I live in NYC and I can confirm all this is an understatement of how bad the city has become. Personally I’ve had my iPhone snatched right out of my hand while walking home from the subway after work, I’ve been attacked for absolutely no reason and even have had a person tell me to empty my pockets while he had a razor in his hand but luckily NYPD drove by at the perfect moment. This city SUCKS!!

My husband and I moved out of NYC after 47 and 48 years of living there (all our lives), we were done the second I was attacked 2x while pregnant at 44 and planned our escape. It took a couple of years, but we left 2 years ago, and we have NEVER been so happy. We kick ourselves every day and ask why we didn't leave sooner. Not only that, but we actually have representation in our local and state elected officials for the first time in a very long time. It feels amazing.

I live in a red state. The other day I accidentally left a bag of groceries in my buggy , when I realized what I did I called the store and they told me that another customer found my bag and took it to customer service. There is a difference in how we raised our children and how we treat others.
Florida here… my friend just left her purse and wallet in a grocery cart… it was turned in by a customer. We recently traveled through Alabama and Mississippi and were treated with nothing but politeness throughout every stop. Every fast food, every gas station, every restaurant and every hotel we stayed in were all very kind and accommodating. Red states don’t have this crap in smaller cities. It’s the Dem ran larger cities which encourage this delinquent behavior! Our leaders in Florida tell us to “shoot them” and do it right so as to lower tax payer cost!

I have dear friends from India who are in the U.S. legally, with a work visa. One of them told me that he is constantly uneasy because of all the things he needs to do to adhere to the relevant laws. He is frustrated that so many immigrants are being allowed to illegally enter the U.S.

I'm so happy I moved out of NYC 2 years ago. I saw first-hand what was going on at the time and knew it was time to escape. Not only that, but my husband and I haven't been represented in NYC for a very long time, so we had enough of our votes not counting, so we left to a city and state where are votes actually count for the first time in a very long time.
The amazing part is I’m not hearing ANYONE in these states say “CLOSE THE BORDER!” Smh

What I don't understand is why when you travel to the United States no one warn you about the evident dangers of those cities? The quickest way to get municipalities to act against this is to allow businesses to subtract these losses from their taxes. Businesses in that lawless area in Oregon told the city that since there was no police presence why should we continue to pay taxes?? That the city wasn’t upholding its side of the bargain.

It's gonna be called Walmart Plus if they go through with it. The theory is, honest people paying for it will not steal. I will NEVER join such a thing. It's insulting how they got rid of half their cashiers in the first place, makes the lines so long.
I used to go shop at night around midnight on weekends, to avoid crowds and long lines. They don't even have those hours anymore ever since the Beer Flu. At that time, they closed the store nightly while cleaning crews went around spraying everything with disinfectant. When all that ended, they just decided to not be open at night anymore
It doesn't matter how much guns is made use of by property owners to protect their businesses, if the fundamental problem behind these incidents are not addressed, which is the poverty, it will continue in other ways. These criminals will simply innovate around it and continue their actions.

I like the invite method you came up with for stores, I really like that and encourage stores to do this. Get what the customer ordered online for a store pick up and that's it.

The problem is, these places punish people who intervene. If you try to defend yourself in NYC, you will end up in a prison cell.
Here’s another problem they never talk about. Once you file a police report of the incident, and an insurance claim, your future insurance policy rates will go through the roof . And even if your store were to close, any other business that occupies that address (space) where the burglary occured, will be paying hefty insurance rates, just due to the fact that that particular address has been burglarized in the past…so basically…you get ‘robbed’ twice.

Another thing to remember is that insurance companies aren’t benevolent entities. They will only pay grudgingly if at all. After having paid a claim the insurance company will raise the premiums. If it happens enough they raise every business in the areas premiums. Until eventually they can cease to open contracts with any business in that area. No insurance and the business can’t stay open.
The store needs to hire about 6 times the security guards and make a wall of guards in front of the exit door. They should ask for ID of each person who enters the store. That's the only way they'll be able to stop the crime.

Mind you he had warned the man from his window when he saw him that he was coming out armed and would shoot him if he didn't stop and get out of his car. The thief would not stop, so the man went out and shot his ass. The lady was screaming that her son was shot over a stereo. No, m'am. Raise better children. Somehow he did not get the message to not take things that don't belong to him. He was over 20 years old, so this was not a peer pressure-confusion thing.

Your "Buy online and come pick up" was actually the concept of a defunct store called Service Merchandise. This was the pre-Internet days. Customers would input their order to a kiosk pay and go to a "pickup" window. Then the merchandise was retrieved from a storage room. An updated version with online shopping may be the future. In the future brick and mortar stores may have NOTHING on display and use this concept.

