SOLD. I was scrolling through a bunch of games on PSN and this game really caught my attention. The Max Payne series is my favorite, so this looked like it would really fill that void left from games like Hotline Miami, Wet, and some aspects of Stranglehold. A directors films styles I'd love to see in video game form would absolutely positively have to be David Cronenberg.
Top down Stranglehold (which was the sequel to John Woo's Hard Boiled in game form)! I wish Ubisoft would do a sequel or at least an remake. Incredibly underrated.
Tough question. I'm tempted to say Alejandro Jodorowsky - bring us El Topo the Game! But seriously, give full creative control of a game to Ryuhei Kitamura (of Versus and Godzilla: Final Wars fame). For gamers he is best known for directing the cut-scenes of Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes - and his filmography looks every bit as nuts.
Good review for a fantastic game. I have had it with AAA games. Screw Ray Tracing and the ridiculously priced gfx cards( I guess they do have their fan base) but for me Indie is where the fun is. This game reminds me another similar stylish top down action game called Mr. Shifty.
There was another game with this hotline miami style at PAX where you're a cop and you make arrests. I'd play more in this style. Alex Garland could inspire some good horror/creepy slow burn into action action style games. Gareth Evans style beat em ups. Steven Soderbergh style heist/investigation style games. I could go either contagion investigating an outbreak or ocean's heist. Don Bluth had dragon's lair and space ace. Brain Dead 13 was inspired by those but now maybe they won't be so repetitive and kill you so much.
Sony should team up with Guy Ritchie to reboot The Getaway franchise. There's a lot there they could work with, and pretty much everybody loves Guy's early London mob stuff. In fact, that's pretty much the only thing I love from him. I think there's a lot there to work with, especially since Grand Theft Auto seems unwilling to revisit the UK.
id love an rpg based off guillermo del toros' mimic, where youre fighting giant intelligent roaches in the new york sewers or a fighting game based off kung fu hustle
I saw this on stream, even with your good review, might still hold off. It does fun, but maybe not 100% of a Jen Type of game if you know what I mean. As for your question, being a horror fan, might have to go with Wes Craven, or John Carpenter, I know they have a game for The Thing, but let's be honest, could have been FAR better. Or another director style that could be fun is Dario Argento, a survival horror in the style of the original Suspiria, now we're talking a Jen Type of game.
I really want this game. May have to break with my "only deep sales from now on!" promise to myself (and wallet). Qotd: This is a pretty tough one. I guess I'll go with one of my favorite directors, Darren Aronofsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream, The Wrestler, Black Swan, a few others but those are the ones with the style I'm thinking of). What would a game in his style look like? I have no idea. But it would be dark, psychedelic and sad. Maybe something like what Tim Schafer would make, but with a tragic ending, stylized drug use, nudity and a story line that makes the ESRB recoil in disgust.
Oh hard question.. every part of me wants to George Romero but I don't know a small part of me says that's already covered with the resident evil and on some level the dead rising games. Soooo maybe Robert Rodriguez I love his el mariachi trilogy and his cheese yet still fun stuff like Planet Terror and machete
I would love to see a game set in that El Mariachi universe. I recall the game Wet (with Eliza Dushku) having a Rodriguez vibe, but it's been a really long time since I've played it. That's a great pick.
@@DefunctGames oh yeah I remember WET yeah it really did. I dug it I would like to see more like that. And a game set in the el mariachi universe would be sick.
Games in the Uwe Boll style already exist, here I'll list them for you: ET The Extra Terrestrial for Atari Superman 64 for N64 Bubsy 3D for the PSX Street Fighter: The Movie: The Video game for PSX Drake of the 99 Dragons for Xbox He is pretty well represented, I think.
Paul Thomas Anderson. I o not know what genre, but a game with that amazing interest in its characters and intertwined narratives. Or a Guillermo Del Toro monster action game like hellboy 2 or Pacific. Rim. He almost had his horror game... Hope it happens in the future.

On sale now seems worth it.
@@michaelschneider1365 Thankyou so much for telling ! 65% off £5.42, bargain!
@@michaelschneider1365 ah even cheaper on ps4... £4.89. Brilliant!
@@hazy33 yup. I’m probably buying it on Sunday for Chanukah
@@michaelschneider1365 Cool. Didn't know Chanukah was so i looked it up. You've increased my knowledge :-)
Park Chan-wook... His cut scenes into action would be phenomenal...
Brian Taylor: a punk rock, chaotic and incredible fast action game with crazy ideas
Great review! Definitely going to pick this up when it hits north American PS4 on the 31st.

I reviewed Mr. Shifty a year or so ago and enjoyed it. A fun mash-up of genres.
Thanks!!!immediately bought!

Awesome man this is like $3 on PSN right now. Think I'll give it a try
Great price for a great game.
I think either Takeshi Kitano, Guy Ritchie or Martin Scorsese might make an interesting game concept

James Cameron because we've never got a truly great Terminator game.
Robert Rodríguez!
What’s not to like? Very tempted
It's still one of the best shooters in recent years.

A Darren Aronofsky game would be a first-person shooter where the camera is pointed directly at your face as you run.

I think I liked Wet more than most people. I gave it a B+ back in 2009. I should revisit it one of these days.
Yeah same here I replayed it like a yr ago and still enjoyed it. But being honest I don't have to many friends that liked it let alone heard of it.

... guy ritchie. I think there already is a game based on London gangsters but don't remember if it was any good.
Are you thinking of The Getaway series on the PlayStation 2? (It later spawned a pretty terrible PSP game called Gangs of London.)
@@DefunctGames I think gangs of London is the one. A game resembling mr Ritchie's movies could be interesting ...
