- Ellen Covey is a scientist, writer, artist, orchid grower, perfumer...a fascinating personality, to put it mildly.
She was kind enough to let me visit her studio in Lynnwood, Washington one afternoon, and this was the result.
Olympic Orchids perfumes can be found online at
orchidscents.com and the plants at olympicorchids.com

Love this. This is the kind of perfume content that feeds the soul.
Wow...that's the kind of feedback that makes these projects worth all the effort. Thank you.
What a beautiful Micro Documentary! I am a Laboratory Technologist, and I find both the science and the scents that Ellen has produced to be fascinating and intoxicating. Thank you, Ellen, for everything and for keeping your fragrances affordable ❤
The story of real people making real perfume. I loved every second of this! You are, indeed, a film maker!
Well done!
Olympic Orchids is a shining example in perfumery. Anyone worrying that there isn't anything new under the sun left for fragrances just has to look at the house for what's possible.
Salamanca and Night Flyer, for me, are pedestal fragrances that have become personal joys.
Thanks, Andy. There's so much cool stuff happening right now in the world of independent perfume, and Ellen is indeed one of those people doing great things.
i totally agree with your comment. i've been so used to the niche stereotypical smells, and OO really opened up a new flair of scent library.
i absolutely love olympic orchids, it's the kind of perfume I always used to wish existed. the wet cherry blossoms scent (sakura) is an absolute revelation. you can practically smell the spring rain hitting the earth.
This is value. I have a big ethical and moral problem with Perfume, but that doesn't mean I don't love it. In general, I would never spend the large amount of money large brands are charging for their fragrances, nor the most famous niche brands. The thing is that most launches are so vacant, so empty. This is a great example of craft, artisanship, meaning, and how it becomes art. I´d be proud to hold one of these beautiful pieces someday
What a creative soul. Bat and night flyer was a great fragrance. The only one I’ve tried from her. I should try more.
Thanks for sharing this, Galen.
I highly recommend blackbird and tropic of Capricorn. And maybe the fizzy honey one depending on the person. Golden cattleya. And maybe Marais Gras. Night flyer blows the new bat from Zoologist out of the water in my opinion
@@itskyyuuuu thanks for sharing those recommendations
Glad you enjoyed it, Rudy. Thanks!
What a lovely person!
This was fantastic, Galen! Thank you for putting this together.
Awww, thanks, Tara.
Finally going through all my Olympic Orchid samples this week and just found my favourite!!!! OSAFLUME!!!! SO PRETTY LIGHT SWEET AND AIRY!!! I love it!!! ❤
Thanks Galen. She looks like a person with great personality and character.
Thank you. And yes, her personality shines through in this video!
Love it! I could've watched hours of this.
Ellen makes amazing perfumes with big love and her perfumes are my big love. Thank you Ellen❤️❤️❤️ from🇪🇪
I love Coveys work, even more after I've seen this video. Thanks
An absolute banger of a video. I love her. Blackbird 🔥 night flyer 🔥tropic of Capricorn 🔥
Thank you so much for this beautiful video. I have loved Ellen's fragrances since I was immersed in the world of indie fragrances. That was ten years ago now and still her things are the ones that touch me and my soul the most. I know almost everything by Areej le Doré, Bortnikoff, Prin, Sultan Pasha, MGO... but Ellen's scents are in a class of their own. It's a pity that nothing new has been released for a long time.
What a beautiful little film, thank you!
Wonderful. I love her creations, I smelled a lot of them and own Blackbird and had Olympic Rainforest. I especially loved her interest in making them accessible and not exclusive, a strong statement, in my opinion. Great work, Galen.
Agreed--her stance on offering many different sizes, all at reasonable prices, is a refreshing change of pace. Thanks!
fantastic!
Naughty Galen, did you laugh at ‘dusting off my golden pear’ because it sounds like a euphemism? 🙊
Brilliant Galen. Your videos are so fantastic, your aesthetic is a welcome relief from the UA-cam Fragcomm bullshit.
Well done you. ❤
no I did not, you pervert.Get your mind out of the gutter. Oh, and thanks for your nice words! I am the true arbiter of fragcomm.
wow this was cool, we are so lucky to have her!
Thanks Galen, that was great!
