No, en EEUU se habla cada vez más español, muchos estudiantes lo eligen como segundo idioma. Otra cosa es UK, que son unos putos piratas que odian el español y agreden a cualquiera que lo hable. Canadá tiene el francés y la verdad que Australia y Nueva Zelanda lo ignoro. Un saludo.

La razón por la que dices que es "el idioma universal" es solo porque mucha mas gente chapurrea el inglés. Chapurrea es habla pero no lo habla a nivel nativo. Yo escribo comentarios en inglés todo el tiempo, ésto con la finalidad de memorizar y practicar mi vocabulario en la lengua inglesa y gracias a este hábito, puedo jactarme de tener un vocabulario bastante nutrido y expresarme con palabras mucho muy cultas que ni los mismos anglo parlantes utilizan o que ni conocen. Solamente como aclaración a tu señalamiento: todos los que son nativo parlantes del español escribiendo en inglés lo hacemos por la misma razón *porque sabemos* ignorante quien no sepa.

that exact thing happened to me. I had been feeling pretty good about my progress in learning Spanish. I went to a town about 20 miles away (that had a high population of latinos) to shop at the Tienda and practice my skills. I walked in and the employees were speaking to each other so fast that i had no idea what they were saying. My mind dumped everything I had ever known into the garbage. I felt so completed ignorant and out of place. i just wanted to go home and crawl under the blanket. I bought a few piddly pieces of candy and left. I was about to head back home almost in tears. I decided that i was not going to waste this trip and turned around. i went to another store. The employee and I were the only ones in the store. He stuck up a polite conversation and when i answered in Spanish he smiled and we were able to have a full on conversation in Spanish for about 5 minutes or so. I was truly happy that I did not allow my experience in the first Tienda to set me back.

The best thing about Spanish is that most words are pronounced just as they're written, and unlike in English and several other languages, Spanish doesn't have special sounds (like the th, etc.). Plus, it only has 5 vowel pronunciations.

Don't feel discouraged if you don't understand Spanish, oftentimes we Hispanics don't understand each other, but we don't think "my Spanish sucks" we just think: "Wow Chileans speak really weird" (I keed, I keed, I love Chileans) It's no different than an American listening to a Scottish or an Australian person with a heavy regional accent.
And I think we let a lot of things go, but non-native speakers feel that they have to understand every little thing where sometimes we don't care or we don't respond if we don't understand. I mean is it rare to see a native speaker ask "what?" Or "sorry?" No, not in the least.

PS: If you want to understand an informal conversation between two Chileans you will find yourself in quite a hard situation, but if a Chilean talks to you and he knows you are a foreigner, he will not use any localisms and it's only the accent you have to deal with

Todos los que están aprendiendo español, no se preocupen , muchos de los nativos tampoco lo hablamos perfectamente , es decir, a veces decimos mal una oración, o no lo hacemos bien la reglas gramaticales es más , hay muchos que no pueden diferenciar entre 'ay' 'ahí' 'hay'.
Sí, pero eso no significa que sea correcto, habla de una comunidad con carencias educacional. Está bien no preocuparse, pero, si se tienen las herramientas para mejorar, siempre es bueno hacerlo.

