tiffsaver ikr, they should’ve all their bones broken and after that drown..... well I don’t want that to happen to anyone, but I used to surf and 4-5 Meter waves were so strong so big and so scary that it just makes no sense to me how they survive these kind of waves
Yea, Ive been slammed by a 6 or 7 foot wave a few times and had my world spun and crushed. I cant imagine how these men and women must condition themselves for this stuff. Unbelievable
Omar Al-Aziz biggest I’ve ridden was 13ft. Biggest I’ve wiped out on was that same day...13ft. It was powerful, but it mostly just comes down to staying calm, holding your breath, and enjoying the ride. The moment you panic, you’re done.
I never knew france could get that big. However I think the worst wipeout out of these nominees would have to be Alain at chopes, he got absolutely mauled, did like 1.5 headover heel spins down the face of the wave then went over the falls and got destroyed then as well. INSANE
I meant when you're out at your local and you get a 3ft set on the head and think wow that was massive, then come home and watch mad men like this, puts things into perspective.
I swam farrr outside to bodysurf on like 9ft'ers on a huge swell in SD comin from a storm completely closedout not surfable whatsoever. 14-15ft biggest sets of the day come in right after I get outside. man those things looked like they were ten stories breaking in front of me I was sure I was gonna die. I cant imagine how a 25ft wave looks like from the top or even paddling out. you gotta really train physically and mentally in order to handle those without dieing.
My fave is the dude in France scraping for the sky to make it over the lip..that was insane..cuz if he dosent clear the lip, he is getting tossed backwards into the abyss.
Ya man.. I'm amazed more guys dont get caught in bad spots more often. Not like you can make up that much ground if you're too far in.. and cant duck dive. Just crazy shit
It's scary to watch…but if you ever see these places first hand it brings it to a whole new level. Haven't been to France but that place looks crazy. What was that? Like a 50 foot wall with super strong off shores? You know when the winds are that strong you paddle in blind. You can't open your eyes cause the water feels like little needles spraying on your eyeballs. You stand, open your eyes, and see what kind of madness you got into. And Koa….dude….GNARLY! Riou's cartwheel looked painful. First he's gotta absorb that then deal with the hold down and following waves…yikes. I think they are all just freaking awesome. Hard to pick just one.
How are you supposed to survive that?! These guys probably spent a good 10-15 seconds underwater spinning like a sock in a washing machine and trying to figure out which way is the surface while fighting the current right after taking a huge wave-slap to the face! Manhood confirmed
+whitislayer Not a minute about 20-30 seconds they would probably die i know they can hold there breaths for up to 3min+ these surfers but with that wave smashing you around i dout you can hold it for a minute
That one at the end by Koa Rothman. Teahupoo. Nuff said. Ten foot lip girth, 25 foot wave, seriously hollow curl, high rate of speed, shallow reef.... Pfshh.... Cut it out! Even the other Teahupoo ridden by that local guy was insane. He got ragdoll'd at light speed. I saw him smack into the face at least five times in one second lol. That Belharra wave was sick though. That was base jumping with no chute. I cringed. Can't take away from any of the other candidates either....
Riding mountains is and amazing experience, the beating you get from not being able to maintain the surface, unforgettable. Why i crave more? Still breathing for the next memory of liquid bliss.
How long do they actually stay under. Should I push air out my mouth and nose when under or just hold it all the way through. Like I mean let bubbles out is that bad or
today i tested whats best for me its getting big in nor cali and found that just not fighting to go up and just wait until you are still helps me with not panicking which then causes me to feel like I have no air ahah
***** Yeah getting held down by a set can be brutal... The thing is, 30 seconds under a set is comparable to 2 minutes out of water. Then during that 2 minute breath hold, have someone punch you in your gut twice at 1 minute and 1 minute 30 seconds... That's what it can feel like if you're really in a bad spot. Remaining clam is #1
***** What you're describing is not anything like what is shown in these wipeouts. You're describing double overhead typical California surf (or similar), which is trivial if you know what you're doing. Mavs, Jaws etc. are obviously a whole 'nother world...
There is old film footage of deceased surfer Reno Abilero doing a backflip off his board on a 30 ft wave at Waimea Bay.The man, according to those who knew him, had no fear of the ocean. He died, tragically while free diving for coral in Hawaii.
+Attizzoso Dissaldato It's very black and you're spinning around Like you're in a washing machine with the force of a million men And you've got about 300 tons of water holding you. It's probably not plesant
Jamie Mitchell wins hands down, that was a fucking bomb and he paddled into it. The two guys towing in at Teahupoo should come in dead last. Yea it was a gnarly ass wave and wipeout, but towing in earns you little respect after watching 3 guys paddle into some bombs.
I had a wave that was only two or three feet overhead decapitate me and body slam me. I got the wind knocked out of me and it took the whole day to shake it off. I can't imagine what waves like that feel like...damn.
He drove directly into the most powerful breaking part of this wave. Hard to believe that humans can actually survive this kind of a beating...
tiffsaver ikr, they should’ve all their bones broken and after that drown..... well I don’t want that to happen to anyone, but I used to surf and 4-5 Meter waves were so strong so big and so scary that it just makes no sense to me how they survive these kind of waves

