Welcome to this beaded chain link tutorial - a perfect DIY jewelry project for beginners. I will take you step by step through the process of making these beautiful wire links for necklaces etc., and how to add beads to elevate your jewelry pieces.

Materials you will need:
1mm (18g) copper wire
Flush Cutters
2 x chain nose pliers
6 step pliers (or round nose)
6/0 seed beads
1mm x 5mm copper jump rings

I love this link design! It would also be great as a base for a ChaCha bracelet. To date I haven't needed anything less than 20gauge wire. Obviously I was incorrect. Tomorrow I will oorder 18 gauge in a few colors. I recently broke my predominant shoulder. My Orthopedic Surgeon and my Physical Therapist said working with wire and pliers could be beneficial. My right arm is definitely weaker than ever. Wire-wrapping is fun and not boring as many of the PT exercises. I can work on creating links while writing for various appointments and tests. @samanthalatimer1 at first the Egyptian coils were a bit hard, but the more I do, the easier they get. It's a matter of not giving up. Even if you think you can't do keep trying because before you know it you're doing it. Just something I learned from my dad. He says, " I can't), isn't in our vocabulary. And I'll let you know how I do with the new links too. They look so beautiful!!!!!

This is a pretty link. If the wire you are using is softer, what about hammering the links after they're formed? Thanks for sharing with us.
I think if you hammered them afterwards, they would distort too much. You can hammer the wire gently with a nylon hammer before you start to use it, which will work harden the wire a little. I’d probably try that with softer wire. Hope that helps ☺️

Very pretty . I didn't have my sound on while watching so I thought I missed the end point, so I went to transcript and still didn't see how you finished it. Being a total beginner I am wondering how one would close it around your wrist. What do you recommend? There was nothing listed under materials need, either.
Also could i use 18 ga. Silver wire ?

You can absolutely use 18g silver wire… it would look beautiful 😍 You can use whichever clasp you prefer to close the necklace/bracelet and I have a little video showing simple clasps, if you’d like to watch that one. It’s so funny isn’t it! My kids are ALWAYS finding beads where they shouldn’t! Haha 😀
I use large resin coaster molds as my "cups." The big ones that make huge coasters with curvy sides....theyre nearly flat with enough border to hold the rollies; making pick up easy, with or without long nails. A set of 4 isn't much on Amazon. While not the intended purpose of the purchase, I use em every day for this. 99% more than I use em for making resin coasters. 😂

I am very new to wire and wonder if you could recommend a type of wire that would be inexpensive to learn on. Thank you so much, any help would be appreciated.
Welcome to the wonderful world of wire ❣️ Aluminium craft wire is very affordable to practice with but it’s very soft. So you could use that initially to get used to how things work and then progress to the copper wire or craft wires. Are you in the US? Here in the UK, wire from smaller craft stores can become quite expensive on the smaller reels, so I’d advise finding a store that sells larger ones, which can work out less expensive. I think, online stores like Fire Mountain Gems are more affordable. Or, I’d try and find an online company who specialise in wires for industry. I buy from The Scientific Wire Company here in the UK and they’re great. Also, try and just buy a couple of sizes to begin with. Most of my tutorials use 1mm (18g) so I’d start with just buying one or two sizes to keep the costs down. Hope that helps ☺️

Hi Samantha, what can I do to eliminate the rough ends of my wire cuts. Am I using the wrong cutters?
Having a really good and sharp pair of cutters really helps. But for now, take a little metal file, or a nail emery board, and gently file the sharp edges flat, before you start bending your wire. Hope that helps ☺️

Can I use welding copper to make jewelry?
@@tonillanes1505 ooh that’s a good question. I haven’t used electrical wire for mine, but I don’t see why not. It’s literally just bare copper wire, so I’d think it would be ok, and cheaper to buy, I’d imagine. Obviously, don’t take my word for it, and maybe have a look online for advice. But I don’t see why not ☺️

Hi again would it be possible for you to give the sizes on your 6 step pliers ? I've found several brands but the loop sizes range from 3mm up to 10mm on one pair and 2mm up to 9mm on another. Thanks so much.
Hi there. Mine are 2-9mm. Some brands are super specific and will quote 2.9mm to 9.9mm etc., but the 3-10mm will be fine. Hope that helps ☺️

Hi Samantha. I hope you and the family are doing well. I've made the links and I love them. My only problem was that I didn't have any little beads that would fit on the jump rings. I came up with putting them on head pins and making mini charms out of them and hooking them onto the jump rings that way. It's not near as pretty as yours, though, but I had fun doing it. Can't wait for your next video.

