The medium isn't adequate for all hair. I'm an old school waver and we placed hard our medium brushes in stove heated water, back in late 70s and early 80s, to soften. I'm still spinning five decades later , as the result of being lucky and not losing my hair. I still reap the best rewards from a soft brush. A medium or hard does not work as well with my texture. I'm not alone. In the late 70s, early 80s, nobody used a hard brush. I've been spinning, since yrs if age. Stockings cut to make stocking caps, was the method for compression, at that time. Nobody used a medium or hard brush. However, back then, hair texture was highly recognized as the determining factor, as the success of your waves. The guys with the ideal textured, were primarily the wavers. No method competes with textures that are ideal for waving. Such waves with ideal textures are more luxurious and not the militant forced, at all cost, multitude of baby waves, less ideal textures are mercilessly trained to create. What they now call forks today, were celebrated as distinguishable traits of an individuals wave pattern. It's what separated us. Anyway, that's my two cents..lo
Even back in the 90s it was only one of two wave brushes in the hair store and we used to put them on the stove to your likeness and use the stocking cap
Mannnnnn, I didn’t think I’d ever see a comment like this. I agree with everything you said! I was a waver back in the early til mid 90s and this was the method. A .75 cent pack of knee highs or $1 pack of stockings was for compression. If you had a nice grade of hair then it didn’t take much effort to spin, but those “created” waves would be tiny and somewhat dry looking lol. No fifty different special patterned brusheswere used back then…
I've been doing this backwards all my life. Was told the hard brush is the brush to get you set up and the soft brush is used to refine the waves once you're already spinning
I only have a soft and hard brush. I'm 2 weeks in and the hard brush is painful af on my scalp. I obviously got ahead of myself... Must get medium brush immediately.
@@Richrrealm I started seeing them slightly 3 weeks and defined in 5 weeks It all depends on how much u brush and your wash and dry technique My hair also trained quickly
@@Richrrealm what I did was brush constantly and wear my durag when I slept And washed my hair once a week with the wash and dry method And when you get a haircut tell them you want waves and they need to cut with the grain

Yes!

What’s the purpose of combing up the waves?
Breaks any forks in the hair (waves that aren’t straight) and deepens the waves making them look more defined.