From my experience, what helped me to learn english in a fast and efficent way was to listen podcasts of people talking to each other, so you can listen to your favorite topics same time youre learning spanish, mucha suerte!! Y practica mucho!
Tiene gracia que los anglo-parlantes consideran que la dificultad del español radica en la velocidad de este idioma cuando a nosotros nos pasa lo mismo con el inglés. Además, en Inglés usais muchísimas contracciones para acortar las palabras y a mí al menos me da la sensación de que os "pisais" al hablar por esto mismo, por lo que cuesta más aún diferenciar las palabras que pronunciais. Además, los ejemplos mostrados en el video no son representativos de la realidad, ya que o bien son youtubers que hablan rápido en sus vídeos para llamar la atención o bien se ve a personas que recitan un trabalenguas, los cuales incluso a los hispano hablantes nos costaría recitar y que tendríamos que practicarlos unas cuantas veces para pronunciarlos correctamente sin errores.
I'm from Dominican Republic, here we talk quickly however when we're talking with a Spanish learner we try to speak slowly and clearly. No worries if your Spanish ain't perfect, Latin people gonna understand what you're trying to say. Good luck and make your best effort dude. I'm trying to improve my English and trust me i always have thought that my English is a shit, i try to improve my English every single day thou, and be confident when i'm talking in English.
One other tip: be aware that many native Spanish speakers run their words together: quieropedirunfavor. When you are learning the language you learn it as: quiero, pedir, un, favor. Being aware that we tend to run our words together in Spanish will help with the anxiety which short circuits your brain upon listening. When you practice speaking the language try saying the sentence as if it were one long continuous word: "Amimegustairalcine" instead of "A mi me gusta ir al cine". Oddly enough, if you begin to speak this way, your ear and your brain will start to tune in to how the language is spoken and help you with that hurdle of understanding.
Hi Mark! I am from Honduras, well that's a good tip, most of the time we speak very fast. I am learning English and this has taken me two years in order to reach what I know right now. Well, the same advice I give my students (I'm an English teacher in Mexico): Beginners: 1. Read kid's stuff like fairy tales or any other material intended for children, as they use very simple vocabulary (Reading). 2. Listen music with clear lyrics, choose artists like The Beatles and Madonna or any other whose pronunciation is clear enough to identify all the words you listen to and at the same time sing reading the lyrics (Listening and reading). 3. Watch cartoons and movies with subtitles in the same language of course, like in my first point, the vocabulary for kids is more simple (Listening and reading). 4. Play video games, in some cases it helps a lot, believe me I've been surprised by the progress that some of my students make just by playing video games (Listening and reading). 5. Write essays, letters, e-mails, messages or chat as much as you can, preferable with native speakers (Writing). 6. Use "pictionaries" rather than dictionaries, images are much better than words to understand concepts and ideas, our brains tend to work better with images (Association). 7. Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk and talk as much as you can with as many people as you can find available to practice, again, preferable with native speakers, and if you can't talk to someone "talk to the walls and stones" but SPEAK, SPEAK and SPEAK a lot, this is the skill that many of us value the most when learning a new language (Speaking). I won't lie to you, Spanish grammar is a pain in the butt it has too many rules and it's really a challenge for most of learners around the world with a few exceptions like the people from the other Romance languages speaking countries, in general Spanish grammar is hard but not impossible, good luck!
It might seem difficult but Spanish learners have a big advantage over English learners: Pronunciation rules never change, there are no contractions and there are only five vowel sounds. The only thing more difficult is picking up slang and words used in certain regions.

You are correct...however... Gender and gender agreement might be very challenging for a native English speaker to memorize once their vocabulary starts to grow considerably, and not to mention conjugating verbs (especially irregular verbs) in 18 different major tenses can be quite a headache for most people, even native Spanish speakers. I've always said that Spanish is an "easy" language to learn the basics to, but not at all an easy language if you want to learn it _well..._ Add to that the enormous variation and richness in vocabulary from country to country....it truly is one of the coolest languages in the world!

@@ogeidnomar4601 Definitely. I thought Spanish was pretty much like a piece of cake for English speakers, but then I found that they also have a bit of a struggle with it!
The reason why Spanish can be spoken so fast it's because of two reasons: 1. The very simple phonetics. Unlike English which has like 20 vowel sounds Spanish has only 5 vowel sounds. Nothing more than that, so the speakers can accelerate the pronunciation because there is less space for misunderstanding/miss-hearing. 2. The pronouns declination. In Spanish a Verb will never repeat its form. What I mean by that is that for example in English you say "They run" and "I run", so the verb doesn't change most of the time. In Spanish the verb ALWAYS changes for each pronoun, and also for each tense (Spanish also have more tenses than any other language I know, at least 7 on the top of my head and we use them all), which allows the speaker to focus less on intonation and more on grammatical forms to be precise about the idea to be transmitted, hence allowing the speaker to make less pauses and keep the speed. This is why many people think we speak like a Machine Gun.
No escucho español lento, siempre escucho español de velocidad normal, con subtítulos. También, a mi me gusta leer libros en español y escuchar el audiolibro al mismo tiempo. Nunca puse el audio como lento. Es bueno para desarrollar mis habilidades.
I've come across with plenty of people who say the same like you. A foreign language always is gonna be tricky but once you're getting used to listen it turns into straightforward I've got almost the same problem in English all of you tend to speak with contractions and it's pretty difficult to understand them

