show how you took the nozzle apart.
Excellent Fix....and Funny 😆

These gas can manufacturers laughed all the way to the bank!!!
And some EPA dude got a hell of a kickback for this!
highest place on the can while pouring. I put it on the front of the handle area and if I tilt to much it comes out the vent.
Just leave that one alone and put another one on the backside that you'll actually use and NOT spill gas while pouring.
I use a funnel.

No spout. Just pour. Easy on the zero-turn, requires patience on the push mower.
I just put a funnel machines gas tank. Take the tank fill cap/nozzle off and pour fuel through the funnel into the tank.
Check out VP racing cans. Y'all may like those. No mods needed. Tractor supply has one similar to VP racing cans.
This songs a banger
Didnt know Tony Stark had youtube channel
That was a joke for my daughter!! Thanks for the nod!!
Buy an after market spout and save all that problem and you get the vent to go with.
Never spills a drop with the old ones,,the new ones,,,Yeah, I STILL smell like Gas from all the gas on the floor, over the tank, etc

you spill more with the epa can than the old ones yes gov at its best yea let them run healthcare

It's what you get when idiot bureaucrats are put in charge of things they know little or nothing about.
mmmmmm...Whataburger
