  • African species are hard to work with in general, but when we get a hairless giant cape that hasnt even been shaved properly , it just adds to the difficulty and takes away form the fun. Hope you enjoy the video.

Nice Video! I found that a 10 Minute Soak in Baking soda and water Right before I want to mount a Stubborn skin makes that cape stretch like a Rubber Band too! Lol I’m sure you know that Ol trick too!!

Yes and I have used it a few times. But most tanned hides come back to me ok though.

you maybe should try a different tannery. I have never had stretching problems using quality fur dressing on all my african skins.

    You do a wonderful job!
How do you manage to have such fine skin?
I am an amateur, can you give me advice for tanning and pre-tanning?
Do you have an address that I send you my creations?
    thank you in advance
    F.

Thanks... My advice is find a good Tannery in your local area, I dont tan any skins my self, I have a shaving machine to thin out the hides the Tanner was supposed to do.

hey! Hello my friend. i have a little question for you, i will be grateful for your help, Do you think that an ordinary bench grinder can substitute pretty well the work of the flesh (shaving) machine? on the other side, what´s your name master?

    • @ArtofTaxidermy

      Hi Eduardo
Wire wheel can do the small mammals with care, but not the big animals. You need a fleshing machine.
      Cheers. My name is Ben.

@@ArtofTaxidermy Thank you Ben, Unfortunately the taxidermy labor in Mexico have very low spotlight, compared to USA or Canada, it is hard purchase the specific equipment so we must work with what we have within our reach, devise the tools or maybe import. i had my first approach in the university making scientific taxidermy, i discovered one of my greatest passions, your videos help me to polish my technique and keep dreaming also they are entertaining. Great job my friend!

I’m glad you are using the videos and benefiting from them. There are a few tools in taxidermy which is hard to find and they necessary, but most of them can be found anywhere and a lot of them you can build.

John Bellucci what’s the average price for a white tale buck?

    • @LordRusty5
      @LordRusty5 4 роки тому +1

@@coinhunter7776 The "average" price varies from Taxidermist to Taxidermist. Much is based on their knowledge and experience. I started in Taxidermy when I was 11 years old ... way back in 1966, and have been doing this ever since. My price for a standard shoulder mount Whitetail Deer, is $675.00, with a deposit of about half down - at least a $300.00 deposit.

by charging enough to cover expenses, over head and time.
