Two door would be better. 4 door looks like a smaller hummer.

exactly, there is a bunch of guys out there who simply would buy a wrangler based pick up, for leisure , sport and also as every day commuter ... a 2+2 seater is more than enough for the majority of us ! What I need is a truck bed, long enough to load my dirt bike; I personally do not need four detachable doors, and a short bed, that makes only 30% of the total length ... besides, it looks out of proportions ! But I can tell you exactly why they kept the 4 doors configuration ... it's all about cutting costs ... and once again, they do not listen to the buyers !

I worked at the Jeep factory for 3-years at a time that the Pick-up was introduced, I'm here to tell you what a nightmare this truck was.
Some of us bought this truck right off the line, in six months they were being returned because they were such a LEMON! They had engine problems, shake so bad you lost interest in driving it, major drive-line problems. Rust ate these trucks up, I worked the paint-shop, the primer dipping process was leaving bare spots and then the sound-deadener was applied over the bare metal, rusted-out in a year. Glad they're gone, maybe these new ones will be better.

Comanche was a great truck for it's day and also one of the highest output for the size. Personally, the 4-door has more appeal and utility than a 2-door, but to each their own. The compatibility with the new JL series of accessories for customization just cements the appeal. Ford will not be able to garner the aftermarket support with the new Bronco that already exists for the Wrangler. Looking forward to seeing it in production, and unlike a conversion kit, it will come with a warranty.

I towed a 24' self-contained camper with it. The Comanche pulled it with no problem. The 4.0 liter inline 6 had tons of low
      end torque.

    • @redtra236
      @redtra236 5 років тому

Yeah 2 door long bed is the best in my opinion. 4 door long bed is ok until you need to get into a tight area. 4 foot bed is useless for most hauling applications. Extended cab long bed is a good compromise.

You did an excellent commentary here, showing the history of the trucks! I owned a 1988 Comanche metric ton with posi-traction, 2WD, 4.0 litre w/ 5speed manual. Mine had a strong aftermarket pushbar that I installed, and I had an accident in wet weather, when I rear ended an Olds Cutlass. The whole back end of the Cutlass crumpled up like a tin can, and there was absolutely no damage at all to the front of my truck, that just amazed me!
The new Jeep truck will be an instant hit, in my opinion, but so will the new Bronco , as well, so I expect that they will do very well with it.

    •  6 років тому +6

If they would build a J series WORK truck. 4x4 Lockers front and rear, 350 hp/450ft/lb torque, 20 mpg, 2500 payload, 15k towing, pw, ac, pdl, ps, 4w disc brakes. Sell it for $20-25k. Don't make it a $50-85k grocerie getter for yuppies. They wouldn't be able to make them fast enough.

I'd love to see a solid half ton Jeep truck. But FCA almost certainly wouldn't want to cannibalize Ram sales. And I wonder if they've been out of the full size game for too long to succeed in that segment. The Japanese have far more recent history and they still don't really compete with the Big 3 in the half ton class.

I sold Jeeps from 1989 - 1999 and the Trucks were always popular... My favorite was the Eliminator package in Colorado Red.. Very good trucks and BTW they should revamp the 4 liter straight 6 with dual over head cams vvti and direct injection . it would be a screamer.....and still get good mpgs. The 4.0 straight 6 was and is the best engine they ever had.. Lots of power, torque, and good mileage.

FINALLY !!! The Gladiator was a fantastic truck. The Scrambler was also a great truck. The Commache has all the potential of the Cherokee. It just came out at a time, and went away leaving only the Cherokee. Which has now exploded in the off road world, from what was at one time just a urban suv. So, it would be great to see one decked out with a roof rack, topper on the cab topand roof top tent on top of the topper, spare tire rack on the back, nice lift, 33 or 35 inch tires, .....nice overland vehicle setup. Perfect for any outdoor adventure. Nice Clea practical build up. Not a rock crawler or mud slinger, just a great all around capable truck.

I saw three of these out for high altitude testing in Colorado last week in Summit County. They were disguised, but not so much that you couldn’t recognize it. The one I got the best look at appeared to be a four door. Based on what I saw it would be more of a sport truck for camping/hunting 4x4 than a true heavy duty work truck with a short bed.

True, but you're not buying the same car/truck as you could back in the day. Piles of cash go into all the luxuries that are now standard as well as all of the safety improvements. My first truck cost less than 10k in the mid 80's, but it had rear drums, no ABS, no airbags, no power windows or door locks, no remote key, no carpet, had a bench seat not buckets, no headliner, didn't even have a radio. It rolled off the dealer lot with 2 options - auto trans and a cig lighter which was a $15 option and I didn't smoke but was handy to plug other stuff into. I'm in the market for a new Ram2500 and the stickers are higher than my first house cost... crazy.

He’s right though. Early 90s, a basic mid sized pickup was comparable to the cheapest cars. Cheapest cars these days are what,12-14? What’s the cheapest truck you could possibly get? I think the canyons/Colorados start at 21 or something. Inflation has not affected small trucks in a good way.

I would buy one. I currently use a 4 door chevy s10 and am ready to get something new, this would be perfect. Love the rugged look of it.

Anyone who has tried to put a suitcase behind the seat of an extended cab usually buys one with a door. Those who have large pickups envy those with the smaller versions because they just do not fit in the spaces provided. Looks like the Scrambler might be a winner.

I can’t wait for the new Jeep truck, I own a Jeep Wrangler that I absolutely love and i wish it had a pickup bed for hauling stuff. I was looking at conversion kits but if the new truck is coming out I will wait and buy it.

like your truck, I have given up on Jeep selling trucks all the past hip and no truck. I owned a Jeep Patriot and decided to get a truck
so I purchased a Toyota Tacoma great truck with lots of history and long lasting.

Love the Comanche! I had an ‘87 Comanche Sport that I put almost 270,000 miles on, but had to get rid of it because it wouldn’t pass smog in California. If your Comanche has a Peugeot transmission (like mine had), there is an issue that crops up with the 4/5 synchromesh-I always had to double-clutch it when going back and forth between 4th and 5th gears. Annoying, but it was nothing serious. I’m glad to see the return of the Jeep truck! Hopefully FCA won’t back out this year...

Neo Auto... at first the video seemed like 'click bait' to get viewers to watch, and I almost left the video, but really glad I didn't. Really nice job here with a summary of Jeep trucks. I didn't know half of that history. I'm in the market for my first pick-up. While I love the new JL Wrangler's, it lacks the utility I need, so the Scambler might be the one for me... we'll see. Again... nice job. This was a very good piece of work!

Yea man I dig your Mj. I never appreciated them back in the day..I think they are gonna become supper popular over the next few years as we have seen with the rise in Cherokee value. Maybe the limited selection of what’s left could hold em back but that’s it. And even if they do make a new truck, they will still be popular, especially with people on a budget who, like myself can’t see paying 40k for a Jeep!

Trucks has been evolving and getting a bit hefty, but some people wants the the smaller version easy to maneuver and easy to park and still haul things to and from - this might do the trick!
