  • After 20h of Tetris grinding, I've finally caught every Pokemon in Pokemon Tetris (a.k.a. Pokemon Shock Tetris in Japan), one of the rarest and best games for Pokemon Mini!
Since the most comprehensive FAQ available for this game seems to be its own manual, I had to figure out spawn patterns and develop strategies by own hand. Luck plays a big part in this game (it's Tetris after all), but not to an extreme extent, which made this game very interesting.
There are ways to make uncatched monsters spawn with a 100% rate by getting a 5-liner. Different difficulties decide which "rareness group" will be available.
I feel kind of sorry for the guy who composed the credits theme for a game that requires hours of Tetris grinding to complete. :3

I have to ask so much about capturing all 249 Pokemon in this to see the credits and such, since you are the only person with video evidence that shows the game's credit sequence and the full pokedex, but I do not know to make this simple.
Do you have to play Master difficulty and hope to god you can get good enough skill & luck to form two quick 5-line clears to capture some legendary Pokemon, especially in 20 Lines where you get no breathing room?
As a followup, how do you survive in Master/Hyper difficulty while trying to capture quick-fleeing Pokemon at the same time? Even with block mirroring, the game just hammers you however it likes, even with a clean stack.

Memory has unfortunately faded since this was many years ago, but the one thing that helped me the most was the realization that you probably have read from the description: There are ways to make uncaught monsters spawn with a 100% rate by getting a 5-line. A 4-line after that should be enough for a catch I think, with the 5-line only being crucial for spawning. Different difficulties decide which "rareness group" will be available. That's basically why Ursaring was the last one, since I only grinded the hardest difficulty at first believing it would net me everything.
About the legendaries, I remember it involved a lot of luck, building a nice clean wall and hope that you get lucky with the pieces. If I recall correctly, the rare ones stay for two placements, granting you two chances of spawning a line, but I could be wrong. Also, I don't think you have to "force spawn" an unknown monster with a 5-liner, since they could show up at random, but it made the chances so much higher anyway being able to control when they show up and then hope for a quick catch, rather than just hope that they spawn naturally.
I don't remember how hard you can make the game, but the important setting is the main difficulty. There may be other settings that could make the game harder, but I don't think it was necessary. Experiment and see if a force spawn grants you anything new.
The best skill is simply becoming good at this form of Tetris (which should come with playing) so that you consistently are able to build large walls and then leave the rest to luck with the long pieces. Acquiring this setup multiple times will eventually tip the scales in your favor.
I appreciate the dedication, and good luck!
