First time traveling across these bridges one night ago. Absolutely terrifying in middle of night with snowy/icy weather conditions and a semi coming the opposite way.
Drove over them often when we lived out west and came back to visit famiy. Never seen 'em with that little traffic, but often with lots of trucks. Meeting a house trailer on there is an adventure.
One of my earliest memories as a child was my Father, who was an Illinois Central Railroad employee, taking us to see a huge train derailment in a flood on the Mississippi/Ohio rivers. Steam power was the order of the day! I think it was the levee washout causing the wreck!
Cairoite here. Firstly, Cairo is pronounced Care-O, rhymes with arrow. Secondly, both bridges are open again, The Ohio River bridge is scheduled to be replaced in the next few years with a new one that doesn't have that sharp curve on the Kentucky side. Lastly, if you ever see anyone attempting to walk either of these bridges, offer them a ride. You'll be saving a life.
I've driven over these many times to visit Paducah, KY. And let me tell you: you know how they say there are no atheists in foxholes? When a truck with an oversize load enters one of those bridges (especially the Mississippi one), there aren't any atheists in the oncoming traffic, either.
I crossed it on September 7, 2023. I usually come through Cairo and only cross the bridge over the Ohio River, but decided to cross both for the little video. Shortly after that, I saw the Mississippi River bridge was going to be closed for a year or more.
Yes, the US 60/62 bridge over the Mississippi has been closed since October 1, 2023, for structural repairs and is expected to reopen in October of this year.
@@the_ramblin_road glad to hear that they have a timeline. Closures of rural water crossings like this can be devastating to local residents especially for small local businesses along the route . I live in Louisiana and we have had several situations with water crossing closures like this but with no timeline whatsoever of reopening
Music over powers your voice. Making it difficult to understand your words. I will check this out. Wanting to see New Madrid and earth quake. Information. Then. Check out. Wabash river and old dam. Just south of New Harmony Indiana. Thanks.

Those bridges are a breeze. The old Cape Girardeau Missouri bridge, now that was fun. Guess y'all are too young to remember that.

The bridge over the Mississippi is closed now. It looks a lot sketchier in person than this video. Thanks for posting.
Yeah. It wouldn't surprise me if the Mississippi bridge gets condemned all together.

I was a trucker 24 years coast to coast and every time I went across these bridges in that 379 it made my butt suck wind I’m not ashamed to say!!!!
Lol. Right.
Kay, with a long "A"-row.
My Father was goose hunting near there the day I was born! Ages ago!
Only time I was on this bridge was in 1994.
i saw that Ohio bridge once. I was afraid to drive on it.
Is the town in Illinois pronounced KI-ro? Or do they call it KAY-ro? I thought it was the latter.
I've heard it both ways and "Uncle Google" says either pronunciation is correct.
Living in Southern Illinois, I have always heard it pronounced “Care-ro”.
I grew up in that area. It's pronounced Care'o...like the syrup.
@@deba1289 If you grew up there, then you know! Care'o it is! Thank you.

Nicely done. Can you tell me the music: artist and title? Thank you.
Thank you. The song is “Long Road Truckin’ by River Run Dry.
Thanks for the ride along. How long ago was this video taken? Last time I was that way the Hwy 62 bridge was closed off for traffic.
