    Information About the Film
    ---------------------------------------------
This was originally part of the Manga Sekai Mukashi Banashi series and might have aired in Japan around 1977 (one date I've found says December 8th, 1977, but I cannot confirm source.) It was dubbed into English under the title World's Greatest Tales. Some episodes of the anime were also released in English under Tales of Magic. Not much else is known about the anime itself. Fred Ladd was one of the early adapters of Japanese cartoons such as Astro Boy and Gigantor.
    ---------------------------------------------
    About the Video
    ---------------------------------------------
First, I'd like to credit AnnainCA who had originally uploaded this cartoon onto UA-cam years ago. I was made aware of this from their video and the English audio in my video is from hers (though edited by me to reduce noise).
My video itself would have been impossible without Curiouser and Curiouser who informed me that there was an Italian DVD, for combining the Italian video with the English audio, and for editing in the English credits. His Alice channel is here: / @curiouserarchive
And additional thanks to Christopher Sobieniak for additional information and for supplying the original uploader's name (which I had forgotten).
Also, it's interesting to note that the original cartoon has a short opening cut out of the English dub in which a hand takes the book out of the bookcase and we see an illustration of the Rabbit and of the riverbank before it transitions. I had wanted to keep it, but there was no equivalent English audio to match up. We decided to go the easier route and put in the English credits instead. I do sort of wish we tried anyway so if I ever track down better English audio, I may redo this and keep the intro in.

    Animation Credits
    Music by Koichi Sugiyama
Produced by Yuji Tanno and Hiroshi Inoue
    Directed by Sodao Nozaki
    1981 Orient Film Associates
    English Dub Credits
    Presented by BFA Educational Media
    Produced by Greatest Tales Inc.
Written and Directed by Fred Laderman (a.k.a. Fred Ladd)
*Nickelodeon Opening Inquiries: The original upload by AnnaninCA featured an 'Orange You Glad You're Watching Nick' bumper and I know many viewers were fond of it. We thought it best to take it out as it wasn't part of the cartoon itself and Nicklodeon is still an operating channel with copyright protection. If anyone really wants the cartoon with the bumper, I still have the original AnnaninCA video on Dailymotion, but it's not high quality. dai.ly/x1zv0t7

According to Japanese WIkipedia, the scriptwriter of this episode is the late Takeshi Shudo, creator of Minky Momo and the original head writer for the Pokemon anime.

Well, I'll give it one thing, this is certainly one of the more unique interpretations of the story I've come across, and the artwork is beautiful. I don't know why they scrambled the order of things so much, though.

I have to admit, this version kinda rushed a few things in the story and all and given that this is only half an hour it comes to no surprise they had to cut a few scenes.

IMDb and Letterboxd say that Alice is voiced by Debbie Reynolds. It doesn't really sound like her, but obviously that doesn't mean she hasn't put on a voice for this. Can anybody confirm this?

The guy who voices the narrator here is the same guy who voiced the title character in the English dub of "Superbook".

I’m still trying to find more episodes of that series that had been dubbed in English, some with a different narrator. I know their Sinbad and Ice Queen adaptations had been dubbed in English.

    Though, two questions:
    1. Who voices Alice in this version?
    2. Why couldn't Alicevs tears just cut to the tears flooding the floor?
    Also, P.S. to Phantomwise
    The UA-camr's name is siglesigle.

1.) I haven't been able to find any voice credits at all.
2.) I can only imagine it was artistic license. If they couldn't animate it, it certainly would have been easier to cut to the tears on the floor already.
? I'm sorry, I'm not understanding why you're bringing up siglesigle?

@@Phantomwise2 are they any versions of Alice with Dirty Blonde hair like the John Tenniel illustrations of her in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland?
also did you know that Alice’s dress color is actually white because of a stage production from 1886 the author ✍️ Lewis Carroll intended on that color.
also on something called Alice in Blundered Alice’s hair is elbow length.
another fun fact on something called The Wonderland Quadrilles Alice’s dress color is red.
Lewis Carroll authorized Biscuit tins advertising the second book Through the Looking Glass and what Alice found there on those Alice’s dress color is royal blue.
another fun fact John Tenniel the illustrator of the Alice books watercolered Alice’s dress blue on something called Alice in Bumbleland.

Other episodes of this series also saw an English release, though through another outfit that titled them "Tales of Magic". Several episodes like Thumbelina and Gifts of the North Wind use to show up on Nickelodeon's "Pinwheel" series.

