Seasons 1-3 of The Last Kingdom were phenomenal. Alfred's absence and his dynamic love/hate relationship with Uthred was a void that could never be filled in the latter seasons. I honestly feel this was mainly down to David Dawson's fantastic performance as Alfred, the guy has got some real screen presence and I can't imagine anybody else in that role. He really captured what Alfred would have been like in my minds eye. My favourite episode was when both Alfred and Uthred met for the very last time. The cinematography of Alfred stepping out of the shadows while Uthred was reading the parchments was beautifully done.

One of the most satisfying deaths in the whole series. :)
