That Turkish 8f is that the one that was being rebuilt on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire steam railway about 20 years ago I think the chap who owned it was called mike slade he also owned a proto type 08 shunter which was also on the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire steam railway being rebuilt,
British rail spend 4 million pounds on making new diesel locomotives and their life span is around 10 years some of the steam lasted 90 years not economic
While all these good things are going on in Barry three rare locos (Saddle tank, fireless and diesel) have been rotting away outside the rolling mill copperworks for decades. I'll be going there soon to make video for my u tube channel. I want a rep from Swansea Museum to ask them why they are not letting many people like myself to preserve them for future restoration. I made a post on the Cab Yard and many members agree with me.
I am American, but I know about the Hafod Marfa Copper Works and wonder why is the British government not involved on stabilizing and saving the buildings and whats left there? Really, this should become a museum and interpretive center. The same thing though was done in the US in Pittsburgh, more than 90% of all the steel mills were torn down and nothing was saved. I saw a large water wheel at the Hafod Marfa Copper Works thats been left outside in the rain for years, it will be destroyed in no time.
Thanks. I was a member of the BIR but we've disbanded and all the old locos etc have gone to other railways/societies. It's now TfW new FLIRT depot at Barry
It's all TfW now, all memories only. I think I was the last to record any movements at the BTR when the 3 steam locos were there last year for a Railtour loco exchange
Thanks for the video. Since the demise of Woodham's yard Its apparent I have even less reason to visit Barry now. 🏴 🇬🇧
Not unless you wish to live " on the Island" There's a new road and over 500 new houses on the scrapyard site

Proof that "progress" is not always the right direction.
Ive just been to manchester, where history is being saved and celebrated. this however is very 1984.. wiping away our history as its never existed.
I thought that the converted coaches into retail units have an air of 1984 about them.

Most of our locos over the past 20 years are built in USA. Canada, Spain etc not even the UK
About the only thing that's stayed the same is Howe motors on Hood Road.
i bough from them too.
So much for the plan to extend up to Barry Docks Station then.
i even remember the idea to extend through the tunnel and sail to Mine head !!
Not quite the same ambiance in 2023, but if the redevelopment saves the old buildings from being destroyed then so be it, I suppose.

We can't even have a museum to record the history of the town.
@@Jason-sx6su Who or what's stopping this ?

Much rather have the working line there. Good footage Mike

They haven't even got the money to finish the project
So many people don't know it exists as a retail area; also parking close by is limited
They were lucky to get a many as they did from Barry....