That was so good, sharing to my crew.
Always admire Dr. Ellen, but after seeing this interview even more, thank you
It was a pleasure to spend an afternoon with her. Thanks so much, Samuel.
Very nice...I didn't even see this one posted until just now. Very interesting. IMO, most perfumers don't start out to be perfumers...just an interest, that turns into a passion, that turns into an obsession, voila! Of course, I dabbled around to know how difficult it is to create something good, something interesting, and yet marketable...and without a fragrance hobby becoming too much like a friggin' job. So you have to enjoy the business and marketing side as well..and not get frustrated by failing far more often than succeeding.
My missus has been growing orchids for decades (since a child) but there are so very good orchid perfumes out there. I'll have to check-out this house. Also noticed Ellen's turquoise jewelry...collecting authentic turquoise pices is also another one of my wife's passions. Cheers!
Fantastic work, Galen. You’re a treasure in this weird sphere called UA-cam. Enjoyed every second of this.
Whoa, thanks! I like doing these projects, especially so for all the great feedback I get from folks like you.
Great, as always!!
This film made my day... thx... :)
This was great 👍 , thank you
She's awesome. Like Michele Lamy lite! Discovery set purchased!
Fantastic.
The best scents I've ever tested.🎉😊
Great video, I really enjoy her work. Must say I am a bit sad that your work has been privated as I really liked your work as well. Came looking for some of those colognes you used to talk about a bit and was a bit sad to see your stuff gone. But I found this video so it’s not all bad. Hope you’re doing well.
Galen, such a unique style to your documentaries, I enjoy them immensely, I really need to check out Ellen’s work. Thanks for bringing it to our attention 🙏
"Class, instead of going to the box factory today, we'll be going to the..........box factory." 🤓 Damn UA-cam, it ruined my imagination, just like it ruined my ability to......to um 🤨....ehhhhh...oh well. 📺😆 Can't escape your brilliant filmaking Galen. Ellen's work certainly has character. 🍐 A true perfume house!
Many interesting and important things have been put into boxes over the years...
One of the few things I miss about uploading regularly are your comments. But not enough for me to stop being lazy. But thank you.
I love her work. Bat was my first exposure, but goodness, Chevalier Vert and Blackbird opened my mind up to a new kind of fragrance.
Indeed, she makes some great stuff! Thanks, Chelsea.
Great little film. I want smell everything.
So much to choose from! Thanks, Lynn :)
What a wonderful video ❤ wholesome content. Love this
Never thought of it as wholesome, but...yeah...it kinda is. Thanks, David. I'm delighted you loved it.
Another great mini documentary, Galen.
Thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
Such and awesome lady 💓
Fantastic video GALEN!
Thanks!
@@theaetherealist I just ordered a sample set from her.
I’m in Tyghvalley Oregon, are you in Portland?
I am in PDX. I had to look up where Tyghvalley was! That's a lovely part of the state :)
What happened to all your old videos?? Did you remove them from You Tube?
Great documentary. I love Night Flyer. My favorite from Olympic Orchid. It is amazing and to me it smells like drinking Lilt juice in a cave. Totally tropical :-D
Thank you :). NightFlyer is indeed excellent. My choice would have to be Woodcut, though there is probably a good 15 others I haven't tried.
@@theaetherealist I really enjoyed the sample of Woodcut, too. It has been a while but I remember liking it.
Hi mate, where is your ambre eternel video! It was zo passionate, zo amazing i cant find it anymore ;(
❤👏🏼
Whatever became of the video where you pull from hiding places in your house all the fragrances your wife abhors? The deadpan delivery was so good!
Hey, where is Ol' Stumpy been? I pinged him a couple months, but haven't seen him post in ages. Cheers!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ CONTENT MY G
What an awesome video and awesome woman. Do you think for your next video you can cover who Jeremy is dating or maybe your top five most attractive fragrance reviewers? Thanks
She is super cool...so many good moments in our conversation ended up being left out. Oh well...Thanks, jermssssssssss.....
Also I vote for your channel to be changed to "Galen Bangs Hard" because that's what I think every time I see your name haha
Thankfully, this is is not a democracy.
𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐦 😆
Why did you decide to remove your fragrance reviews from the channel?
