Smokes are most useful for me to feint an attack. I often throw them the opposite direction I plan on coming in from and will often be successful in getting the flanks of defenders this way. I see too much people throwing smoke and pushing through it and just getting mowed down. I have even used the feint move with smoke to win a 1 on 1 where the other player has the advantage.
Even though I have never played this particular game, your tactics in these videos have helped me alot in other games! I don't have an Xbox or a laptop anymore unfortunately, but I do play games on my phone, such as call of duty mobile, PUBG mobile, and Badlanders. And these tactics have been very helpful.
Sorry but in terms of medical and smoke. It’s redundant more so because this game still won’t allow for us to drag casualties out of hot spots. Smoke is useless to help cover a casualty point because they will just suppress the shit out of the smoke grenade anyway
There is a lot to read about usage of smoke in WWII tactics articles. A short summary is : it always benefit the attackers. (Unless some particular instances)
because cou can't throw a smoke far enough to be efficient. And at that it would need a much greater wideness to bring the same effect in obscuring sight
You forgot to say that Russian smokes always extend as a big cloud, while USA smokes always go along the ground and cover more distance from left to right but much less distance from the ground up. Always throw USA smokes slightly left of what you want to cover, as they seem to always go left to right from the position you threw them to. It's sometimes finicky but mostly they're not affected by "wind" (there is no wing in Squad).
It should also be mentioned that smoke grenades spark and start to smoke as they fly making them super obvious. I see too many people throw smokes then stand up right from where they threw it and of course the enemy saw the grenade fly through the air and traced it back to the thrower's location and aimed there ready for them to push.
It will work if you have a slow paced solid front action. Many servers have people randomly running here and there, and it's really hard to estimate where the enemy squad is. It's not an issue on the big maps, but really challenging in close combat situations. Thanks for the another video on tactics though. I hope they'll get more views.
Seriously need more videos like this for newbs like me 😅 only played like 4 games and I love it but small things like this are something I honestly don't think about... Thanks for the info
I feel like your first point of never throwing smokes near bodies is a bit short sighted. Yeah if you're in a scenario where there's one point of contact and you know exactly where the enemy is, sure, throw the smoke at the enemy, but a scenario like that rarely happens. I play alot of medic and generally I find that 9 times out of 10 you're in a situation where you either don't know where the enemy is or the enemy is too spread out to properly cover with 1 or 2 smoke grenades and in this situation you have no choice but to throw smoke only a few feet in front of the body. By throwing smoke closer to a single group of enemies yeah you can obscure more of their sight line but in an actual scenario there will be multiple sight lines you need to cover, in which case you need to keep the smoke close to the point where those sight lines converge, which is you.
In fact, as medic, if I would have to deploy smoke in order to retrieve a teammate while engaged, I'm 2/3s on the way to call 'give up". Unless there are multible friendlies I can retrieve in one go or it's high value (SL, another medic), it's often too time intensive to pop smoke (unless someone does it beforehand). And there's always the problem that they're waiting for you you to pop and than putting rounds through that. The other problem is that friendlies call for the medic but don't include direction to enemy or if they're clear (maybe they crawled back and bled out, or got a under-rifle grenade on the noggins) or hot. The worst that can happen is 3 medics dying on the same spot while trying to revive each other. °^°
...the problem with that flank scenario is , That it shouldn't be allowed in the first place ,but 75% of the time I open a map in a match the entire team is a straight line attack or are all in the space of one square .After the debuff of rush mechanic , the second best tactic is to just flank one square away and you will maybe meet 1 enemy-Who happens to use the same tactic.Short answer-If people didn't suck the smoke wouldn't matter, but that won't change
The addition of wind effect would be interesting... I've seen people pop smoke before without taking wind into consideration and just smoking themselves out on exercises :D Wind would make it even harder though...
I used to throw “distraction” smokes, whereI’d underhand a smoke as far away from me as I could, in an effort to draw attention away from me. I stopped because I realized, when OpFor shoots my team mate, he knows where homeboy died at, and a random smoke grenade far to the left would be pointless if I’m just gonna go to where my teammate died anyways.
“I see too many smoke grenades thrown inappropriately and it’s driving me nuts”. My dumbass throwing smoke on the radio to show the enemy exactly where to shoot at.
so true! better have them all spawned in random locations by an "spawn where nobody looks" algorithym. Or at main. Loved that walking in early alpha. To my mind, they found quite a balanced solution to the reaction time to get back into battle.
God, I so need to get a good computer so I can play games like squad and ARMA 3. I truly love playing games or with people where emphasis is put on proper tactics.
OMFG I've been saying this in Arma 3 for so long and it's FUCKING ANNOYING AF! Newb players throwing smoke on wounded and it makes want to teamkill everyone who does it! THANK YOU FOR THIS!!
naughtybear420 this comment doesnt contain much substance. the fact that most people don't know certain specific things like the price of the tea in china as an example, isnt "sad" or anything it just means you are privy to that information and other people aren't.
The same can be said about practically any education ever. So no, it's not sad at all, some things might "come easy" for one but not for the other, and most things actually take a lot of time, experience and effort to learn.
This is common sense... I mean c'mon, throw your smokes as far out as possible so you see more instead of smoking yourself and therefore not seeing? No shit sherlock... I like your gameplay vids this but this is absurd haha