Santos Saúl Álvarez Barragán (El Canelo) obvio que los chilenos nos entendemos entre sí , podemos hablar bien , incluso , el uso formal del lenguaje se usa mayoritariamente , lo que tú escuchas y la mayoría escucha es el informal , que es cuando hay confianza o simplemente la situación . Pero para trabajos , comunicación con persona que no conoces , gente mayor , entre otros , se habla formal , e incluso se llega a notar el acento que tenemos .

It depends of the area, I am Spanish and I know my language is difficult, and it’s even harder when you try to understand certain people with different accent (don’t you dare to visit Argentina If you are afraid of quick speakers LOL), and we constantly use abbreviations in the south of Spain. When I study English (I even have some English videos in my channel as a way to improve my skills) is more difficult to understand people from rural areas of UK instead of people from big cities. English and Spanish are both the most used languages around the world so they are worth to learn. Regards from Spain.

Estoy aprendiendo francés (el español es mi lengua nativa) y me sentía frustrado porque sentía que los franceses hablaban rápido. Así que busqué "fast spanish" y me encontré con este vídeo. Me hizo sentir un poco más tranquilo saber que otras personas tienen el mismo problema con mi idioma. De hecho me sorprendió mucho saber que, de hecho, el español se habla más rápido que el francés. Me sorprende que un americano diga que los hispanoparlantes hablamos rápido. ¿Y ellos? Me refiero a los estadounidenses. Porque si los ingleses hablan rápido, los americanos hablan A TODA HOSTIA (expresión muy española). Yo creo tener buen nivel de inglés, si bien entiendo mejor el inglés británico, pero me resulta imposible seguir una película o serie americana en versión original. Puedo empezar a ver CSI, por ejemplo,.... y al final tengo que recurrir a los subtítulos porque de otra manera no entiendo el 80% de lo que dicen, es decir, casi nada, con lo cual no me entero de la historia. As a Spanish speaking individual, I am really suprised at how English speaking people find Spanish hard to understand. I mean, Spanish have IMO a clearer pronunciation, we have just 5 different sounds for our 5 vowels, the same combinations of letters are always pronounced the same way... the only hard thing is grammar. On the other hand Spanish people have serious problems to understand English because the amount of different sounds English vowels have depending on the word, in example, an inexperienced English learner mistakes words like "eat"/"it", "heat"/"hit", "sheet/shit", and so on... Sounds we can't tell apart. Besides, there's that laxity of English pronunciation: same combinations of letters result in the most random pronunciations... so when you come across a new word you can never know how it is pronounced. And do you really think that Spanish speakers speak faster than English speakers??? Really?? English words are ALWAYS shorter than Spanish words!
He’s not talking about pronunciation, which I can see that English might be more difficult. He means that it is difficult for learners to understand native Spanish speakers when they talk at a regular speed. It sounds like many words are merged together and sounds are dropped, and the language is spoken at a very fast speed.
@ Conatcha there are a number of things in Spanish that we don't have in English. 1. verbs heavily conjugate and as a result the pronouns end up omitted. In English you have to use the pronouns because verbs don't heavily conjugate as often 2. Estar & Ser both mean to be but yet are not the same 3. haber and tener both function as to have, but haber can tilt towards to be because it is an auxiliary verb (hay una playa = there 'is' a beach) 4. subordinate verbs in subjunctive form we don't need to spell change the subordinate, etc. Spanish grammar is long and the experts rate it as one of the fastest languages, and yes faster than English. I don't agree that English words are always shorter than Spanish ones. In any case, learning a foreign language is always a challenge in the beginning and for a while because we have to get our minds to accept different ideas and words that relate to each other in a different way. For the speed of English, it can depend. For example, here in Australia, city folk tend to pronounce more clearly and properly so it's slower, while country folk speak very fast and often the consonants disappear plus words are shortened (slang e.g. Servo = Service Station) or replaced by an expression (she's got a bun in the oven = she's pregnant). Why do we argue this anyway. It is what is. Enjoy the faux pas!

