Instead of cream of mushroom, can you use cream of chicken??? Not a fan of mushroom but would love to try this recipe if so….. hopefully someone can lmk on this before I ruin a dish. Lol thanks in advance for anyone’s input
That fat you drained from the meat isn't just fat, there's a lot of water in there, and that water has a lot of flavor. I would cook the meat on high until all the water evaporates and it starts to get all crusty and stuck to the bottom. That's great, brown beef flavor. THEN drain the fat off and cook it how you normally would.
My daddy taught me to make SOS but no soup. Ju see t ground beef, flour, and milk. Salt pepper and garlic powder! One of my favs❤ to this day! I’m 65…. Eat on toast or light bread. Or biscuits if you have
Pepper Belly Pete..... You are so handsome I could sop you up with a biscuit. I absolutely adore your recipes and think you are just fine as wine!!!! Keep it up darlin! Sending love from South Kakalacky!
Why does everyone drain out and waste the delicious hamburger fat?! I mean, I buy grass fed beef so my burger is amazing. But every time I see people cook ground beef they drain the fat... WHY?!
I grew up eating a lot of White Gravy over light bread. Mom fixed it for breakfast, before school, many times. People need to know how this is done it will not always be easy to feed your family. Thanks for this. And, it looks so good.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ i love ALL your recipes!!!! This definitely gonna make when my son comes to visit. He always goes to the stove lift top off pot see what mom made, thenwe sit at table and eat!!!!! Your a life saver!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
Shit on a shingle. Looks delicious. The problem I’m having later in life is time is going by so fast and my metabolism has slowed it doesn’t take me much to be comfortably full. I love cooking but eating has become a chore. 😔😁
i love that hat! the food look good but you forgot the chopped bell pepper with your onion. i personally use beef broth instead of milk but thats just personal preference. i really do like hat though, ive got get me a new one
Thank you for this simple recipe that will fill you up for a few hours, they fed this to us in school in the 70's and I loved it over mashed potatoes!!!
So a bit of advice, and take it if you want. Make a hole in the meat when it gets brown. Most of what you’re straining off is water. Not a lot of it is fat. If you keep cooking the meat it’ll get nice and dark brown, which is a ton of really good flavor. Add in the onions once the water is cooked off, you’ll tell the water is cooked off when it starts sizzling instead of hissing/steaming. If you cook the onions in that the dish won’t be greasy either, and if you want you can strain it afterwards like you normally do. :) But since you add in flour, don’t bother straining it! The flour will attach to that fat and will help the flavor of the whole dish. Like creole or French cooking, a good roux makes a good dish :)
My Grandfather was in the military and would make "SOS" gravy. THANK YOU so very much for sharing this easy recipe! I've finally satisfied a 55+ year craving for "S**t on a Shingle" gravy!
Back in the 1960s when there weren't no food stamps for single working mother's, ours made this dish at least once a week. Over bread, potatoes, rice or noodles. I'm gonna make it this week with an added can of mushrooms.
Try making it with jarred or enveloped brown gravy. Serve over whipped potato. Another version is to mix it into mac and cheese. And sometimes I add a can of diced tomatoes to the meat mac and cheese. Some pepperoncini peppers can make it sing.
Yes he did, if he hadn't I would have thought this is NOT PBP. I did wonder a bit when he said "let's drain the grease" if something was wrong with Pete.
Make the same way along with a splash of Worcestershire when adding the onion. Toast the light bread.
Add an egg to this meal and you have stretched this into a long time satisfier. Protein with the Carbs.
One of my favorite breakfast meals when I was in the Navy.
I make it the same way, but add mushrooms and minced garlic when I add the onions.
Good stuff!😁
That would be great over some cornbread!!! Great video as always ❤❤❤

If you cook the onions before adding the hamburger, you can avoid overcooking the hamburger.

Your method of draining grease is genius!
Cico
You didn't say let's get started.
Yes he did, if he hadn't I would have thought this is NOT PBP.
I did wonder a bit when he said "let's drain the grease" if something was wrong with Pete.
Observation: Thank God for another "hamburger gravy" video!
There was already 1000 on Y.T.
Your concoction adds willy-nilly-clueless ingredients.
