Why can I only like this once!? That dirty/worn cloth tutorial might be the best tutotial I've seen in the last year or so (and the colourful banner is pretty awesome as well)
@athollmcnicoll1028 Yeah while I was editing it I went "wait...this is basically the Tyranid chitin video 😆" ...so I added the filthy fabric technique as well so it wasn't just the same video.
@@pierrebalmain657 Yep, I'll make a recipe card. Honestly the robes are just going to be a combo of these two (black/green with filthy grey bowls on some). The rest is just Contrast/Speed Paints (Basilicanum Grey or AP Noble Skin on the fur of some, the skin is just Fyreslayer Flesh, and the tails are Volpus Pink mixed with Skeleton Horde until you get a fleshy color (1:2).
@CapitanMee Thank you! I'm gonna do one on a Clanrat I think, and possibly one on speed painting metals with Contrast Paints, using the Ratling Gun Warp Fire Megawhatsit.
this is awesome. i'd been wondering how to differentiate my Dominion sisters from Battle Sisters, and I think I'm going to use this on their cloaks and such to make them stand out differently!
Ooooh! Good idea! Man that makes me wanna try it with flame colors. Like do the technique with red and then repeat it again sparingly on the edges with something like Iyanden Yellow and where the two meet will make an orange...🤩
Very good and interesting. It's good to see some messing with the base/under colours before adding a contrast type paint. Just out of interest. How long had you left the Speedpaint before it reactivated? Another thing that would be useful to know. I'm assuming a spray varnish is safest if it's going to do that.
It was less than an hour, I was batch painting so I'm not 100% certain (maybe 30 or 40 min). It's weird though because I've batch painted with other colors in the range and didn't have any issue. And yes, a spray varnish is the toughest, but keep in mind they mute the heck out of metallics. So if you do wanna varnish the banner, do so before you paint the metallics.
Thanks! It's just Basilicanum Grey Contrast over the same undershading process in the video. I think I thinned it with a speck of lahmian medium to make it more transparent.
I’ve been thinking about experimenting with flow improver in my contrast paints to get some more working time and avoid the dreaded dark blotches - wondering if the undercoat of lahmian might not accomplish the same thing?
Yep pretty much the same application. I find Lahmian medium makes it a little more transparent/flowy but I suppose it depends on the flow improver you're using. The one by Vallejo seems to make them dry pretty glossy though.
@@DarcyBonoCreationsI am finding myself already fighting unwanted glossy finish with shades now and then, and my flow improver is in fact Vallejo (for my airbrush) so I’ll experiment with the lahmian on a test model. Will want to find something with a cape or a robe, some kind of big flat surface. Thanks!
Oh geez don't get me started on the Citadel Shade paints. Also if you wanna use Contrast on capes, it's best to let them dry horizontally so that the most saturated parts sit in the recesses and don't drip down towards the bottom. I learned that the hard way 😅.
Thank you! I think (if I remember correctly) it was Skeleton Horde Contrast over Grey Seer. Then once that was dry I did a super thin coat of Gryphcharger Grey overtop.
Thanks! And same here! Most of them have been totally fine. I've only had issues with this one, Blood Red and Aged Hide. I've yet to figure out the pattern.
I was gonna do one on speed painting metals next since there are a ton in the box. I'll likely do a recipe card for how I paint my clan rat since most of him will be these exact colors (green black tunic with filthy cowl).
I'm sorry I don't understand the question. How I painted each side of the banner is demonstrated in the video. One side was painted black and green, the other side was painted in the filthy technique just to use the same model for two very different techniques.
@@DarcyBonoCreationsoh okay thank you. I thougt these were 2 different models and in my head i was thinking about how i should paint the other side of the flag, if i go for the green black type
The grungy fabric is the same mix I used in the moldy banner video, just applied with MUCH more Lahmian Medium to make it super transparent. Even ratio of Skeleton Horde + Ratling Grime + Lahmian Medium over a light grey surface.
I curse armypainter. I started painting when speedpaints 1.0 came out, and every single channel was raving those damn speedpaints. So I went and bought the mother box and now I hate the reactivation. It's so stupid...
Well not every channel, and yeah that stinks. Good thing Contrast Paints don't have that issue and you can get a similar green with Mantis Warrior Green + Black Templar. I've tried the 2.0 of the AP speedpaints and most of them seem better but the chance is still there which is annoying.
Some of the coolest clanrats I've seen yet.
Really love your Clanrats! They look amazing.
"Paint" and "Skaven" is a guaranteed click from me!
Despite my wallet, I'm glad to be back into the hobby.
Thank you reddit for sending me to this amazing artist
This is such a cool technique!
Awesome techniques, I especially love the second one and will definitely use it on many things!
I have got to get into the habit of using Lahmian medium to diffuse colors. I bet it would assist in blending harsh transitions.
Thank you for the great ideas and superb explanation 🤩🌠
Squeak-squeak! 🐀🐀
That's fantastic, will keep that in mind not just for the banners.
amazing work
yes yes
amazing banner
the grey seer wanted to!!
Thanks,
I will use this on my skavens :) ❤
I really like this idea, definitely going to look for somewhere I can try it out soon.

Such a ridiculously cool technique! I've got Skaventide coming next week so will deffo try this out!
Thank you! Hope you enjoy it :)
Great and simple technique. Might give it a go on my Stormcast from skaventide
Amazing technique! I'm stealing thus to share your vision to others!
These both look great! Will be trying these techniques when my Skaventide box arrives, also on my Chaos Space Marines and cultists!
super easy and super great look
thats a great technique.. thank you for sharing. gonna be using that one soon.
Another banger from Darcy! Thanks for sharing your wisdom!
Thank you, very useful!
This looks great! 👌❤️
This is a really interesting and easy to follow painting technique for flags and banners thank you for sharing
Very nice
These look great. Definitely borrowing the idea.
This is the first hobby channel I activate the bell for notifications, so much good/simple techniques displayed here
@@FamIly-pv3cw Oh wow that is an incredibly nice compliment, thank you!

This is so cool! Would you make a video for your clanrats scheme? Or at least share your colors with us? It would be amazing ♥!

Wow surely this could work for all clothing?
Yep! I use the filthy version on my Night Haunts and a little Skeleton Horde mixed in for when I paint Cadian fatigues.
Do you have a video on your Skaven, they look amazing but couldn't see one

How do you paint the faces with fur? I love how they look

for the skaven's skin, what colors did you use?
How did you do to highlight the skin?
7:02 of my Clanrat video: ua-cam.com/video/_ru0zX7Jea4/v-deo.html. No highlights just Contrast Paint.
I have a lot of speedpaints 2.0 and they never reactivated. Very wierd.

@@DarcyBonoCreations drop of anti shine or medium should stop it...
Yep, I use Vallejo Matte varnish for it. Just annoying adding an extra step for something that isn't supposed to be an issue anymore is all.