As I said before, the hurdle of Spanish for an English speaker is grammar, as it is for other languages as French, Italian, Portuguese, etc. About the speed, that happens in every language, polish language is always well articulated and clearer while "country folks" talk in a way that sometimes another native can't even understand. I would like to know more about those speed rates you're talking about. I really doubt about Spanish being shorter. When I have to translate subtitles from English I always run out of space or I have to cut words out.
In any case, grammar is not the only hard thing. It's combination, speed, grammar and how you can play with subjunctive to bend rules and imply the most subtile meaning, etc. But, yes, English will have it's fair share of challenges. If you want to learn the more relaxed or country version of the language you'll have to live where it is spoken. In any case, I'm not interested in commenting here anymore. This is unbelievably boring. Just live it and accept that it's different.
I wish I could learn Spanish in my sleep! But with a three-year-old in the house, I don’t think I get enough sleep for that... 😆😂 I remember moving from Florida to North Carolina and struggling to understand the accent, even though it was my native language!

@Erin That also happens in the tiny Germany. There it is normal that everyone can name dialects of German he/she cannot understand. And if a person speaks a hard dialect in the TV news or in a documentary it is mostly subtitled into standard german ("Hochdeutsch").

No te preocupes. Inglés es mi primer idioma y cuando escucho rap tengo que escuchar de nuevo (2 o 3 veces para entender las letras). There are just as many English accents as Spanish accents. For example I am from the Southeast US. I am said to have a drawl (es decir que cuando digo algo las palabras son largas). Ampliamos todas las palabras y usamos palabras que no existen como Ain't Y'all y finna). como la gente en República Dominicana cortamos las palabras también (bout time en vez de About time y whatcha doin' en vez de what are you doing y whereya goin' en vez de where are you going.). Just keep trying (focus on standard English with no slang) to learn and keep listening.

As a native Spanish speaker, I would advice u to not focus on the slangs because you’re gonna get confuse , for example: Money=Dinero EVery single Spanish speaking Country knows what “Dinero” Means same pronunciation seme spelling , But using slangs would be : Mexico: Baras , Feria Colombia: Plata Guatemala: Pisto Puerto Rico: Chavos Venezuela: Chamos etc. So don’t focus on the slangs learn that at last .

However, i’m dominican and i speak with a capital “word game” when speaking with friends, and a neutral “word game” when speaking with non-dominican Spanish speakers, so they can understand me better, which is different from me having bad grammar. A lot of Spanish speakers don’t apply/know neutral Spanish though.
En Mexico, o por lo menos de donde soy (Monterrey) decimos 'pisto' para hablar de alcohol y muchos dicen 'lana' para decir dinero en general y 'feria' para decir como cambio (monedas o billetes chicos) In Mexico, or at least from where I'm from (Monterrey) we say 'pisto' when talking about alcohol and many say 'lana' to speak about money. Generally, 'feria' is used to speak of spare change (coins and small bills)
I agree that spanishs is so difficult but not in pronunciation, just in grammar and vocabulary bcs we have tons of words and each level of the lenguage has certain vocabulary and ppl talk different depending in for example what part of the city you are bcs of the social class ++ some words or phrases become a trend for a certain period of time. Even inside of spain, there are many diferente accents: gallego, catalán, asturiano, andaluz, vasco... The ones from the south are similar to one another and so do the ones in the North ( also gallego, vasco and catalan are different because there are second languages spoken, modifying their accents). i think the the spanish spoken is cleaner as you gte closer to the center of spain (even though it isnt perfect, as people tend to make a "z" sound in ending "d"s - Ex: madrid said by many of madrid citizens would be "madriz"- and "sk" sound into "h" or even "j" sound - esque would be ehque, and more like ejque as you go to villages or move ti the south")

