@@andrewgrabham4666 When you mentioned catalogues it reminded me that QR codes can be automatically generated during the data merge process. This can be a fantastic way to generate a bunch of QR codes. Just in case it might help :)
The qr code i generated appear with small squares which makes it hard to scan if i zoom out of the document. Is there a way to edit the look of the qr code?
QR codes resolution would never be a problem as they are built with boxes, that is pixel-shape. You can have it as a PNG and resize it as big as you want.
I generally recommend keeping vector content as vectors for as long as possible. That way you can resize to literally any size and maintain crisp edges. Only convert to pixels (raster) if you have to. Resizing a pixel based image such as a PNG may result in fuzzy edges. While it may still function as a QR code, it may look terrible as a design.
You can easily copy an InDesign generated QR code and paste it into Illustrator while retaining the vector paths. This may be the better program to make your edits. I suggest you do some research into how much of the centre of the code can be safely removed. Of course be sure to test the code after any alterations.
Hi Michael, is this a dynamic QR code? Once printed and out in the wild am I able to change where the link goes to if there's been a mistake or need for correction?
I haven't personally used them but there are services which can do this kind of thing. Your QR code points somewhere and that somewhere can be changed to redirect to different places.
Is it possible to change the link that the QR code directs to without changing the physical QR code? So if the QR code is being used other places, you can change the link in InDesign and then that QR code will go to the new web destination?
Question: I have an Indesign file from a client in which the QR codes are showing up as grey boxes. They show up as missing links in the Preflight panel, but do not show up at all in the links panel. How do I fix this?
I think the following video might solve at least part of your problem. Let me know if you are still having issues... Stop high quality images from pixelating inside InDesign ua-cam.com/video/6DWfMTO-wQc/v-deo.html
Can I upload a PDF file in the QR code? I looked but couldnt find any options and I dont want to pay to a third party website when i already have an adobe account.
QR codes can certainly contain central images and I've seen plenty of demonstrations of people overlaying logos over existing QR codes. However, I don't know enough about this topic to know what will and will not affect the scannability of such codes.
InDesign QR codes just point to whatever you want them to point to. InDesign (or Adobe) don't have any tracking functionality attached to this feature. You could, however, find a third party service that offers such a feature and point your QR code to that. That third party service could offer analytics, redirects, etc...
Personally, I would save the file in Illustrator as an AI file. Within InDesign, I would then place the Illustrator file into the document. Any future changes made to the Illustrator file would be updated within the InDesign document.

Excellent. Thank you.
What options does Indesign have for tracking data on how the generated QR code is being used?
None. InDesign is just generating the graphic. There are web based services that can do this kind of thing.

Is it possible to generate a QR Code with both an email and website in it without having to make separate ones?
Not that I know of. Users may actually prefer separate codes so they know what they are scanning.

Fundamental info that you'd expect to find in a tutorial...
Not sure if this message gets to you - Can you put a logo in the middle of the QR code at all?
You can. However, I don't know enough about what can and can't be removed from a QR code before things start to break. Best of luck finding an answer.
Thanks, Super useful! Do the links generated expire after a certain period of time or they work forever?
Thanks Valentina. It will work as long as what the link points to is still active.

This is not something InDesign can do. You would need to employ the services of a company that can offer redirects for a QR code.
@@MichaelBullo Oh ok, thank you! Do you happen to know of any such companies :)
@@alisonlangford2157 Sorry but I have no personal experience with such a service.

I don’t believe this is possible by default. Perhaps there are plugins that could help. Good luck.

Hi Beril. Upload your PDF to anywhere you like on the Internet. Copy the URL for that file and use it to generate your QR code.

This isn't something I've tried to set up. I recommend posing this question on a Google Analytics forum. Good luck.

This is a STATIC QR code, where you can't track or edit the info later on. A DYNAMIC QR code you can do these things with the help of a 3rd party.
Good summary. Cheers.