This explanation changed what I thought about smoke grenades. Great format. I'd love to see more videos like this one.

Welp we can now!
Only took two years lol
darkness2156 hahahahah
These videos are very informative and they step my squad strats up to a new level. Thank you
truth be getting told That has a lot of good shit, thank you!

@@RDaneelOliwav that's what smoke grenades and mortar rounds are for
Smokology session with Karma.

M18's saved my life in Kabul.
How did you use them?
If it's okay for you, could you tell us more about it?
In fact, as medic, if I would have to deploy smoke in order to retrieve a teammate while engaged, I'm 2/3s on the way to call 'give up". If you do smoke directly in front of you you should have a way out of the area so you can use their advance against them
never forget, dont throw both of your smokes in the exact same fucking spot
Thanks for addressing this...I've seen too many people just drop smoke right in front of us. It's so ridiculous.
Any chance of a squad lead tutorial video, most games i go into no one wants to SL so i may as well learn.
Just starting to play Squad. Love these vids. They help me a lot!
truth be getting told thanks man
But what do you do as a medic if you have no idea where the guy got killed from ?
Which is 90% of the cases
you get to choose, may save that poor mate and risk that your squad gets flanked or let him die and may advance toward the goal
...the problem with that flank scenario is , That it shouldn't be allowed in the first place ,but 75% of the time I open a map in a match the entire team is a straight line attack or are all in the space of one square .After the debuff of rush mechanic , the second best tactic is to just flank one square away and you will maybe meet 1 enemy-Who happens to use the same tactic.Short answer-If people didn't suck the smoke wouldn't matter, but that won't change
truth be getting told this is a great meter to go by. Very well said dude
AFAIK this is actually a planned thing for the future of Squad
Thanks for those smoke tipd

I'm guilty of dropping smoke on a body to drag. Now I know better, thanks
Bro your videos are so awesome 👌
so many random tossed smokes
I dont know what Squad is but this video was super helpful for me playin Battlefield
“I see too many smoke grenades thrown inappropriately and it’s driving me nuts”. My dumbass throwing smoke on the radio to show the enemy exactly where to shoot at.
Well you got no choice but to throw smoke on the casualty if its a valley fight, and the enemy is on the opposite hillside.
I find smoke most valuable if you are trapped and decide to just pop smoke and retreat
Would love one of these in respect to choosing areas and lines of fire to set up bipods on.
What do smokes matter when you can just respawn on the everlasting, wave inducing rally points?
so true! better have them all spawned in random locations by an "spawn where nobody looks" algorithym. Or at main. Loved that walking in early alpha. To my mind, they found quite a balanced solution to the reaction time to get back into battle.

squad is pretty well optimised now
No uses proper tactics in squad in Public games
doc phibz ama
doc phibz iiii
That is if you know where the enemy fire comes from
Does squadopps play competitive Squad? or do you just play against each other?
My friend sent me this video thinking it was about PUBG, but I guess it applies there too haha
stream today?
That's why people throw smoke at the enemy in battlefield 4
And don't report this plz
These videos would be so much better if you could show some of the scenarios in action.
smoking's bad m'kayyyy?!
OMFG I've been saying this in Arma 3 for so long and it's FUCKING ANNOYING AF!
Newb players throwing smoke on wounded and it makes want to teamkill everyone who does it!
THANK YOU FOR THIS!!
OSSUU!!
You should also do how NOT to use smoke grenades
This is a good video but it’s just you saying the same thing over and over again
Maybe this way at least a few people get the point though
so XCOM was lying to me the entire time...
its pretty sad you have to make a vid on this...

indeed. its like making a video about why people should not check if a gun fires while pointing it at their own head....
I tell REE ever time I get smoked
This is common sense... I mean c'mon, throw your smokes as far out as possible so you see more instead of smoking yourself and therefore not seeing? No shit sherlock... I like your gameplay vids this but this is absurd haha
second !
