You Won't Believe What We Found At Top Fuel Japan...

- This one might be one of my favorite episodes yet! Just based purely on all the stuff I unexpectedly found while in the Mie prefecture. First we visit one of my all-time favorite shops for the first time ever, Top Fuel in Matsuzaka. I honestly didn't know what to expect when we arrived, thinking that Top Fuel had shifted their focus to other cars and hadn't placed much focus on Hondas anymore. I thought it would just be a empty shop with a bunch of Suzuki Swifts being worked on but boy was I wrong!! After that we stopped by Voltex in Suzuka for a visit which was also very cool because neither Yasu nor I had ever been. This area is so rich in tuning history that there was so many surprises. Wait until the very end, it's a wild one! You're gonna love it!

That CRX drag car, still have some Amprex & Dreamcars sticker from her last visit to Malaysia...
I was excited to see that Top Fuel time attack S2000 - also my fav! Still looks amazing. Those Top Fuel drag cars was very nostalgia! Thanks for sharing!
We have the top fuel DC5R that was on best motoring DVD and driven by keiichi tsuchiya, Max Orido etc.
It was bought to Australia for world time attack challenge and we managed to buy it a few years back.
It's great to have some Japanese history.
What I like about your presentation style is that you appreciate the historical and cultural value of these shops/builds. Saying things like "this made it worth the trip." I've often felt like this when I was in Japan. It's something that is hard to explain to others that don't 'get' it. Other youtubers in Japan can be so cringe but you are very authentic. Anyway, super cool to see Voltex too! Nakajima-San is such a nice guy. Love seeing how these places are just factories where good old fashioned work gets done. You also saved them with the mount too hahah. So fun to watch. Thank you!
Thanks Edwin! I’m just trying to translate how I’m feeling in the moment and showing the reality of how things are in Japan. Glad people like you get and appreciate it.
I'm sure the guy at Voltex was just nervous lol
Wow! Incredible piece of history/art this episode is. Although those cars are deteriorating, you are helping to preserve them for us and future car enthusiasts. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks, glad the OGs are enjoying it!
Miss your builds
If charged by the authorities, there's a 99% conviction
I’m amazed on how those cars can stay out there and not have anything stolen. Just shows our cultural differences and the decline of morals in America.
Very well said! America is just filled with greed!
Japan is the only place I know of that you can leave your laptop at your table unattended and go use the restroom and have it still be there when you get back.
You’ll get robbed or assaulted just walking in NYC. Murica!
And more and more cars in japan get stolen and shipped abroad, mostly the US nowadays since the people there dont care about the cars history or condition as long as they can have a " authentic jdm af yo"-car. Ironic.
Theres car thefts but they steal newer high end cars, not a bunch of Civics and Silviaa
Absolutely terrific video! Really cool seeing Takahiro wearing one of our shirts (even cooler seeing it show up in one of your videos) much love 💕✨
So rad
Wow, what a nostalgic trip. Loved seeing the old drag cars. What I would do for that CRX hood in the window..
90s import drag racer legends.. remember this topfuel crx race against bergeholts racing crx .. what a 90s honda racers racing history.. awesome video bro 😎 👍🏾🇺🇸🇵🇭
Actually I wonder more (than anything else) about that Primera HP10 casually chilling there near house, that well-handled chassis is pretty rare now especially with such good condition. Very underrated car and grey sheep. And you just passed through. As I understood that worker guy is aim for this platform as his next project. If that so - he is a truly car enthusiast and man of culture, big respect.
I remember watching the Top Fuel cars at Battle of the Imports back in 97 / 98. Amazing cars back then.
Still amazing haha
Such rad history, keeping in their good graces by not being pushy and your content combined may gain you private access to those two amazing cars, eg and crx have me drooling and reminiscing. Great works. Thanks Joey.
Just found your channel..thank you so much for this. Seeing a couple of these cars really made alot of memories flood back! I can tell by your knowledge and appreciation for this stuff that we are from a similar time of being introduced to these cars and this culture(late 90's guys) Incredible!
It's so refreshing to see some proper build JDM cars which aren't drift cars.Love it, i feel like drifting is overshadowing all the rest ATM
Great video! Brings me back to watching old Option videos. I would pay for volume 4 just for this video.
