    Today we're going to be explaining HOW and WHY the genius External Toggle mechanism from Grant & Gavin Hawk works. This is easily one of the weirdest knives ever made, and a great example of why the Hawks are renowned as mechanical wizards!

    I have a QuarterMaster General Lee. It's absolutely amazing and a fantastic piece to the collection.
    RIP Grant

      I definitely regret not picking one of those up when they were first discontinued and marked down a whole bunch. It's not an aesthetic that I normally go for in knives, but on a super mechanical knife like this, it's kinda perfect!
      And indeed -- RIP!

      @@KnifeNerdery The General Lee is a more refined version, and once you get used to it, you can open and close it one handed.

    Yikes! I would love to see a detailed review of the Rob Johnsons Cypress! My fovorite gents knife in my collection and a great frontflipper!

      I've yet to handle anything from Rob Johnsons, but I know a few folks who have one. Glad to hear you love it! How easily can you access the opening hole? I've always wondered. I *almost* got in on their Juniper model when it was still in production -- love the shape overall!

      Everything from the Hawks is in demand these days, but you can definitely still find these on eBay and the like. They go for well above their relatively modest MSRP these days, but you can find a deal every now and then!

    My little brother purchased this knife for me years ago. He passed away back in 2014, so aside from it being one of the coolest additions in my collection, it’s also the most sentimental. I love this thing.

      I'm sorry to hear about your brother, but that is indeed a really neat and sentimental memento to have from him!

    That is freaking cool! Now I want to see that as a Serge/Hawk collab even though it would be painful on the wallet 😂

    • @KnifeNerdery
      @KnifeNerdery  6 місяців тому +2

      Omg, right? I am very fortunate to have snagged a Rook in their first drop, but my wallet is certainly lighter for it. (Serge said he might have some extra Hawk Clips for folks like me at Blade this week! With how Hawk-y the Rook is, I definitely think it needs one of those new Hawk Clips he made!)

    I forgot I owned this knife but can’t remember what happened to it. Bought it in 2005 for $59.95. Thanks for sharing.

    my local gun dealer still has one of these in stock, always tempted me but he's charging 250 bucks for it which is just insane lol.

    • @KnifeNerdery
      @KnifeNerdery  6 місяців тому +1

      Oh wow, they have one still just sitting on a shelf?? But yeah, that's literally what I paid for this one after shipping from Germany. It was $59.95 MSRP, so it definitely hurt, but I've wanted one so bad for nearly two decades, and finding them in NOS condition is very rare. But yes, I'm kind of insane! 😅😜 I distinctly remember when I almost bought one for $30 on eBay in the mid 2000s and didn't pull the trigger 'cause "Am I really gonna pay $30 for a gimmicky knife?" 🤦🏼‍♂️

      yeah, they had all sorts of older knives, even bought a spyderco dodo for 200 and an og slysz bowie for 300 (black friday sale😂).
      their prices are very strange, either way too high or crazy low.
      bought whole lot of other spydies and older us kershaws too and was even able to snag a benchmade skirmish.
      meanwhile other peeps have stumbled upon that place and 90% of the good stuff is gone.
      didn't know this kershaw is so expensive in other places too though😅
      cheers!

    Great video! I have a quick question, what’s a good price for one of these nowadays?

    • @KnifeNerdery
      @KnifeNerdery  4 місяці тому +1

      Glad you liked the video! It's not hard to come by one of these on eBay these days, but the price will vary a lot depending on the condition and whether or not it has the original packaging and whatnot. They run anywhere from $100 for a knife-only user to $350+ for a NIB. I think I paid $250 for mine NIB and considered that a good deal.
      www.ebay.com/itm/286031006377
      There's a knife-only listing that looks to be in good condition sitting at $76 right now with 1.5 days left -- if you're lucky, it might end on the low end!

    What was the steel they used for that one of a kind knife?

    • @KnifeNerdery

      The E.T. is in Sandvik 13C26, which Kershaw used a lot back in the mid-2000s.