that exact thing happened to me. I had been feeling pretty good about my progress in learning Spanish. I went to a town about 20 miles away (that had a high population of latinos) to shop at the Tienda and practice my skills. I walked in and the employees were speaking to each other so fast that i had no idea what they were saying. My mind dumped everything I had ever known into the garbage. I felt so completed ignorant and out of place. i just wanted to go home and crawl under the blanket. I bought a few piddly pieces of candy and left. I was about to head back home almost in tears. I decided that i was not going to waste this trip and turned around. i went to another store. The employee and I were the only ones in the store. He stuck up a polite conversation and when i answered in Spanish he smiled and we were able to have a full on conversation in Spanish for about 5 minutes or so. I was truly happy that I did not allow my experience in the first Tienda to set me back.

The best thing about Spanish is that most words are pronounced just as they're written, and unlike in English and several other languages, Spanish doesn't have special sounds (like the th, etc.). Plus, it only has 5 vowel pronunciations.

Don't feel discouraged if you don't understand Spanish, oftentimes we Hispanics don't understand each other, but we don't think "my Spanish sucks" we just think: "Wow Chileans speak really weird" (I keed, I keed, I love Chileans) It's no different than an American listening to a Scottish or an Australian person with a heavy regional accent.

PS: If you want to understand an informal conversation between two Chileans you will find yourself in quite a hard situation, but if a Chilean talks to you and he knows you are a foreigner, he will not use any localisms and it's only the accent you have to deal with

From my experience, what helped me to learn english in a fast and efficent way was to listen podcasts of people talking to each other, so you can listen to your favorite topics same time youre learning spanish, mucha suerte!! Y practica mucho!

Tiene gracia que los anglo-parlantes consideran que la dificultad del español radica en la velocidad de este idioma cuando a nosotros nos pasa lo mismo con el inglés. Además, en Inglés usais muchísimas contracciones para acortar las palabras y a mí al menos me da la sensación de que os "pisais" al hablar por esto mismo, por lo que cuesta más aún diferenciar las palabras que pronunciais. Además, los ejemplos mostrados en el video no son representativos de la realidad, ya que o bien son youtubers que hablan rápido en sus vídeos para llamar la atención o bien se ve a personas que recitan un trabalenguas, los cuales incluso a los hispano hablantes nos costaría recitar y que tendríamos que practicarlos unas cuantas veces para pronunciarlos correctamente sin errores.
I'm from Dominican Republic, here we talk quickly however when we're talking with a Spanish learner we try to speak slowly and clearly. No worries if your Spanish ain't perfect, Latin people gonna understand what you're trying to say. Good luck and make your best effort dude. I'm trying to improve my English and trust me i always have thought that my English is a shit, i try to improve my English every single day thou, and be confident when i'm talking in English.
One other tip: be aware that many native Spanish speakers run their words together: quieropedirunfavor. When you are learning the language you learn it as: quiero, pedir, un, favor. Being aware that we tend to run our words together in Spanish will help with the anxiety which short circuits your brain upon listening. When you practice speaking the language try saying the sentence as if it were one long continuous word: "Amimegustairalcine" instead of "A mi me gusta ir al cine". Oddly enough, if you begin to speak this way, your ear and your brain will start to tune in to how the language is spoken and help you with that hurdle of understanding.

Not "many" native Spanish, but all of us. Not only Spanish speakers but in general Romance language speakers: French, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese is spoken as a connected-speach form. Four senteces are pronounced like one single extra-long word.