Jace’s Own World - Are you sure if wasn’t 12… or 14ft❔🤔
I never knew france could get that big. However I think the worst wipeout out of these nominees would have to be Alain at chopes, he got absolutely mauled, did like 1.5 headover heel spins down the face of the wave then went over the falls and got destroyed then as well. INSANE
Holy shit... give them all awards, multiple.
1:36 the guy on the left is climbing a vertical wall :|
I noticed that insane , near over the falls, horror show all of its own off to the side there too mate.
Yeah, I saw that. I wondered if he made it. Very scary.
A miracle he made it over the top and through but he may have been sucked over we just don't see it, lucky if he wasn't or eaten by the next one.
They all deserve an award.. legends
You watch this then the 3ft set you thought was massive doesn't seem so massive after all at your local haha
Those are big waves don't know wa ya talkin 'bout
I meant when you're out at your local and you get a 3ft set on the head and think wow that was massive, then come home and watch mad men like this, puts things into perspective.
Raughing outRoud i think he was being sarcastic :P
oh lol.
Tee Larkin Haha, only just got there too
+Tee Larkin oh man i was thinking that too. he must have shit his wetsuit in that paddle
+Tee Larkin he would've landed directly on top of the other dude too... close call haha
What is "the lip" and "the abyss"? :I
***** Are you saying my mom was a surfer?! O_o ...
Alain Riou did 2 backflips, he should win.
I've never seen Belharra firing like that. Jesus, that wave was beautiful!
Looked like a 60-70' wave freaking bomb.
That France Wave look scarier and bigger then Mavericks, for now I'll just surf baby beach by my house :)
XD.
I live in Teahupoo and I surf there brah.
@HZ_7 Savage. That's cool. My 3-year-old niece goes to Teahupoo for the big swells and paddles into barrels on an alaia.
Yea and live a few more years...
Man, I surf pipe every December. That's the edge of my limits, and I've been surfing 30 years (aged 7).
nr. 3 in France, the guy on the left paddling out just escape a much worse wipeout by a fraction of a second.
Stegiand yes how did he get through that ? I can just imagine his thoughts at the moment
+RoadKillzine its not fake
Ya man.. I'm amazed more guys dont get caught in bad spots more often. Not like you can make up that much ground if you're too far in.. and cant duck dive. Just crazy shit
Steve Cournane I know I’m 3 years late but his thoughts were probably PADDLW HARD AS FUCK
lmao ROZE ORBIT
Love the view of the french wave down low to give more perspective on how huge that wave is...
Looks huge on smartphone cant imagine in person.

Manhood confirmed
+Jedi Mind Tricks They can spend up to a minute underneath the water on waves like jaws, mavericks and teahupoo
+whitislayer Not a minute about 20-30 seconds they would probably die i know they can hold there breaths for up to 3min+ these surfers but with that wave smashing you around i dout you can hold it for a minute
On Nazare it can be 3 minutes.
Much more than 10-15 seconds... That's like a 4 footer at the wedge
PretentiousNoob I'm guessing you've never been to the wedge.
That one at the end by Koa Rothman. Teahupoo. Nuff said. Ten foot lip girth, 25 foot wave, seriously hollow curl, high rate of speed, shallow reef.... Pfshh.... Cut it out!

2:55 is heavy asf!
3:14 what nightmares are made of....props he just took it...!
The Teahupoo wipeouts are just nasty. Thickest heaviest waves anywhere by a big margin.
Scott Walker yea teahupoo waves are crazy and for me they are the most beautiful waves but the biggest and insane waves are in Nazare Portugal
The right and shipsterns are pretty heavy too
I think The Right is gnarlier, personally.
Riding mountains is and amazing experience, the beating you get from not being able to maintain the surface, unforgettable. Why i crave more? Still breathing for the next memory of liquid bliss.
just shut up ,please!
bro do u even surf>
surf bodyboard bodysurf dive been a pro lifeguard most of my life bro!
2:15 was absolutely nuts that guy was spinning like a fidget spinner wooooow
More than ovios... Alain Riou...second to last one... Absolutly ate it....
Insane! You got to be physically, mentally, and spiritually tuned or it could be the last wave you ever wipeout on.
They're all heavy - but I think the heaviest is the last one at Teahupoo. How someone can even survive such a beating is mind boggling.
Mavericks is in Half Moon Bay not Santa Cruz Santa Cruz is much further south, Half Moon Bay is just past Pacifica on Highway 1
The surfer lives in Santa Cruz.
that last one was outrageous, one of the scariest waves ive seen
The sheer violence of the wipeouts at Teahupoo put them on another level.
XXL Balls to go in such monster wave!!! Respect !!!
The camera angle on the Australia wave was perfect.

