i actually had Joaquin (Mr. Z) as my English teacher through out my of my high school time. He was funny as hell, and an amazing teacher. I still have the signed poetry book he made my senior year.
this is STRONG. i'll always be proud of where i came from, and although there are many problems still within society...and people will always be people...there is kind.and i'm just holding on to that hope.and i'm glad that although we seem to be going backwards in many aspects..we have yet come far.
@ludicrouslyCOOL YES, not alot of people know that there is a Lynchburg, Va and the way I found out was I was doing college apps and I applied and got into Lynchburg College that it really occured to me the name of the school and where it was. Though I went to the school for a visit, the school paid, I couldnt shake the feeling that I really wasnt wanted there and so when it was done I got outa there. And though I'm not black, native american, I get chills over that name and I'll never go back.
@trina1126 The San Joaquin valley is not named after Joaquin Murrieta it is named after SAN JOAQUIN or in English SAINT JOACHIM who was the father of Mary, the mother of Jesus!
@ludicrouslyCOOL I agree, to hear stuff like this is why me and my friends are trying to get ethnic studies in our schools. So we can hear more of REAL relevant history . u knw ?
Lynchburg tx, is named after Nathaniel lynch. Who founded the town by having a ferry there called lynch's ferry. Not for any reason other than that. But thats not saying I don't respect this guy or poem. Its moving and its very true things that happened in the past were both profound and terrible. Just saying
i know this man personally. i go over to his house all the time.
he's one of the most incredible people i've ever met.
I have had the pleasure of performing with Joaquin on several occasions..he is truly an awe-inspiring person.
