This fly proved absolutely deadly whilst fly fishing the Soca River in Slovenia. The fly was given to me by Uros Kristan and scored a number of times with both Rainbow Trout and Marble Trout. That's not to say that this fly will not be just as effective back home in the UK. Anywhere there is a hatch of terrestrials on the water whether it be stillwater fishing or river fishing, this should get the job done.

Fantastic ! Looks similar to a elk or deer hair caddis or moth pattern . Also reminiscent of a bibio minus the red. It'll be in my box for 2023! Cheers!

Never tried it although I can appreciate that it is an effective way of catching fish. As for the fly tying I have seen the flies they look cool.

This looks to be a good choice for stillwaters using a 230 down to a #14 whenever dark caddis/ heather/ hawthorn or non specific dark terrestrial are on the water. Possibly a part of a washing line, nymph, emerger, buzzer set up

Awesome tie Lindsay. Looks so much like Fratnik's Black Sedge by Marjan Fratnik of Milan, formerly of Most Na Soci in Slovenia, which utilizes the cul-de-canard for the wing. Thanks for sharing, will tie some up here in eastern Canada.

Great looking fly. Will need to get some black deer hair. Meanwhile might try using some fine black bucktail I have somewhere!

Might be hard to tie with bucktail, let me know how you get on.

@@lindsayiflyfish Fortunately some of the bucktail is quite fine so I have already tied up two on size tens. I’ll wait on some deer hair before going smaller.
With some legs the fly should work in May as a Hawthorn?

Hi. Where would you recommend staying in Slovenia? I usually fish in Austria yet want something different next summer plus I’d like to try for Marble Trout.

In the past I have stayed in Bled and mostly fished the Sava. If you want to target Marble trout then staying in the Soca valley is your best bet. I am currently looking into accommodation for a trip early June.

When you used this fly. Spring summer autumn? Is this a stone fly pattern? Did you fish this fly on Idrijca?

  • @andysfishingandflytyingcha2310

That's a great looking fly. Just "looks" like a fish taker.