I'm in Red Indiana, (but Blue Indianapolis). Was at a CVS several years ago, person just walked out with MERCH. Cashier didn't bat an eye, said they don't do anything. That store is now closed, as are several other CVS that I know of.
I agree - I am blessed to live in Florida, where we have heroes like Gov. Ron DeSantis who ships illegal migrants to sanctuary cities and also turns their boats back, and just signed a law that allows squatters to be arrested immediately, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd (you've seen his many UA-cam videos!) and Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson who told gun owners to shoot home invaders to save taxpayers money & prevent them from reoffending. And we have to give a shout-out to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who addressed the issue of squatters declaring that the Texas Castle Doctrine expowers Texans to use force to defend themselves and their property, and who also signed a new law that authorizes state and local police to detain and arrest people suspected of crossing into the U.S. in Texas from Mexico illegally because the federal government is not enforcing our immigration laws. The law also empowers judges to order people to be deported to Mexico. The federal government sued him, claiming that only the federal government can enforce immigration laws. Gov. Abbott appealed all the way to the US Supreme Court, which ruled in his favor, saying the State of Texas has the right to defend itself. On top of that, Joe Biden not only halted construction of President Trump's border wall, he began demolishing wall that had been completed. So in 2021 Texas issued $1.5 billion in contracts to build about 40 miles of border barrier and Gov. Abbott just added about $1.54 billion to that to continue construction of barriers along the state's 1,200-mile border. Residents of other states must follow Florida's and Texas' leads and vote in governors, legislators and sheriffs who will enforce existing laws and enact additional ones to put the people of their state(s) first!!! The huge surge in crime in this country MUST be reversed! Vote the Dems out and take back your cities and states!!!!
Where I live, they made it legal to carry concealed (without a Federal CCW permit), even in most “gun free zones”. Mainly schools but also some State government buildings and ALL State parks. The crime here is almost nonexistent and I pity the poor dumbass who attempts to rob someone here. The “sentence” of theft/criminality in this State is DEATH and everyone knows it.
Only a matter of time until the blue states bus thousands and thousands in to a red state neighborhood near you. Sorry but IT is an invasion to destroy the US by globalists and democrats. Reality.
When I was four or five, my mom took us grocery shopping and while in the checkout line I took gum, when we got outside I asked mom to open it. When mom realized she didn’t buy it she walked me back in to the store called the manager and made me confess to taking the gum. She then paid for the gum and I got a firm but instructive talking to from the manager as to what I did and why it was bad. Was nothing compared to when we got home! Still remember that fifty years later! Lesson learned!

I had the exact same experience at the age of four. It was a pack of juicy fruit chewing gum, 1975. I remember it like it was yesterday.
I worked at a Macy’s store prior to Covid. This was on the outskirts of Mesa AZ. They had grab and run problems then. I remember pairs of thieves. One to distract the employee and the other to cut the cables on high end goods. We weren’t allowed to pursue them. One store in California reported someone wheeling out a clothes rack in broad daylight. If they took a backpack into the dressing room and came out with it loaded-Hands off. We didn’t see them load it. It was bad then.
The problem with "buy it online and then come pick it up in the store" or "one-on-one shopping with a store attendant" is that it removes all of the on sight, unexpected purchases that for many types of stores is the bulk of their extra sales. (For example- people go into Target to buy shampoo and cat litter, but come out with 4 bags of items.) Those types of rigorous security measures would end up hurting the stores instead of helping, as it may end shoplifting but also cancel all their extra revenue.
When the food starts to run out you're going to know about trouble then when they all are going to break into your houses and do away with you just so they can get what is in your kitchen cupboard

That location is a yuppie safe neighborhood called “west loop” in Chicago. 1 bedroom condos , built less than 20 years ago $450k.
It's the same in the U.K. Stores have told staff not to try to stop thieves to avoid being attacked. The police often don't even bother to attend the scene.
Unfit for purpose police and a noticeable rise in crime is what prompted me to move my family out of the UK.
We left last month, but had been planning our departure a few years in advance.

There are plenty of videos on Ytube, and plenty of incidents where people just go into these places and pick up whatever they want and just walk out. Store staff have been instructed not to try to apprehend them for fear of attack.

Insured? Do you reasize it drives cost of insurance up? That those cost gets passed to the comsumer because of these thieves.
And it is a commonly held myth that insurance companies reimburse for stolen goods in retail. They only reimburse for property damage. Additionally as you said the cost just gets passed on to the consumers and the companies cut costs by downsizing their sales force and cutting hours and benefits.
And insured by which insurance companies? An insurance company is not gonna lose money,, they charge more for every premium they hold from business insurance down to rental insurance! We ALL pay for this crap!!
Well, the problem with removing goods and services from brick and mortar stores is that the stores now have to pay rent on a warehouse to store their goods and have them shipped and many other things that are going to cost the store money which will raise the cost of the goods

Would still greatly impact a store in both cost and losing the extra sales by display and browsing. It is what it is now hard to tell if things are too far down the slope.