Una posible razón de por qué hablamos tan rápido puede ser que por lo general las palabras en español tienen más cantidad de letras que otras lenguas, especialmente el inglés. Comparen la cantidad de hojas de un diccionario Inglés y otro de español. Entonces, el mundo que vivimos es veloz, necesitamos alcanzarlo.
Yo creería que se debe a la pronunciación, el español se me hace un idioma suave para hablar, quizas por la vocalización y la fácil conjugación de sonidos, entonces se presta para hablarlo fluido, he hecho el ejercicio poniendo a leer a personas que jamás han estudiado o practicado el Idioma y en un 80% lo pronuncian correctamente, cosa que sería imposible si lo hicieras con alguien que por ejemplo nunca ha estudiado Ingles.

Estoy estudiando Alemán y es muy difícil. Es lo mismo para ellos aprender español, la diferencia es que la educación de ellos es superior. Y ellos aprenden francés o italiano y se les hace más fácil aprender español.
Que la gente oye la otra persona hablando rapido es un "Ilusion Auditivo" que ocurre cuando la persona escuchando no entiende mucho de la nueva idioma.
Yo lo q creo es q el ingles es un idioma mas eficiente. El español es un idioma quiza mas elegante, muy bueno para obras literarias, pero ineficiente para una comunicacion coloquial. Y para cuestiones de comercio y negocios, el ingles es impresionante, uno puede promover sus productos con uno o dos palabras en ingles; mientras que en español no se encuentran palabras que sean "vendedoras" en los negocios. El ingles fue creado para el desarrollo economico mientras que el español, para literatura y romanticismo...

Well, the same advice I give my students (I'm an English teacher in Mexico):
Beginners:
1. Read kid's stuff like fairy tales or any other material intended for children, as they use very simple vocabulary (Reading).
2. Listen music with clear lyrics, choose artists like The Beatles and Madonna or any other whose pronunciation is clear enough to identify all the words you listen to and at the same time sing reading the lyrics (Listening and reading).
3. Watch cartoons and movies with subtitles in the same language of course, like in my first point, the vocabulary for kids is more simple (Listening and reading).
4. Play video games, in some cases it helps a lot, believe me I've been surprised by the progress that some of my students make just by playing video games (Listening and reading).
5. Write essays, letters, e-mails, messages or chat as much as you can, preferable with native speakers (Writing).
6. Use "pictionaries" rather than dictionaries, images are much better than words to understand concepts and ideas, our brains tend to work better with images (Association).
7. Talk, talk, talk, talk, talk and talk as much as you can with as many people as you can find available to practice, again, preferable with native speakers, and if you can't talk to someone "talk to the walls and stones" but SPEAK, SPEAK and SPEAK a lot, this is the skill that many of us value the most when learning a new language (Speaking).
I won't lie to you, Spanish grammar is a pain in the butt it has too many rules and it's really a challenge for most of learners around the world with a few exceptions like the people from the other Romance languages speaking countries, in general Spanish grammar is hard but not impossible, good luck!

It might seem difficult but Spanish learners have a big advantage over English learners: Pronunciation rules never change, there are no contractions and there are only five vowel sounds. The only thing more difficult is picking up slang and words used in certain regions.

Gender and gender agreement might be very challenging for a native English speaker to memorize once their vocabulary starts to grow considerably, and not to mention conjugating verbs (especially irregular verbs) in 18 different major tenses can be quite a headache for most people, even native Spanish speakers.
I've always said that Spanish is an "easy" language to learn the basics to, but not at all an easy language if you want to learn it _well..._
Add to that the enormous variation and richness in vocabulary from country to country....it truly is one of the coolest languages in the world!