Me: Visible Confusion
and no one has yet come out with a footage of the actual riding of these monster waves, unbelievable!
MAN That wave at 1:30!!! MONSTER!!! All these are ridiculous crazy
Did all of these wipeouts survive?
How big is that wave off France? That's amazing. 1:32
Man this guys have some huge balls! The wave at Teahupoo is such a thick mass of water with reef underneath. Props to them!
You just wipe out and that's it .... no time to think about bubble's or barney or else !!!! Obviously you are not a Surfer .
***** Yeah getting held down by a set can be brutal...

Been there done that in like 12 foot surf , and you have a point ... only on big waves ... but true ... Getting caught no fun ...
***** What you're describing is not anything like what is shown in these wipeouts. You're describing double overhead typical California surf (or similar), which is trivial if you know what you're doing. Mavs, Jaws etc. are obviously a whole 'nother world...
I've had 4 foot waves give me a proper pounding. I can't even imagine.
Thank God I'm experiencing these wipeouts in the comfort of my armchair.
They should have each guys time they spent underwater posted after the clip. It would be interesting to know.
Captures the perfect spot in time NOT to fall.
How bout the guy in the water in the last clip filming. That alone impresses me.
Yes. Biggest waves are in Europe: Belharra Reef, France and Nazare, Portugal. Ask Mcnamara :)
How big is a wave like this in meters?
What gets me is how these guys can even ride waves at all. I mean, those massive nads must get in the way some how.
There is old film footage of deceased surfer Reno Abilero doing a backflip off his board on a 30 ft wave at Waimea Bay.The man, according to those who knew him, had no fear of the ocean.
He died, tragically while free diving for coral in Hawaii.
nr. 3 is the freakiest. Look how high the wave height climbs up to!! - 1:33 slowly but surely!
God be with us
2:40 Is them RIP ?
if you search for alain riou on google, you will find the article on surfline dot com where he gets interviewed, so i would say no
Did they survive?
BELHARRA 1:33 es una locura, pero lo más increíble es el tío que remonta la pared al lado de Jamie Mitchel...!!!!!
libraría??
Uhm, I am pretty sure it's AGAINST THE LAW to post a surf video with no music...wtf??
The Koa at Sunset wipeout was epic. 😂
How big was that wave Jie Mitchell ate it on. Looks massive, a record breaker.
No mention of Bowdies wipe out in Australia? Click bait
I would say Riou
My vote- last clip.
Koas wave is the most beautiful Teahupoo ive ever seen,,gnarly
The sad part is he could have made the wave? He just wasn't ready!!! Always be ready in the waves like this!
It’s hurts just watching it...unreal !
whats happen inside waves like those?
+Attizzoso Dissaldato It's very black and you're spinning around Like you're in a washing machine with the force of a million men And you've got about 300 tons of water holding you. It's probably not plesant
Been there done that.
On some three foot sets
Did everyone of these guys survived ?
Awesome.. I wanna come back as a SURFER.
The Tahiti one. HOLY SHIT HOW THE HELL ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE THAT, you would almost hit the reef depending on the tide!!!
Holy sheet! I can't even imagine surviving any of those situations. F wow!
I think this video was brought to us by Billabong XXL.....Just a guess :-p
It took 6 years for someone to comment 😂
that Aussie wave at 1:40 is huuuuge!
Jamie Mitchell. Hands down.
yes, brave-courageous. thumbs up.
Just to ride over the top of one of these giants is absolutely terrifying
Mr. Rothman won, I assume.
I had a wave that was only two or three feet overhead decapitate me and body slam me. I got the wind knocked out of me and it took the whole day to shake it off. I can't imagine what waves like that feel like...damn.
How did you type that without a body?🤔
@@davycrockett8293 how did you type this without a brain snowflake?
Teahupoo is so heavy. How on earth do they survive those terrible wipeouts? The other waves were gnarly too! These guys have major-league brass balls.
Koa Rothman hands down.
1:51 WOW that's scary!
How do people survive after this?
That Belharra wave still is the scariest thing I've ever seen. The stuff of nightmares...
he's alive?
Sunset is in Hawaii BTW
Wow I did not know Australia has waves that big! Damn.
the10thleper theres no Aussie wave here bro
Factor this in, every six ft square of water mass = 1 tonne.
That last one was a bomb
I think all these wipe out clips would have much more _impact_ at normal, real life speed
Not to be confused with some of the biggest wave nominees. - just sane.
The guy in France paddling onto that monster - no jet ski!
How is this a contest clearly 4 was the gnarliest.
2:20 GHOLY MOLY
Common Rage Black Diamond. Check out the song friends!
Surfer of the year... that's a pipe dream. But wipeout of the year... I just might pull that one off.
How fn deep was that last left at "chope"!!!! He's lucky he didn't die in that Satan Pit ☯️
no way out, it hurts to watch
belharra just amazes me everytime
พี่ลา
last guy copppppped it
Long board pra surfar essas big waves?!Seria melhor com as pranchas menores, pois dariam maior velocidade e manobrabilidade!!
Having surf and being tossed 3-4 feet wave feels like forever being sucked under the water, let alone monster wave (15-25ft) like that!
Ray J Come on that's a bit of a over-exaggeration
Well, i'm talking base on my experience as a beginner
That Koa one.......dang
Scary sh*it!
👍👍👍😎😎ㅇNice VD
