      @@docreverb Not that smart imo. I've seen Gackt play he really uses PSI Magnet to move around and that's cool to watch, in this match up it would work great. Awestin just used a natural counter to bombs, there's nothing to praise here. I'm still more impressed by how aggressive Fow plays. But Awestin's style is rather classical and safe imo, which is less interesting to watch in the end.

    Some thoughts/take-away from this set:
    - Awestin is hands down the best Ness in the USA (Not to discredit but he slightly above both FOW and JTails). Not only in Ultimate tournament placements but also is a cut above other Ness players in terms of movement (rivals Gackt), execution, recovery and adaptation. He has placed 1st or second place 3-4 Ultimate Shockwave Weeklies, 1st in Xanzy’s Dreamland, and 4th at Ultimatum (1st in doubles w/ Jayson). If he has the opportunity to travel more, I am sure he will continue to place well and raise the bar for Ness players in NA.
    - People are sleeping on Ness big time and tend to place him lower on their tier lists because of his recovery. Even though he does have some glaring weaknesses (most notably shorter range, bad match-ups and recovery) he also has received a huge amount of buffs this time around. His aerial game is nuts and with magnet stalling he has some of the craziest movement options in the game. Furthermore, he has a legion of kill options and reliable set-ups.
    - MVD’s Snake is really a fantastic thing to watch and IMHO at this present moment is slightly better than Ally’s Snake. His set-up game and reads are really on another level. He is really pushing this character to new unprecedented levels and showing how effective Snake can be even when facing strong counterpicks. Just a brilliant player overall and I hope he has great success in Ultimate (if he keeps playing the way he does, he is a strong contender to be the very best in the world).
    - That being said… Not to discredit MVD (because we all know no ordinary Snake is going to execute this well and look as clean) but anyone who thinks that Snake is not in the top ten needs to pull their head out of the sand. The shear amount of options this character has (not to mention the ability to execute on said options) is quite staggering. Nikita is currently the best ledge guarding tool in the game, grenades are great for blowing up approaches and stuffing combos. He has a decent kill moves and absolutely oppressive suffocating set-ups. Like every character, he has faults and some troublesome match-ups, but, quite honestly, when played at the level of MVD, it is hard to see how he could be anything less than top ten. His kit is just too good and people are really struggling to consistently nerf his recovery. The amount of damage he can output is wild.
    - One small thing to note: Both MVD and Esam have mentioned that their other roommate is a Ness main. I’m not too sure who that person is but I’d imagine he is no slouch. So, MVD went into this match-up with a lot of knowledge beforehand. Awestin played a great set and managed to keep his composure throughout the entirety of the GF set. Kudos to both players and thanks to the folks at USW for the upload.

    The constant tension leaves me trembling at the end of this glorious set. As a longtime Ness player, watching Awestin do his thing is like performance art. Knowing how hard it is to do half the stuff he's doing, I can't even fathom pulling it off with that much pressure. This is the best set I've seen yet - I think the slower more methodical pace really lets you see the skill of both players and the mindgames at play.

      @niccolovanible1001 6 років тому +5

      I doubt he’s a top tier. Sword characters are way too good plus other projectile characters like Young Link and Toon Link are gonna prevent him from being top. His recovery is way too exploitable.
      With that said, his strengths have been buffed so much that it really shines through. Characters like Pikachu, Snake, Inkling, and Pichu (characters many seem to think are also top/high tier atm) Ness does well enough against to balance out sword characters being so bad for him.

    • @stormcutter59
      @stormcutter59 6 років тому +4

      @ArT oF wAr If you thought this was good watch Fow, hes an even better Ness than Awestin in my opinion. And hes a top player, his exploitation of Ness' bluffs are ridiculous. Hes absolutely insane. As for the Top tier thing he could be. Ness has so much potential in this game it's not even funny. However I will say he still has a disadvantage against projectile and zoning characters. With the removal of power shielding it's harder to get in on someone who's good at spamming projectiles. However his movement options with the down B make him much more mobile than he ever was so against zoners and sword characters he definitely has better matchups against them overall. This is the best version of Ness by far. I'm happy to main him.

    Hot diggity, that set was hype af. I've watched many smash matches and this one was for sure one of the best. So many twists and turns like you don't know who's gonna win the game. I was so nervous for awestin and was rooting for him the entire time. Great game!!!

    • @supavids4eva
      @supavids4eva 6 років тому +3

      Ness hasn't changed much between Smash 4 and Ultimate, he still plays exactly the same. If anything, he's just gotten a couple of new tools to make him better. Maining him in Smash 4 basically means you'll have a very powerful main going into Ultimate, and that means Awestin really only had to adapt to the new gameplay mechanics.

    22:55 that surprised all of us I'm sure
    For someone who hates playing Ness for his nasty PK fire and thunder shenanigans, I gotta say both Awestin and MVD played pretty damn good. This was so great to watch, and commentators were actually hype, which is understandable considering Awestin is the Smash hero of Texas.

    It's crazy to think that at 22:54, if MVD spot dodged or evaded at the right time not only would he come back from losers with a 3-0, but Awestin would have dropped the whole tournament with an uncharacteristic SD at 0%. This man is nuts.

    • @niccolovanible1001
      @niccolovanible1001 6 років тому +2

      Depends. Smash 4 had a few factors as to why Ness fell off. People learned to fight him and exploit his poor range and gimpable recovery plus Ness didn’t fair too well against characters like Sonic, projectile users like Toon Link, Lucina, or Marth. Ness still had some relevance but then DLC came and both Cloud and Corrin wiped Ness off from the metagame.