The reason why Spanish can be spoken so fast it's because of two reasons:
1. The very simple phonetics. Unlike English which has like 20 vowel sounds Spanish has only 5 vowel sounds. Nothing more than that, so the speakers can accelerate the pronunciation because there is less space for misunderstanding/miss-hearing.
2. The pronouns declination. In Spanish a Verb will never repeat its form. What I mean by that is that for example in English you say "They run" and "I run", so the verb doesn't change most of the time. In Spanish the verb ALWAYS changes for each pronoun, and also for each tense (Spanish also have more tenses than any other language I know, at least 7 on the top of my head and we use them all), which allows the speaker to focus less on intonation and more on grammatical forms to be precise about the idea to be transmitted, hence allowing the speaker to make less pauses and keep the speed. This is why many people think we speak like a Machine Gun.

Entonces mi consejo es: lea harto y escuche más.

Pero para trabajos , comunicación con persona que no conoces , gente mayor , entre otros , se habla formal , e incluso se llega a notar el acento que tenemos .

It depends of the area, I am Spanish and I know my language is difficult, and it’s even harder when you try to understand certain people with different accent (don’t you dare to visit Argentina If you are afraid of quick speakers LOL), and we constantly use abbreviations in the south of Spain. When I study English (I even have some English videos in my channel as a way to improve my skills) is more difficult to understand people from rural areas of UK instead of people from big cities. English and Spanish are both the most used languages around the world so they are worth to learn.

Estoy aprendiendo francés (el español es mi lengua nativa) y me sentía frustrado porque sentía que los franceses hablaban rápido. Así que busqué "fast spanish" y me encontré con este vídeo. Me hizo sentir un poco más tranquilo saber que otras personas tienen el mismo problema con mi idioma. De hecho me sorprendió mucho saber que, de hecho, el español se habla más rápido que el francés.
Así que llegué a la conclusión de que no debemos sentirnos tristes: aprender un idioma nuevo es un reto para todo el mundo. Yo juraba que mi idioma era súper fácil y ver este vídeo me ha demostrado que los problemas que tengo con el idioma francés los puede tener un francés aprendiendo español.

As a Spanish speaking individual, I am really suprised at how English speaking people find Spanish hard to understand. I mean, Spanish have IMO a clearer pronunciation, we have just 5 different sounds for our 5 vowels, the same combinations of letters are always pronounced the same way... the only hard thing is grammar. On the other hand Spanish people have serious problems to understand English because the amount of different sounds English vowels have depending on the word, in example, an inexperienced English learner mistakes words like "eat"/"it", "heat"/"hit", "sheet/shit", and so on... Sounds we can't tell apart. Besides, there's that laxity of English pronunciation: same combinations of letters result in the most random pronunciations... so when you come across a new word you can never know how it is pronounced. And do you really think that Spanish speakers speak faster than English speakers??? Really?? English words are ALWAYS shorter than Spanish words!
He’s not talking about pronunciation, which I can see that English might be more difficult. He means that it is difficult for learners to understand native Spanish speakers when they talk at a regular speed. It sounds like many words are merged together and sounds are dropped, and the language is spoken at a very fast speed.

@ Conatcha there are a number of things in Spanish that we don't have in English. 1. verbs heavily conjugate and as a result the pronouns end up omitted. In English you have to use the pronouns because verbs don't heavily conjugate as often 2. Estar & Ser both mean to be but yet are not the same 3. haber and tener both function as to have, but haber can tilt towards to be because it is an auxiliary verb (hay una playa = there 'is' a beach) 4. subordinate verbs in subjunctive form we don't need to spell change the subordinate, etc. Spanish grammar is long and the experts rate it as one of the fastest languages, and yes faster than English. I don't agree that English words are always shorter than Spanish ones. In any case, learning a foreign language is always a challenge in the beginning and for a while because we have to get our minds to accept different ideas and words that relate to each other in a different way. For the speed of English, it can depend. For example, here in Australia, city folk tend to pronounce more clearly and properly so it's slower, while country folk speak very fast and often the consonants disappear plus words are shortened (slang e.g. Servo = Service Station) or replaced by an expression (she's got a bun in the oven = she's pregnant). Why do we argue this anyway. It is what is. Enjoy the faux pas!