Wait til you see the photos 😄
@@THECHRONICLES Definitely pumped up to see them. The content from this trip is amazing.
It's always fascinating to me that world known companies like Voltex, that sell wings for over 2000€ a piece, look like a one man amateur workshop operation.
The whole "cottage industry/small scale production" thing never died there.
I am also pretty surprised. Looks like the Japanese are what the East Germany people used to be: Clever and practical (the Japanese have access to way more stuff though :) ) without to much unnecessary stuff. I guess it's more about "getting things done right" than having a fancy glass palace i. e. at the fancy OEM car dealers (at least here in Germany the ones from Audi/BMW/Mercedes/Volkswagen). At this shop you pay for the craftmansship and at the dealers you pay also the building/running cost for the palace for each working hour & material when they work on your car.
Excellent content!!! So wonderful to see not only Top Fuel but Voltex too!!!
Not sure if anyones answered you yet but at 6:10 there's a "what's that". Well that is a tricked out S-MX. I'm not sure what year of course, but a lot of them came with b20b's that now get imported to the us. After much research I personally believe they are a source of the p8r heads some NA enthusiasts look for. Just my 2c. Great vids! Truly appreciate the perspective you share. Sub'd!
Thanks Joey for taking the time and making these videos for us.! 👍🏻
You’re welcome!
As usual, another great video and I love that you focus on the nuance. What a coincidence though. A couple days ago on my IG story I put up a pic and old Hot Version clip of the Top Fuel EK9 breaking the 1min barrier at Tsukuba being the first FWD to do so. Top Fuel is definitely uber cool.
That was really an awesome watch, thank you so much for sharing. You literally sounded like a kid in a candy shop, and I don’t blame you. Pure JDM goodness
Haha about as excited as I get for car stuff
Wow, what an interesting video. I remember Top Fuel since I was much younger since they were frequently featured in magazines. Thanks for this feature.
Had me looking for this the other Day lol
Call it a sneak preview
thanks for this vlog Joey! man the more I see Suzuki Swifts I wish we had them!
They would never sell in North America unfortunately. Hot hatches don’t have a good history of selling well in the U.S.
Trip down memory lane - thanks again!
That’s real cool n comforting to see where originality comes from. Would love to see Car Modify Wonders building.
Its 6am + good coffee + watching this = made my day
Love the content especially the Older Honda’s! Thanks for sharing your adventures in Japan😀
thank you for showing the voltex stuff, I ordered a race bumper for my s2k 8 months ago and its coming in this month, now I get why they take so long. worth the wait.
Need more restaurant content out there 🤣 those guys at the end were hilarious
Lol yeah those guys always fuck around like that
damn again.. the contents you put out... soo smooth.. so cinematic.. clean and clear..
I'm glad to see they are still around! I thought they disappeared after the late 2000s economy and closing of some drag racing circuits. Very cool and so historic!!!
so much money there at top fuel and to see what i can see on that van thing, were those green TEs??
I was really hoping to see the OG Top Fuel Del Sol with the RWD and mid engine B18 turbo conversion from eons ago. Thanks for sharing these amazing shops.
What an amazing video. Thank you
I had bought a legit Top Fuel hood sticker(the one that takes up the entire hood) when i went to HK in 2007. I walked into Endless and see it so i had to have it
You just passed on the Primera Autech car. Rare one
Had a G20 with the Sr20. So sweet a ride
This is the hardest JDM video on UA-cam. History lesson.
The silence surrounding the drag CRX will continue to leave me pondering!
Thank you for this gift. My god. What history. Legends of the sport.
it hurts my heart to see all those classic sitting I would do anything just to have the hood I would display that sucker in my front room lol. I'm glad we got to see some shops that you don't normally get to show
Sticky thee best JDM/USDM content, plus the food. Could have a channel just based on food LOL.
Thank you for the dedicated pics and time for the CRX. It’s a true legend and for all EF fans a top 5 grail
Iam Honda O.G. SO I was HOPING more than ANYTHING that the Top Fuel Drag CRX would be in this video. It’s sad they are letting it rot away!! So much HISTORY in that car!!!
Epic episode of The Chronicles! The color of giore S2000 @18:43 is dark cardinal red. It's owner is biyori on YT.
