@@docreverb Not that smart imo. I've seen Gackt play he really uses PSI Magnet to move around and that's cool to watch, in this match up it would work great. But Awestin's style is rather classical and safe imo, which is less interesting to watch in the end.
@@re.n8208 Awestin used it for movement too though, though mainly for stalling his recovery/landings (for mixups). Sometimes it absorbed and helped with movement at the same time, it's just versatile
@@Hedgpig not at all, just that in all smash games you cannot SD by jumping through the top blast zone, but any hit while up there counts as knockback and you instantly die. For example, put on a bunny hood, jump off the top, and have someone throw a smoke ball or super weak item at you. You die instantly. Ness is just unique because he can reach you anywhere up there.
Nah. Ness is just a massive counter pick to Snake. The fact he barely won by a match that's in his favor like that kinda shows he's not even close to MVD's level. It really only came down to the character picks. Ness literally counters everything Snake can set up
Some thoughts/take-away from this set: - Awestin is hands down the best Ness in the USA (Not to discredit but he slightly above both FOW and JTails). Not only in Ultimate tournament placements but also is a cut above other Ness players in terms of movement (rivals Gackt), execution, recovery and adaptation. He has placed 1st or second place 3-4 Ultimate Shockwave Weeklies, 1st in Xanzy’s Dreamland, and 4th at Ultimatum (1st in doubles w/ Jayson). If he has the opportunity to travel more, I am sure he will continue to place well and raise the bar for Ness players in NA. - People are sleeping on Ness big time and tend to place him lower on their tier lists because of his recovery. Even though he does have some glaring weaknesses (most notably shorter range, bad match-ups and recovery) he also has received a huge amount of buffs this time around. His aerial game is nuts and with magnet stalling he has some of the craziest movement options in the game. Furthermore, he has a legion of kill options and reliable set-ups. - MVD’s Snake is really a fantastic thing to watch and IMHO at this present moment is slightly better than Ally’s Snake. His set-up game and reads are really on another level. He is really pushing this character to new unprecedented levels and showing how effective Snake can be even when facing strong counterpicks. Just a brilliant player overall and I hope he has great success in Ultimate (if he keeps playing the way he does, he is a strong contender to be the very best in the world). - That being said… Not to discredit MVD (because we all know no ordinary Snake is going to execute this well and look as clean) but anyone who thinks that Snake is not in the top ten needs to pull their head out of the sand. The shear amount of options this character has (not to mention the ability to execute on said options) is quite staggering. Nikita is currently the best ledge guarding tool in the game, grenades are great for blowing up approaches and stuffing combos. He has a decent kill moves and absolutely oppressive suffocating set-ups. Like every character, he has faults and some troublesome match-ups, but, quite honestly, when played at the level of MVD, it is hard to see how he could be anything less than top ten. His kit is just too good and people are really struggling to consistently nerf his recovery. The amount of damage he can output is wild. - One small thing to note: Both MVD and Esam have mentioned that their other roommate is a Ness main. I’m not too sure who that person is but I’d imagine he is no slouch. So, MVD went into this match-up with a lot of knowledge beforehand. Awestin played a great set and managed to keep his composure throughout the entirety of the GF set. Kudos to both players and thanks to the folks at USW for the upload.

Sorry
TheRyanNeighbor I didn’t mean it in offensive way, I just thought it was funny. You did great, with all of the amazing plays I probably would have been hype as well. I’m sorry
@@ethanherzing3395 no offense taken! I understand it was probably a well intended comment, you're all good! I've still got some things I'll need to work on moving forward regardless, it definitely wasn't a bad thing to bring that to my attention haha
Does anybody know if Awestin has social media or twitch!? LIKE ANYTHING. I want to follow this legend
I would LOVE to see Awestin VS Ally, because Ally is my favourite Snake ever!
Can someone explain why it was best of 5 but there was so much more games? Also great win awestin for Ness mains!
In grand finals the person on the winners side has to lose two sets to lose the tournament.
Extremely fun matchup to watch! Great showcase of each character from each player!
The power of the Jeff Goldblum shirt is strong.
the most skillful and intelligent set ive seen yet so far
This set was amazing on both sides. Props to both of them!
that last game was insane
31:25 ayo awestin, pull up your pants
awestin has always been a beautiful ness player, my fav, maybe the best
What a great match. I thought mvd was guna take it but awestin was playing out of his mind. Ness could be a good counter pick for snake. That was truly a legendary smash ultimate set.
I love how this is the Grand Finals and one of the dopest sets I've seen yet there's still countless people in the background not giving a shit
How exactly does the nikida get deactivated?
You can just press the shield button.
These commentators are great who are they?
That set was fucking insane. This is what top tier zoning looks like, MVD setting examples for Snake mains
Holy shit, both sets had me on the edge of my seat. They were both so aggressive in their plays, it was awesome.
that one pk thunder through snakes dash attack for the game was insane lmao
Every video I've seen with Austin in it is just how awesome Austin is
Lucas Ness & Co.
since when is hagrid playing smash?
Man, those were amazing matches. Good job, both of you guys.
WHAT THE HECK Awestin's on fire
How the hell did he do that?
This match has set the bar for all matches in 2019. This was magic!
Edit: WTF!
This was such a hype match-up. Keep up the good work.
MVD is one of my favorite players to watch, and Awestin is an amazing Ness player
You have to come back to this set every year to remind yourself how good awestin was before he retired
Such a great grand final
Awestin’s play style is so dope. Definitely best in the game hands down!!
This was such a great set, great job to both the players!
i didn't even know psi magnet could absorb snake's explosives.
Unlike Smash 4, I don't see Ness falling off.
Depends. Smash 4 had a few factors as to why Ness fell off. People learned to fight him and exploit his poor range and gimpable recovery plus Ness didn’t fair too well against characters like Sonic, projectile users like Toon Link, Lucina, or Marth. Ness still had some relevance but then DLC came and both Cloud and Corrin wiped Ness off from the metagame.
This character matchup is made for the flashiest mixups I’ve ever scene god DAMN.
Best set I've ever seen
down throw to up tilt is confirm??? at what %?
How do you enter these tournaments? I think I can win these easily, but never knew how to enter. Someone help a brother out I want to show everyone how good I am
Wonderful grands set that was extremely entertaining I must say Awestin is a much better Ness player then myself but I think he could really benefit from using more pika flash it’s an underrated move that sends the enemy flying
Its problem is that it’s easily punishable and it’s slow (for obvious reasons)
