- Arnie was an American disc jockey in the Boston radio market from the mid-1950s to the 1970s. Throughout his top-40 career, Ginsburg was regarded as a credible voice for reaching the teen audience. It was said of him that airplay on his show could make a record a hit. Record companies which asked him to do commercials often saw increased sales. This was the case for such records as "Roses are Red" by Bobby Vinton and "The Monster Mash" by Bobby (Boris) Pickett. Ginsburg also reported his weekly "picks" (songs he believed would become hits) to trade publications such as Billboard magazine. As was the custom in top-40 radio, record companies would bring up-and-coming singers to do guest appearances, which further helped sales. Among the local stars Ginsburg promoted were The Rockin' Ramrods and Freddie Cannon. Cannon subsequently recorded a promotional song for Ginsburg, "Arnie Ginsburg, the guy with the swinging show." Ginsburg was also known for his record hops, dances that were held at local venues; he often hosted them at the Surf Ballroom in Nantasket Beach. After his on air experience, he became involved in the business side of radio as a business manager, president and owner of WVJV-TV, and later as an executive with Pyramid Broadcasting and program manager of their Boston station WXKS/1430.

As a young boy in Labrador I listened to “WooWoo” Ginsberg on my tiny transistor radio many nights. I fashioned a wire antenna which I strung around my bedroom which enhanced the reception. This was before the introduction of television service in our community. Great entertainment!
Woo Woo on wonderful WMEX. I'd keep my transistor radio under my pillow.
Quelle époque j'adore
Arnie on WMEX Greatest ever on my six transistor radio every night it was on.
Meet the Monkee's was the very 1st album ever to come into our home .
My Father worked with Arnie Ginsberg at WMEX Boston.
Another great segment, Eileen! My first memories of rock music involved Arnie Ginsburg and other DJs at WMEX. I was just a youngster then but well aware of his shows in Nantasket, where our family spent the summers back then. The station was piped into Paragon Park. You might say that this guy was partly responsible for my lifelong love- make that obsession- with hits of the '50s and '60s. Thanks again!
We used to drive up from New York to Maine and stop to sleep over in good old Boston. The first priority for us kids is to tune up to WMEX and listen to Arnie this outrageous nervy voice which we instantly KNEW was the top dj for sure. Even the commercials with the Three D's for a clothing store and of course, Adventure car hop. All super memories
LOVE this Eileen !! As always, great job ...
