Great video. Too bad so many had to spoil the comments by questioning his experience as a Black man. If it were my channel I would take the time to delete them all.

@Bobbie B It isn't about race! Did you even bother to listen to what this young man said? It is about him and other people of color setting an example! When you see nomadic life, it's normally done NOT by people of color and if there's nobody to show them that they can do it too, and how beautiful a life it truly is, alot of them may never see the possibility....How would they know that it is a positive and freeing way of life that they can be a part of if they never saw anybody that looked like them and that goes for any other ethnicity so NOPE absolutely nothing to do with race, but more about showing alot of other black guys that there really is more to life than sticks & bricks, paying rent forever, living outside of your comfort zone, and that the world really can be a wonderful place!!💯💯💯 Nomadic life can bring you a more stress-free existence if you're willing to give it a try......

OMG, Dude…You just nailed every sentiment I’ve ever had about this subject/lifestyle (especially, the “I can’t just post up…” part)! I lived in my Mini Cooper for an entire Western New York winter, and security was my only concern. I’ve always had a YMCA membership, so showers, and everything else, wasn’t a concern. This has to be the best van/home tour I've watched in a long time. He really is a very interesting, articulate and funny man. Love what he's done with this space gorgeous. Can't wait to see what he does with other vans and what he'll do with containers.
Unfortunately, I've seen very few people of colour doing van life. Usually, it is white people, especially white women. It is always a pleasure to see a person of colour breaking free of societal molds like this wonderful young man. I agree that his community needs more great examples like him and laud him for stepping into that role. Indeed, MY community (I'm an elderly white woman) needs to see more great examples like him! We need to open our eyes and hearts better. While he deserves to be respected and accepted simply for being a marvelous and thoughtful human being, I completely understand his statement/s regarding being a man of colour in the van life world. The world needs more people like him. All the best to him.
I too Love the simple life. I am in the process of decluttering my house and you are correct in saying it clears the mind as well. Loved the tour of your rig. You are such a pleasant young man.💞
Easily one of my all time favorite van tours! I love the rotating art pieces and books. Everything flows and is perfectly placed with a calming yet energetic colour scheme. The Murphy bed & it’s late-night mural design are PERFECT! Well done! 😀
Thank you so much for your voice and representation!❤️ Tiny living has been a dream of mine especially now being a single parent. It just makes sense for me and my son…. But the fear of being attacked while alone with my son is very real and has lead to procrastination in completing this dream of ours…. Maybe one day we will be on the road safe 😊
Thank you for the tour Vaughn! What an intelligent, warm, beautiful soul you are, full of inspiration, and with a fantastic looking home on wheels! I'm a white senior lady and it breaks my heart that you have to be concerned with your safety as a "black" man. Life just ISN'T fair for some and I pray that this will change someday soon!!! I really love this video. Been a fan of the channel. I love that he spoke his truth. There are so many people going thru this life with blinders on. I have wanted a van for two years and I do live in Texas. I have a Fear of being safe while driving, which is disappointing. No one should have this fear. Thank you for being YOU!
I am so relieved to hear him talk about the level of anxiety we feel as people of color to explore van life or even an off grid lifestyle. I have a great desire to live off grid but the fear of the unknown keeps me right where I'm at. I absolutely agree sitting in front of a computer all day does takes a toll on the body. Muscles do get really tight and tense. This truck is phenomenal he literally has everything you need. Great job.
It's the same for solo women that live full time in a van. Except we are scared EVERYWHERE. Even those that live a house and have to go to town, or out for the evening, have to watch our backs ALWAYS.
@@mamaredz9391 maybe it's you that's not understanding her point of view. She's just as entitled to voice her opinion as he is to his and you to agree with him.

I have absolutely enjoyed this episode, and thank you so much for your insightful analysis!!! You have created a beautiful home. Be well and have safe travels!

