@andries9493 i think he's just using an overdriven amp and rolling off the volume during the verses. it's a clean-y sound with just enough grit to make that awesomeness. the solo sounds like somewhere a big muff or a Boss DS-2 (Turbo Distortion). Hope that helps. :)

Play the 7th fret on the D string (index), 9th fret on the D (ring) pull off back to the 7th. Then play the 9th fret on the A (ring), and go into the A chord 57765x. If I confused you, I'm sure there are tons of vids showing this Hendrix-y technique.
@andries9493 also--if u don't have an amazing amp (like most of us) they make overdrive pedals to emulate that sort of sound. I use a "Fulltone Full-Drive" for my overdrive tone, but you can get a $60ish Boss OD-1 pedal (it's bright yellow) which can give you some pretty cool OD sounds.
yea it was pretty damn good, i agree. it had more publicity than their mother's milk tour though, but i really thought the mother's milk tour was their best. i really enjoyed it. any live show from 88-91 right after BSSM but before john started gettin' pissed was really gold. mind blowing stuff from such a young john.