Christopher Sobieniak, thanks so much for commenting with your information!
I have to admit I don't know much about the original series. I collect and share Alice adaptations so I only focused on this particular episode. I hadn't known that they were also released under "Tales of Magic." Do you know if the Alice episode was also released under that title?
I also had no idea it was on DVD in English! And here I went through the trouble of buying an Italian DVD and replacing the audio. Would you happen to know the quality? I'm curious as to whether it's better than mine. If the audio's better, it'd be a great improvement. I may buy it one day in the future, though at the moment, I can't justify a purchase when I don't know if the quality's better. Additionally, thanks for the original uploader's name! There would be no English audio if it wasn't for them and it bothered me that I couldn't credit them properly.
The video description will be updated with the new info.

Phantomwise Do you know if the Alice episode was also released under that title?"
I'm not sure if it was. The average "Manga Sekai Mukashi Banashi" episode was roughly 11 minutes long (2 episodes/stories per half-hour episode), this episode was basically a 2-parter when it aired so it might not have been dubbed by the other people (which was headed by Jim "Force Five" Terry, best known for having put out videos under the "Kidpix" banner). There was over 200 episodes in the series BTW. According to this fansite, this was episode #77 and first aired December, 8, 1977.

I don't know about the audio quality of that Phoenix Learning Group release as I haven't bought it myself. I'm sure it probably doesn't sound too different from what Nickelodeon aired in the 80's. There's also apparently a list of 14 titles they offer under the banner "Classic Stories Retold" that seems to be a combination of MSMB and some other series produced by Toei Animation separately.

Christopher Sobieniak, thank you again! What you posted was very valuable.
In particular, thanks for the broadcast date. I maintain a list of Alice adaptations in which I like to list the broadcast dates, but I didn't know the date for this.
Visually, the clip of Phoenix's the Ugly Duckling was discouraging as it was low quality and after going through the clips of their other MSMB titles, they seem the same quality. The audio is not great either, but it is better than AnnainCA's original upload which had A LOT of buzzing. When I find my earphones, I'll have to do some closer listening to see if they're better than my edited version of AnnainCA's though. If I think it's even slightly better, I'll buy the Alice DVD. Additionally, at least the English credits might be better quality than the one in my video (also from AnnainCA's). I know most people would think my current video good enough, but I'm a perfectionist ^^' and I try to upload lesser known Alices in the highest quality available.
Out of curiosity, are you knowledgeable about anime in general? I have a few anime Alices that I haven't been able to identify and I'm trying to find out if the Toei Animation Alice was ever dubbed in English.
      Thank you again!

Christopher Sobieniak, ah, I was talking about Anime Sekai no Dowa which was made by Toei in 1994. I've seen it mostly in Italian and once in Portuguese, but never in English or Japanese. Here it is in Italian if you're interested (ua-cam.com/video/-zV08iSuzKY/v-deo.html).
But the anime you mentioned is also an interesting case in that it's completely released on DVD in good quality in some countries while I believe it isn't in Japan and only a few English episodes were released on VHS tape. I also haven't found confirmation for whether it ever aired in the US. Anyway, recently, someone put more English episodes for sale on Amazon Instant. If you're interested, my friend uploaded them onto UA-cam here (ua-cam.com/channels/Q1ksjGLwD0YNN0OzBUzClQ.htmlvideos; episode 21 is missing from Amazon as well). If you're interested in the whole series in good quality and don't care which language it is, I know some good French torrents.
Other anime Alices I know are Video Anime Ehonkan Sekai Meisaku Dowa (dubbed into English by Saban as Funky Fables: ua-cam.com/video/XN8mIirVxaI/v-deo.html), a video by a company I assume is called Eehon (short version in English: ua-cam.com/video/PYJmnBNizeI/v-deo.html), and this (ua-cam.com/video/p8_HYUHenyY/v-deo.html). I can't make sense of the description through Google Translate on that last one so I have no information on it. There's at least another I don't have any information on, but I have the video and it just occurred to me that it's not on UA-cam at all so I'm probably going to upload that some time soon.

It's a Japanese telling of an English story. They were depicting Victorian England. Similar to how American Disney made movies depicting a Chinese story with Mulan.
Also, while I am definitely not knowledgeable about Japanese fashion history, I do know Japan was forced out of isolation in the 1850's and later some Japanese people adopted Western fashion. However, most of the art/pictures I've seen had Late Victorian fashion (like the 1880's) so 1860's may have been too early for most Japanese people to wear it, but not impossible.