Congratulations on putting yourself out there! We, as Black people living in the United States, have to work so hard just to be part of this country in any meaningful way. There is so. much pushback against our being equal human beings. Thanks for taking that leap of faith and for being a visible presence for other Black folks who want that lifestyle.
Yes, what he said was very accurate. So many white people (and I am one) are in denial of the extent of racism that still exists in the US. Some people like to just blame it on the media and say the media is exaggerating, but if you have friends and family of color, and see and hear what some have been through, you learn how bad it still is.
Love it and thank you. I'm getting ready to transition to a short bus and so excited about gaining my Freedom. Your set up is perfect. Blessings and Love 💗
Agree with every point that you've raised even though our backgrounds & life are very different. On the subject of simplifying things, I enjoy washing the dishes by hand. It's incredible how my mind wanders, some make me laugh out loud, some are reliving fond memories & there's never been anything stressful to spoil the moment. Best of all, I've had some solutions to lingering problems just magically reveal themselves. The mind is an amazing thing once you set it free.
You did a marvelous job with your van. Love the painting beneath your Murphy bed, the cushion covers, rotating art, window with plants, etc. I'm an artist so that's the first things that I noticed and am immediately drawn to in your home. Compact, functional, and cozy home! Enjoy your new van conversion business. Jenny :o)
Thank you for sharing your lovely home and story. And thank you for your honesty about what Van life and living off the gird is like as it pertains to "People Of Color " As it is always going to be a different experience from those to whom are not. This is something I myself am moving towards doing in the next few months. And as a Solo Black Woman I know I have to be particularly cautious. The Dry Flush needs to get on it already! Laveo said they were going to come out with a more “green” option. It’s a great premise but not having them be compostable bags, I just can’t. We even figured out how to put a raised seat on it and install a urine diverter so only the solids would be flushed (saving cartridges). We had to go with the seperatte since Laveo doesn’t seem to be moving on any advancements. Luckily their Seperatte’s composter’s have gone down a lot and are now less than the dry flush, dropping almost half and now are around $530. Laveo Dry Flush is Viable option for van life, makes sense. Thanks for sharing.
This is the nicest looking box truck l've seen. I love the mural. Incredible conversation and yes there is definitely a need to recognize and see black vanlifers.
Hey dude, I simply love your big green truck!💚💚💚....Your home on wheels is pretty big too! I've truly enjoyed watching your video, it was informative,. really funny ( the shower slipping thing) and yes it does help for people of color to see someone that looks like them do life on their terms!!💯💯👍🏾👍🏾
Well done! I think my favorite thing about the whole truck is that it's unique to you and a different thought process on the layout. It's nice that's it's simple; but you've covered every necessity well.
His description of the type of toilet he has installed, with a removable cartridge, sounds even better than a composting toilet. Also, as one van owner said who likes to travel out of the country in her van, such as down through Central America and into South America, not all countries have areas where a person can empty a black water tank. She therefore chose a composting toilet, but this man's toilet sounds even better than a composting one.
Dang, man! That is sweet! I so understand what you were saying about stuff and things taking up mental space, and bogging us down. I wouldn't label myself a minimalist (yet?), but I am finding, the more I get rid of, the better I feel. Beautiful build. I hope you continue to enjoy it, and your company prospers.
Preach brother. I am a little nervous about starting this van life change. I'm close to finishing my build. Live in LA. And an active 72 year old, black woman and like you our community you don't see this life style until maybe the last couple of years. Be safe!
awesome! i love how you describe each detail with such adoration. your build is so intentional. great work. i’m excited to learn you’re now building as a profession. way to go.
We had one of the first box truck conversions back in 1971. It was an Arnold Bread truck. We bought it for $400.00, rebuilt the clutch and converted it to a camper to tour Eastern Canada and Prince Edward Island for the summer. Little did we know to what degree someone like you would take this concept! The market is open to you. So many Americans are facing evictions or just overwhelmed with student loans and high rents. We are out of that loop and farming, but I could see myself in a tiny house someday if I needed to down size. You have done an amazing job of form/fit/function to suit your personal lifestyle. I can see you helping others to realize their dream of having a home that is simple and theirs. ~ Diane
Considering how low home ownership is among people of color in the US he's a great example of a different possibility. I enjoyed hearing his take on this lifestyle
Yeah, banks will mess up your home lone (the NPR investigation opened a lot of eyes), but few will hinder a Black person from getting something that looks like a work vehicle.
I would so love to build out a truck like this for camping and travel. I love the fact that you can easily access the home from the driving area. And the fact that you can stand up fully.
Thank you for this video. You are correct. There aren't enough men from our community doing Van RV living, just for the reasons that you've mentioned. Great job!
Thank you! I love your conversion! My husband and I (this is Dons wife Diane) want to hit the road off grid in 2022, so we are researching RVs, & conversions. I like the holiness of conversions so much better! Just would need to be the right rig!!
Thanks soooo much for posting your story and journey!! Being a lady of color I really appreciate you and showing my son that this is possible for him this year! A new year with so many possibilities. Believe it and you can achieve it. Doubt and do without! Keep the faith!
I can't put into words how much I like this home. It's loaded with color and art (art is a must in my tiny home as well,) it's off grid, and it's contained spaciousness. I'm so excited to be coming away with the brilliant "work out" idea. I live in a small toy hauler, and the anchors in the floor are perfect for this application. It never occurred to me to use them. Thank you! It's great that you're sharing your creativity, and love for this life style, with others by building these beautiful homes for others.
The "remote" DC terminal block; excellent idea! I've thought about that too where one has two or three remote terminal blocks located where most of the power splits are.
Great video man! Glad I found this. LOVE your message at 6:20 about doing this as a person of color! So fantastic!!! Love your van too and congrats on following your passion. Best of luck with the business!!!! Cheers

Be safe!
Awesome!
awesome! i love how you describe each detail with such adoration. your build is so intentional. great work. i’m excited to learn you’re now building as a profession. way to go.
LOVE the big art piece! Not only is it beautiful in itself, it lends a lovely feel to the whole space.

@@argates6507 I'd like to read this story, please provide info about this
@@Frost-tb9qs you could look it up if youre that determined to try and disprove what theyre saying
Blacks do own homes across the U.S. please don’t believe the b.s. the news put out.
I would so love to build out a truck like this for camping and travel. I love the fact that you can easily access the home from the driving area. And the fact that you can stand up fully.
This man is amazing I just love his home
This dude seems like a supper chill person, keep being you!
this is what a good man looks like.
Impressed not only by your build but also your approach to life I wish you great all good adventure
I really admire your courage and strength to make a difference. It's unique and it's a reflection of you.
Books, art and comfort👍🏼love it!
This is my first time seeing a box van conversion…very homey and I love the artist touches.
Your comments about introverts needing an example is so true. Thanks for putting into words what I could never articulate.
Cheers
A very well rounded, intelligent man.
Thank you for sharing your creativity and your mission! Beautiful job!
That is a beautiful home...well done.
I am an introvert woman and feel concerned about safety also. This build is lovely and inspiring.
Very nice design. Wow finally a guy and not bad looking 👀
