    Gorgeous. Maybe the best single instrument (for me) I've see y'all showcase. I am slightly mixed on those lugs. They're kinda just sexified tube lugs...but still an incredible snare.
    I've always wondered why bronze is barely mentioned in snare shell construction. Cymbals are made from bronze, so the musicality is already baked in.

    I totally agree on the 8 lug layout: I am not into super tight ("choked") tension, and 8 lugs are adequate. They simplify tuning, as staying in tune, as the greater tension per lug helps stop the lug creeping out with play. I really like everything about this drum design. Sounds very sensitive played "softly". But, personally, I want the "low" deep fat Tama bell bronze sound. You didn't mention if you played the Tama ?

    Nice snare! Kind of reminds me the good old tama bell brush sound.Just food for thought...what if (in feature videos) we could hear some matched grip playing variations on this snare drum spotlights just because the sound changes massively that way.I mean it's obvious that but... right now I can get a very good idea of how this drum sounds ,with a fairly range of dynamics by your playing and tuning ,but its not gonna be the same with a matched grip playing scenario.Its like someone hears someone to play an acoustic guitar he might wants to buy,but the guy who plays,only does it with a pen and never play with fingers.He gets only one side of it.Till this day I've never seen someone on UA-cam exploring the sound of drums in general like you do, but the traditional grip (in my opinion) just limits some of the tone horizons of the drum and especially on snare drums. Any way...thanks for all the amazing content you bring on the table...always your channel gives me a lot of inspiration

    • @SoundsLikeADrum
      @SoundsLikeADrum  2 роки тому

      Hey there! Curious what differences you’re looking to hear in a matched vs traditional grip comparison? I’ve heard a lot of people curious about what opens up in terms of articulation options when switching from matched to traditional but rarely the other direction! - -Cody

      @@SoundsLikeADrum Hey Coby!! I'm not looking for a this vs that kind of thing...how someone play its a very personal taste.Im looking to see a video with you playing for example with traditional and then switching to matched grip if that's possible.Just to give a different spectrum of sounds

    • @SoundsLikeADrum
      @SoundsLikeADrum  2 роки тому +1

      I hear what you’re saying, and I must say that after playing both grips throughout my career I really don’t hear a distinct difference between them sound-wise. Whether you’re primarily a matched or traditional grip player, if you have continuity of tone and dynamics between your hands, the choice of grip is more of a feel thing than a sound thing in my experience. That said, we do always perform the isolated drum demos with the right hand (matched-style grip) so the sound and tone in those instances is indicative of the sound difference (or lack of difference) provided by that grip vs the rest of the demos. Hope that makes sense and thanks for watching! -Cody

      That would be an awesome video to see from these guys! I picked a used one up not too long ago and it's honestly a great sounding drum, but very different from anything else I've played/ heard. Incredibly throaty but not as much resonance as a metal or wood shell, which makes for a great recording snare but maybe not the ideal pick for live/ high volume situations. That's just my take on it though, and from what I've heard each one can sound and feel vastly different.

    i have to say, that i'm missing two components to these videos.
    - i'd love to hear two different drummers, with different drum styles, play the same drums and tunings, with A/B comparisons.
    - i'd also really want to hear the kits in both the current, dry room, but also in a more reflective room.
    the reason is that, as a drummer and producer, i feel that the the most important elements of a recorded drum recaording comes from 1: the drummer, and 2: the room.
