I've done some filming and recording with music groups I was a part of. The filming process is pretty tedious. Three minutes here, stop, reshoot, go back and do it all again. I can relate. With a huge production with acting and heavy CG effects would not be fun. Some people enjoy it and want to make it their life's work. He seems to be ok with never doing it again. If something comes up, fine, if not it's not a crime. That show was huge. He should have been more interested in why it was so popular and gotten more into the books. I understand some actors playing characters from books don't give a flip about that kind of thing. They don't need it to play a role. He was really good playing Joffrey.

It's amazing how often actors playing villains are pretty level-headed IRL. I guess playing a character who is going to be universally detested either requires or fosters a good dose of humility.
Two items I noticed from an interview with Mr. Gleeson: He stated that the work on Game of Thrones reduced his passion for acting. That makes doing that type of work very difficult because of the artistic interpretation an actor has to provide to properly display the character. Also, after bringing to the screen such a heinous persona, and doing it sooo well, I suspect some distance would need to happen before he could even consider another role. I would hope with his talent he might rekindle the passion for acting and perhaps go on to stage performances (theatre), which are far less tedious than TV and movie productions.
as way less of an actor-level than joffrey, i resonated with this. i felt like i wasnt being myself and just kind of grew out of it. started enjoying my own personal life rather than the rep and attention. it can be overwhelming...i mean for him, it would be like what i felt but x10. especially because he'd have to deal with hate because of people hating him as a character. it's commendable how he was able to manage and instead of reaping the fame (like his character would), he instead just wants to live a normal life. i hella relate to and respect that. what a goat.
Must have been a lot of effort to finish his role to the end when he realized very fast this kind of job isn't for him. Mad respect for him to play his role with the same lvl of passion as Heath Ledger did with the Joker.
1:41 I know this isn't the same thing, but when I was at a horse show there was a TON of waiting around, so I understand why he hated it so much. Being in a show for less than five minutes, do your lines, then leave, then wait around some more. I understand it so well.
Gleeson seems like such a chill dude. I’d love to be his friend tbh; he seems like the perfect guy to sit down and drink a cup of tea with and just talk lmao.
The original children didn't know half the show in the first few seasons. Maisie had once said in an interview that her mum didn't even allow her to read the whole book, just read out some parts of it and she didn't know the other storylines at all, initially
He one of those legend actors. An actor that can make millions off people mad with his ACTS and just hate him so much because of that role, stans to be one of the legends talented actors. But he was like "Shit im too nice and the role made me look so bad peace" But pretty sure every other industry who wants the most horrible villian in film wouldve wanted him badly and i dont think he wouldve wanted that He so sweet in rl man.❤
"Disposable" single-use actors of high talent are ideally what EVERY production and EVERY role should comprise of in order to attain the maximum amount of "suspension of disbelief " amongst the audience. Most actors (understandably) want "careers, development, fame, fortune and longevity" ...however, so we (the audience) have to work that much harder every time we see somebody familiar being re-cast in a new role. Eventually, the "Sean Connery" and the "Michael Cain" effect kicks in. That's the stage where all the audience can see is "the actor" in question because they've become so well known and have played so many roles that you stop being able to believe that they're who they're now pretending to be. You can no longer suspend your belief with certain actors...(even though the examples I've cited are now dated..) So yes....Gleeson's philosophy is not only refreshing...it actually services the "ultimate" audience experience whereby an actor inhabits ONE very strong role....and then "pouffe"....they're gone, never to be seen or heard of again.
That is too bad, I found him to be an amazing actor. I think it would be very hard for a person to play a part like that, maybe it would be fun, but I don't think many people can pull it off like he did. I wish the young man well.
Money “doesn’t matter” *only* to people who have it. He simply doesn’t need to be filthy rich. But yes, he’d care if he didn’t have it. I’m guessing he received a lot of hate he won’t admit to. Because people are idiots who think characters are real. Had to be a turn off.
Good for him, I imagine the pressure from industry insiders for him to cash in on his fame by taking on more and more roles was enormous, so full respect to him for just wanting to focus on his passion projects.
I'm pretty confident to grant him the best villain of all time... There's no way to love him and that's an amazing achievement... Kudos for the bloke, he's chosing a quite and gratified life ..

