Before Xdefiant was known as "Tom Clancy's: Xdefiant", people really hated on the game due to how generic it looked as this had Tom Clancy's name in the title of the game, in which it was milking his name to the grave in hopes of gaining some traction
That game is great now, it might not be the cod killer, but it is amazing with the last update. I hope another company buys it and takes over. It’s a shame.

Something to add to your analysis, some people had weird technical issues. A friend of mine plays on a laptop and the game had issues identifying his GPU and kept defaulting to his iGPU. No feedback was given on this issue and there seemed to be no clear fix. So ultimately the issues with xdefiant was its technical issues and overall ubisoft. I loved xdefiant but recognized it was still a hollow game. But if this game released earlier it mightve been able to pose some more competition. Xdefiant was announced almost a decade ago and released 2023.
Released earlier???? It was released too early on a game engine that was meant for MMOs. Always look to the suits. They force things for their benefit despite the product they're making, and they are released xdefiant too early to see returns on their investments. Titanfall and especially titanfall 2 was a genuinely amazing game and could have easily been a top contender for a call of duty rival, but EA decided apex had to be made to take a stab at the battle royale genre. Still hate EA for killing the titanfall franchise for that game

Contrary to popular belief the "class customization" aspect of putting an ungodly amount of attachments doesn't actually had depth to Call of Duty since everyone ends up making *the exact same class set up* on their guns. Which defeats the purpose of so-called depth and diversity in the game. BO1 & 2 didn't need many attachments on the guns to have depth. Ironically, the lesser attachments available the more depth the game has because the game depends on it and not what attachments on to be used on a gun. All in all, it is to say that if XD put more effort in the specialist-like abilities it would have been better than the alternative of 20 attachments on a weapon.
Suits released the game too early to see returns on their investments. They said development was finished for all year 1 and were moving onto year 2 development. 'Bomb' got pushed forward to then get pushed back. Pretty much no content. (Grinding is a biproduct of enjoying the game. No, im not an adhd give me content brain.. multiple og cods had playerbases for years without any content updates.) They listened to complaining babies. I highly doubt the devs and Mark Rubin overlooked these things... they just simply weren't able to due to ubisoft suits
People aren’t going to like what I have to say but I think the lack of SBMM played a part in the games demise. SBMM keeps casuals coming back. Hate it or love it SBMM is used in Cod for a reason- player retention.
To be honest people hating on SBMM are either streamer/content creators wanting to farm big kills matches for content,tryhards that want to abuse new players (cause the "but sometimes i want just a chill match and relax" is bs,if you are getting tryhards with sbmm is because you are tryharding) or people that have no argument and blame the game problems on it (without mention cod had softer or harder sbmm since bo2) Sbmm right now has it problems but removing it just make it worse
SBMM has to be one of the most interesting topics for gaming in recent years. There are so many arguments for and against it. But for XDefiants sake, they capitalized on that market to bring traction to their game (which clearly worked initially) sadly the game itself was mediocre at best.
COD players hate a wide skill gap. Sure SBMM could be better but even in a no SBMM environment, the moment bhopping and air strafing was starting to be understood in XDefiant they complained, and omni-movement complainers are kinda everywhere right now. I honestly don't mind SBMM. I'd rather not play in a lobby that is half filled with new players or bad players. But disbanding lobbies does kinda suck for casual play as it doesn't allow the algorithm to rebalance the teams so that you get a second try or more time playing around with people who are entertaining in voice chat or have a fun playstyle. Going from a fun fast paced lobby to one full of campers sucks. Bad audio engine, console aim assist being inhuman in certain scenarios and forced crossplay all dumb down the skill gap. Movement is the only real distinction tbh and even then it's a bit too forgiving in BO6.

I think cod is so weird for allowing even console players to plug in a keyboard and mouse and then ban it on CDL. Cod would grow so much if keyboard would be allowed in CDL not only in viewers and players but also skill will go up controller players will need to adjust to mouse opponents and we can really see the best cod players instead of watching the best controller players.
Big reason why fortnite is so populair is because the people know they can become pro and make money on both mouse and controller wich motivates them to play and even start playing. Now a lot of mouse and keyboard players wont even try cod because there is no competitive future for them.

You picked up on that because it's the center of CoD's controversy, almost no media outlets even mention it as a feature. Official ads definitely do not. XDefiant in fact advertised itself as an explicitly *competitive* shooter, with many non-players assuming it was more in-line with CS or Valorant. Some sources AFTER launch did say it was an "arcade shooter" a la CoD, but even then, it was primarily compared to CS or Overwatch 2 even. At best I can find places saying it has "low skill requirements" (I did actually put in the time to research this because I can remember nobody mentioning SBMM myself) and I can see that it explicitly HAD SBMM. It actually had it up until May 2024, and only dropped it then, announcing a shutdown only ONE MONTH LATER. The game was announced and advertised as soon as 2021, and you are acting like the lack of SBMM, the thing it removed for ***ONE MONTH***, was its biggest selling point? It was a last ditch effort to remedy an already dropping player count. SBMM does suck, and yeah it is detrimental to CoD's experience. Acting like XDefiant never had it and was proof that it isn't bad is really silly considering it had it and was hemorrhaging players up until it removed it, which active player counters show actually worked in slowing the loss. Really just comes off as you being in denial about it at best and just lying about it at worst.

I would have gladly played this game till it's shut down but unfortuantely, aim assits is so tuned up (probably due to the relatively high TTK) that you have little chance as someone who uses mouse

I've seen this complaint a lot, shockingly it didn't bother me. I don't see this as a "call of duty" type game so maybe it just depends on the mentality going into it.
I was basically forced to quit the game back when it came out I played 4 matches had a blast then after that the matchmaking just broke I couldn’t find a game and when I’d join friends they couldn’t either i wasn’t banned or anything I even came back after months on a completely different network and yet same problem.

Xdefiant is very good imo. It's just not for todays players. Im playing fps since mw2 2009 and I was very happy about this game that feel like old school cod. But the majority of the fps community have like 12-20 years old so they grew up with fortnite, apex, warzone etc. these games always have a lot of contents to offer so its always overstimulating the brains of these young teens/ adults. Like Xdefiant Laked of contents for todays standards. For an old school player like me I didn't mind that much

@ if you pick quick match, it starts instantly. I play xdefiant and bo6. At least until they close the servers of xdefiant.

The hit detection even now is not the greatest, it’s much better than when the beta was around but it’s still really rough.