Hi Samantha, I just subscribed to your channel and I love the way you made the necklace. As I was watching I knew I had to remember how I was to link the component together with the jump rings. I noticed that the links looked like a little fish. Then I knew how to do it. The tails hook up to each other, and the heads link up together. Easy pezzy. 😊

Is bare copper wire sold through beading stores or hardware stores ?
Are you in the US? Here in the uk we can get it online at various places but I’m sure in the US, it’s available at both hardware stores and craft stores.

Hello 👋 The jump ring is 5mm, made with 1mm wire. I use half hard mainly, as it’s better for stability. And thank you! I always think my accent is awful lol - it’s actually a west Lancashire accent ❣️

I have had the hardest time starting out. Any leather or string I buy will never go through a bead. The hole is too small for a lot of wire but a 20 gage wire is so soft my work bends and crinkles with the slightest touch. Do you suggest making holes bigger with stone at pearls? I have endless supply’s but I can’t make one thing because of hole sizes or string not rigged enough to go through. I love the thought of making jewelry. Are there some people so bad at this they shouldn’t start. Do you tell what time of wire to use each time? I do need the help. Thanks
Hi there. I do say at the beginning of each video, the wire I use so hopefully that will help. It’s always an issue getting the right beads to fit the wire etc., but you’ll soon get the hang of it. String, and cord and leather etc., is mostly going to be a little too thick for a lot of your beads but you should be ok with 18g and 20g with a lot of beads. When buying beads, always check the hole size (which they should tell you in the description). If you want to invest in a bead reamer tool, that’s also a good idea… they work to increase the bead hole size a little and can be a great tool for you. I really don’t think some people are just bad at bead work… it’s really just a case of just keep going in the beginning ❤️ you’ll soon pick up the tricks and tips and you’ll get hooked.
Did you happen to mention the size in millimeters the plier diameter is? I don’t have this exact plier but do have many like it. I’ve tried several, and can’t quite nail that down. It would also be a helpful measurement for those who are using regular round nose pliers. Maybe you could put it in the tool list? Thanks for any help.

Hi Samantha, I love this chain. Is there any thing you put on the wire to keep it from tarnishing or adoyou get wire that is tarnish resistant? Thank you.
You can use tarnish resistant wire, or you can use bare copper and treat with something like Renaissance Wax to stop the tarnish. Or, if you prefer aged copper, you can treat with liver of sulphur 🤗
HOLDING the BRACELET STILL while doing a closeup so viewers can see it clearly would certainly help.

Samantha, thank you so much for this great tutorial. I am a bead weaver, but I think I can do this. I do have a question. I am not a fan of copper. What other wire can I use, and what gauge would I need?
Ooh that’s a really good question. Is it just the colour of copper you’re not keen on? If so, you can get some beautiful gold and silver plated copper wires, of the same gauges, which look gorgeous. I’d try those. Or, you can get some lovely craft wires, again of the same gauges, but just make sure they’re half hard… soft wire will not suit the kind of pieces shown here as they won’t be stable enough and make pull apart when wearing.
I love a bit of bead weaving too! Although my eyes are starting to struggle with the Delica beads 😀

How do you keep the jump rings from opening after you get each made and put together? Wouldn't it come apart fairly easily.

The jump rings are made with 1mm (18g) wire and then work hardened with a tap with a nylon hammer. They tend to be pretty robust under normal conditions. Obviously, if you really tugged, they “may” open but I’ve never had that happen. Hope that helps ☺️