Now I understand how he could play such a hateful and disgusting character so well. He simply projected his disgust of working there in to his role. Or at least that's what I like to think.
I see him out and about from time to time around where i live, he must live nearby. Never asked him for pictures or spoke to him at all. I know the show, I know his character but I never watched it all. I just never got around to it, maybe I should start over and get back into it.
I rewatched some scenes in GoT this week and I just laughed at myself for how much joffrey annoys me back then and until now. A very good actor indeed.
He did it so well that it came against him, all that people's hate towards a young fellow is something not easy to deal with. A villain is tough to be for an actor mostly on the best seller tv show and because of that, more support and recognition he should get

Jack Gleeson was bored and despised everything that was happening arround him.
This is the reason for his perfect play. He WAS Joffrey.
as way less of an actor-level than joffrey, i resonated with this. i felt like i wasnt being myself and just kind of grew out of it. started enjoying my own personal life rather than the rep and attention. it can be overwhelming...i mean for him, it would be like what i felt but x10. especially because he'd have to deal with hate because of people hating him as a character. it's commendable how he was able to manage and instead of reaping the fame (like his character would), he instead just wants to live a normal life. i hella relate to and respect that. what a goat.
He actually seems like a pretty cool person, of course i loved hating him in the show! lol
Must have been a lot of effort to finish his role to the end when he realized very fast this kind of job isn't for him. Mad respect for him to play his role with the same lvl of passion as Heath Ledger did with the Joker.
Nice...I hope he stays this way. Very refreshing to hear a successful actor who doesn’t take himself too seriously.
1:41 I know this isn't the same thing, but when I was at a horse show there was a TON of waiting around, so I understand why he hated it so much. Being in a show for less than five minutes, do your lines, then leave, then wait around some more. I understand it so well.
He was more into theater acting, so he went back to it
He was soo hated on Game of Thrones he received death threats. Obviously he was that good an actor 😂
Imagine if his local area didn't have acting classes...
Gleeson seems like such a chill dude. I’d love to be his friend tbh; he seems like the perfect guy to sit down and drink a cup of tea with and just talk lmao.
Honestly feel like half the cast didn’t know what Got was actually about or what was happening half the time. 😂
But he was like
"Shit im too nice and the role made me look so bad peace"
But pretty sure every other industry who wants the most horrible villian in film wouldve wanted him badly and i dont think he wouldve wanted that
He so sweet in rl man.❤
Its impressive that he could see past the potential money and do what makes him happy. Hard to find that these days.
Not caring about money is such an easy thing to say when you are rich
He played his role to good that’s why he left.
His acting was amazing in Game. Whatever makes him happy for his life I am happy for him. If he wants to act some more awesome if not awesome as well.
So basically he is the exact opposite of his character. Interesting!
You can no longer suspend your belief with certain actors...(even though the examples I've cited are now dated..)
So yes....Gleeson's philosophy is not only refreshing...it actually services the "ultimate" audience experience whereby an actor inhabits ONE very strong role....and then "pouffe"....they're gone, never to be seen or heard of again.
Humble, frugal, friendly, and uninterested in fame or respect. The exact opposite of Joffrey!
Smart kid ! He gains popularity by denying its importance.
Last time I saw him, he choked to death so I'm not really surprised we don't hear from him
His attitude about money and fame is perfect.
I'm pretty confident to grant him the best villain of all time... There's no way to love him and that's an amazing achievement... Kudos for the bloke, he's chosing a quite and gratified life ..
The first 30 seconds answers the question:
He just doesn’t want to anymore.
Save yourself 4.5 minutes
Sounds like something Joffrey would say if he was an actor in a successful TV show.
It's amazing how someone who is able to depict such a spiteful human being is such a modest person in real life.
IMO, he played King Joffrey so well, I totally hated the character.
I personally think he is a brilliant actor, to make so many people hate you so much is not an easy task.
We don’t hear from him cos he died in season 4 duh, smh you’d think these guys haven’t even watched the show
Joffrey actually survived. He moved to the U.S. and became our president.
ok dude didn't care at all.
You can watch his interviews & talks. He is a very kind & mature person.
So he got to be one of the most hated fictional characters on television in nearly a decade cause he wanted to have fun with it. Bravo.
New respect for this man. I hope he does whatever makes him happy. He knows what he wants, good on him.
I was surprised how accurate this was . Tbh I only watched the show because we happened to run into him when I went to the UK for vacation. I only knew he was because other people were telling me. I feel so lucky to have been introduced to the show in that way. Really cool dude.
He is a fantastic actor. He was by far my favourite villian in the show.
King Joffrey: "I want his head!"
"But sire, he's your actor".
Now I understand how he could play such a hateful and disgusting character so well. He simply projected his disgust of working there in to his role. Or at least that's what I like to think.
I actually loved Joffrey as a character. He was very entertaining.
A villain is tough to be for an actor mostly on the best seller tv show and because of that, more support and recognition he should get
That "hate" is just a rumour people refuse to let go of.
