I was lucky enough to fly with Court Line 1972/73 to Ibiza, & as it was my 1st time flying i can remember the name Halcyon on the way up the stairs boarding this fabulous aircraft.
beautiful machine right there!!! There will never be another like the L-1011. The dual anti-collision lights are awesome, the way they glow on/off instead of blink like all other planes do is unmatched!!! Looks awesome at night!
Sumptuous - this could be one of the most fascinating and absolutely delightful films I've seen in years. It is tidbits like this that are sheer glory to see.
Graham - I have your book for many years and enjoyed it a lot. In the inside covers you have some details taken from a Lockheed drawing showing the Court colour scheme for the L-1011. I wonder whether I could obtain the same (full) drawing from somewhere? I'm modelling "Halcyon Days" and would love to get proper colour references for it. Can you help at all?
love this graham tyvm. went on courtline to majorca in the early 70s. not tristar though. been on tristars a few times though since caledonian was one. do you know the name of the music in the last few mins of the video? regards.
Does anyone have the full colour scheme because when they expanded to fly from Middleton St George/Teesside Airport they had Green, Pink and I remember a Yellow not that Peach one.
All those efforts into the programme and still Lockheed failed, mainly because of Rolls Royce's bankruptcy, to produce the L1011-8 in time to compete with the DC-10-30. A real pity!
Very nice. Thanks for sharing. And now for the icing on the cake: we have a full Court Line L-1011 colour promo brochure, in PDF format, available for your viewing pleasure on our site, Airlinercutaways.com. This document shows the original interior arrangement as installed by the factory. Enjoy!
The L-1011 was world's ahead of the D.C.-10 or 747, I don't find any of the commentary all that "interesting" or especially American. By today's standards the film is a bit dated, however the background of required FAA test sequences is not much different from the 747-8 films on UA-cam. If you're trying to ridicule Americans, we may go with the Germans next time Europe stages a war.
Eye of the beholder and all that. As an 11-year old in 1973 seeing those colourful TriStars and BAC 1-11s coming out of Luton over my house was frickin' awesome! Loved the planes, colours, smoke, noise and all.
Remember these Court line L1011 Tristars at Luton parked up after Clarkson's collapse. They dwarfed every other jet there. A very clear memory from a once young lad.
Thank you for sharing this with us. I have been several times at the factory in Palmdale. This was the most modern and safest aircraft at this time.

What became of this airline I love the L 1011👍
+Regina Floyd They went bust with Clarksons who owned them.

I remember Clarksons, and the hideous colour of the Court Line 1011s. Easily the ugliest paint scheme ever designed for a commercial aircraft!
fingerhorn4 Ugly is GOOD just ask Southwest Airlines and their older paint scheme, khaki, mustard and orange.
