The first Centauro ll 8x8 for the Brazilian Army

Widely circulated on social media on May 9 2024, regarding the sighting of new panzers for the Brazilian Army.
This procurement follows Brazilian Army announcement on 25 November 2022 by Comando Logístico (COLOG) / Diretoria de Material, which has selected the Italian-made Centauro ll as its fire support vehicle (FSV). This vehicle eliminates the General Dynamics Land Systems LAV 700 AG from Canada and the NORINCO ST1-BR from China.
The Centauro ll canon panzer was built by a CIO consortium formed by the Iveco Defense Vehicle company and Leonardo, which is a refinement of the Centauro gen-1.
The version Brazilian Army chose was the same as the Italian military version. This vehicle carries a Leonardo Hitfact MkII turret which is armed with a main weapon in the form of a 120 mm/L45 cannon.
This weapon system provides firepower equivalent to a modern main battle tank (MBT) and is capable of firing the latest generation of 120 mm NATO ammunition including APFSDS ( Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot ) and Multi-Purpose (MP) ammunition .
One of the other advantages that the Centauro ll has compared to its competitors is that it has 28.5 percent of the same components that it uses on Brazilian Army current Guarani 6×6 APC/IFV panzer.