Nice footage as always, keep grindin 👍
When they had a shop in City Of Industry in SoCal the shop had so many interesting things going on. Including Knight Rider replicas
First! Its a honor. Wassup Joey
7:54 In this world in this place, you know it’s not the same. 3x As it was.
Best JDM content Sticky !
Yo you a ever train Jiu-Jitsu ?
6:40 the colour though... beautiful
Love the old car content, such a raw feelings to them. Just wondering about the cool storys when they were in their “hay day”
whoah, even behind the glass, you managed to take stunning images of that nsx!
That mr2 with the bonnet vents for me
I’d spend a full day geeking out on that S2000! Soooo many questions…
Kind of sad to see the state of these cars and the neglect of the old projects cars. Their ek9 inspired me to build and use the kkk k3t turbo on my integra type r back in early 2000.
That white SW20 looks 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice! I was in love with their EK in the early 2000s.
Super awesome S2000 Top Fuel
ohhh no wonder I was like that dude looks familiar lol He's the owner of that EK NICE!
That Top Fuel S2000 aged like fine wine. :)
I’m AMAZED
I would give my arm for both of those preludes lol
DELI BOY!!! yeah bud!
The nsx at the end you gotta go back...
It’s too late haha
hate to see these cars parked away and unused. might as well sell the old cars. but that's one of the dopest tuning shop of our era.
33:45 all in
Of course you would
please go back to japan bro, im new here but i really into your japan trips
Best country in the whole world JAPAN
Top Fuel Ek and Signal Auto turbo ek is and will be a forever legendary Lightweight Boxing match on Tsukuba
I swear your content needs multi million views on each video but whatever, I enjoy it. thanks for allowing us to travel with you 🙏
🏆 - Toyota Celica correctly identified.
👍😎👍
Mugen nsx wat dreams are made from and top fuel first Honda turbo I ever saw back in the lime wire days the mazoria color ek turbo so fast back then to see them still going is sick 🔥🔥🔥
worth the price of a ticket
"Nothing crazy to see here."
Meanwhile a full flat floor/tunnel piece is just sitting behind Joey. As well as the full Tilton evo rear clip 😅
Yup nothing to see there 🤷🏻
@@THECHRONICLES I dunno. That's some pretty cool stuff
So cool yet so sad seeing those cars left outside like that
Amazing!
Wow, that EK
Great coverage Joey.. Tell me you know how to speak Japanese by now ! ahaha
That Suzuki Swift Sport was one of the cleanest cars out there and you didnt even notice it !
Oh I noticed it, they just don’t do much for me and it’s a customer’s car so I don’t want to show anything they don’t want shown.
Its sad how it suprised me to see a 4g lude!
Its beautiful and a secret FWD King
I was gonna ask. Does Yasu just know everybody or are people in Japan the most friendliest folks in the world. Everyone seems so nice there
He’s just a very conversational type of guy.
Shiiit Car Covers on all of them
Cover up all my cars daily 👍🏼
Great content, there are some older cars around the parking lot.
best part of trip
On the Top Fuel EG, is that a tow hook sticking out of the hood? why? Don't think I've ever seen that before.
Yeah it is actually pretty common to pull from there since it’s a strong part of the vehicle structurally.
As Joey said lots of track cars use the strut tower area to either weld or bolt on a tow hook as it's a strong reinforced area. It's also up out of the way so in the case of a front end collision/damage to point is still accessible.
On there radar? Where is my interview? Do you only travel through Asia or do you come state side?
I want one of those preludes lol
Hey Joey, what time of day was it while you were there? For a big shop it seems like no one works there.
Early afternoon, there were actually a bunch of employees there I just didn’t show any of them cuz they were busy.
@@THECHRONICLES thanks!
thought it was gonna be the remains of the EK9 that killed Yatabe speed trial and a poor man's life
Why would they keep that
あなたのビデオすごくいいね
Thank you!
Will they sell the prelude I’ll have that shipped now
🤍💎👑 true legends
29:30 now where can I cop me some voltex pants?
Hard to fantom "Top Fuel" and "Japan" in the same sentence
Think you need a bigger wing on that !
Jasu, the man who knows everyone in japan 🤭
Who is Jasu?
@@THECHRONICLES sorry, Yasu not Jasu 🙈
when the air cooler is bigger than the block...
worlds best commute
OMG, SO. DAMN. JEALOUS!
Haha I knew you would be!