1,2,3 & 4 are about grammar. As I said before, the hurdle of Spanish for an English speaker is grammar, as it is for other languages as French, Italian, Portuguese, etc. About the speed, that happens in every language, polish language is always well articulated and clearer while "country folks" talk in a way that sometimes another native can't even understand.
I would like to know more about those speed rates you're talking about. I really doubt about Spanish being shorter. When I have to translate subtitles from English I always run out of space or I have to cut words out.
In any case, grammar is not the only hard thing. It's combination, speed, grammar and how you can play with subjunctive to bend rules and imply the most subtile meaning, etc. But, yes, English will have it's fair share of challenges. If you want to learn the more relaxed or country version of the language you'll have to live where it is spoken. In any case, I'm not interested in commenting here anymore. This is unbelievably boring. Just live it and accept that it's different.

@Erin That also happens in the tiny Germany. There it is normal that everyone can name dialects of German he/she cannot understand. And if a person speaks a hard dialect in the TV news or in a documentary it is mostly subtitled into standard german ("Hochdeutsch").

No te preocupes. Inglés es mi primer idioma y cuando escucho rap tengo que escuchar de nuevo (2 o 3 veces para entender las letras). There are just as many English accents as Spanish accents. For example I am from the Southeast US. I am said to have a drawl (es decir que cuando digo algo las palabras son largas). Ampliamos todas las palabras y usamos palabras que no existen como Ain't Y'all y finna). como la gente en República Dominicana cortamos las palabras también (bout time en vez de About time y whatcha doin' en vez de what are you doing y whereya goin' en vez de where are you going.). Just keep trying (focus on standard English with no slang) to learn and keep listening.

There’s Not too much difference between the accents of every country. But there’s a lot of slangs .
As a native Spanish speaker, I would advice u to not focus on the slangs because you’re gonna get confuse , for example:
Money=Dinero
EVery single Spanish speaking Country knows what “Dinero” Means same pronunciation seme spelling , But using slangs would be :
Mexico: Baras , Feria
Colombia: Plata
Guatemala: Pisto
Puerto Rico: Chavos
Venezuela: Chamos etc.
So don’t focus on the slangs learn that at last .

However, i’m dominican and i speak with a capital “word game” when speaking with friends, and a neutral “word game” when speaking with non-dominican Spanish speakers, so they can understand me better, which is different from me having bad grammar. A lot of Spanish speakers don’t apply/know neutral Spanish though.
En Mexico, o por lo menos de donde soy (Monterrey) decimos 'pisto' para hablar de alcohol y muchos dicen 'lana' para decir dinero en general y 'feria' para decir como cambio (monedas o billetes chicos)
In Mexico, or at least from where I'm from (Monterrey) we say 'pisto' when talking about alcohol and many say 'lana' to speak about money. Generally, 'feria' is used to speak of spare change (coins and small bills)
I agree that spanishs is so difficult but not in pronunciation, just in grammar and vocabulary bcs we have tons of words and each level of the lenguage has certain vocabulary and ppl talk different depending in for example what part of the city you are bcs of the social class ++ some words or phrases become a trend for a certain period of time. (Im from Madrid and we say a loot words like: "mazo", "en plan" etc)

At times it's even tough for native speakers of Spanish to understand each other. You're doing a great job dude
Even inside of spain, there are many diferente accents: gallego, catalán, asturiano, andaluz, vasco...
The ones from the south are similar to one another and so do the ones in the North ( also gallego, vasco and catalan are different because there are second languages spoken, modifying their accents).
i think the the spanish spoken is cleaner as you gte closer to the center of spain (even though it isnt perfect, as people tend to make a "z" sound in ending "d"s - Ex: madrid said by many of madrid citizens would be "madriz"- and "sk" sound into "h" or even "j" sound - esque would be ehque, and more like ejque as you go to villages or move ti the south")

Argentinian and Argentine are both correct but Argentinian is more common nowadays. Argentine is not that common anymore but, dramatically, it is correct.
