I think a better test is a 125cc vs 250 Four stroke, or a 250cc Two stroke vs 450
I wondered, most classes I've watched race its 250 vs 450, not one 125.
Why not 250 2 stroke vs 250 4 stroke....why do strokers always run against smaller 2 strokes??
@@Garminrules when 4 Strokers came into the scene in the early 2000's, the AMA rules were that up to a 450cc 4 stroke could race against the 250cc two strokes. Also up to a 250cc 4 stroke could race in the 125cc class... due to the 2 strokes having more power at the time.... AMA was trying to make it even.
Then the 2 stroke would win no question.

What people don't fully understand is how fast you actually are in person. You look fast on camera, but as a local who rides 74 and FTT fairly often, I can tell everyone watching videos that it still does not do you justice. Jeff is a wicked fast rider peeps! (and a cool dude too!)

@@BaggelasTV sx125 has a bit under 40 hp. Sxf450 has 55-60 hp. sx125 weighs about 90kg and sxf450 around 100kg. The weight difference isn't very high, and the power difference is quite substantial, especially with the torque. So a 450 wins always.

I think it was good first lap I felt like he could slip the clutch a little more on the first or second turn a little more but other than that that 125 is so much lighter its easier to throw around I love riding 2 strokes for that reason
the 125 didnt go so fast hence he didn t have to brake that much which makes look quicker and sketchy

The 4 strokes wind in a long distance the 2 stroke wins in a shorter distance basically the 2 stroke has more acceleration and the 4 stroke had more top speed

By having this lack of power with the 125 and so this necessity of keeping a linear speed everywhere. You look like a thousand times more agressive and way faster going into turns. You really look like putting maximum effort on the 2stroke. While on the other hand with the 450, looks like you are searching to avoid putting yourself in the red physically and not putting yourself in danger because the horsepower will do the job while going out of the turns. Lemme know what do you think about my thoughts 😉 By the way, I really like your videos, all of em, you’re doing really simples, naturals and great videos. Keep it going mate !!
I think 125s can be insane around a track but with tons of power and displacement the 450 is just so much more forgiving. A 450 can make a slow rider look fast, 125 on the other hand you absolutely have to ride the piss out of and be perfect.
The 125 lets him ride full throttle through the whole track. The 450 could easily send him off the track he has to control the power.
I loved the 2-stroke part. Reminds me of my hay days before I broke my back and had to give up the sport 11 years ago.

First of I really dig your channel and everything you are putting out. Very very cool stuff. And I must say your an incredible rider. Very fast. But the one thing I desperately want to see is a track comparison with lap times between a ktm 300 2-stroke and a 450 4-stroke. With both bikes I would hope to see the similar amount of mods. And both newer machines. This is one comparison that I've never seen and really want to see... can you make this happen...? I want to see at what point does a 2-stroke have as fast or faster lap times as a built 450 4-stroke. Please make this happen Jeff. Thanks for your effort and keep doing what your doing brother.

I took lap times at several nationals back in the 80s when they had all 3 classes the same day. The 500 class was slower than the 125s and 250s every time. The 450F is still going to be the fastest.

Dude, you are a MONSTER on that 125!! You absolutely kill those corners - such an impressive ride! That 125 was screaming the entire lap, total ear candy. You make it look so easy - wish I had your skills my man!!
Pretty fair comparison! And damn fast! On the lighter 125 you used it's handling advantage with quicker transitions from upright to full lean. That gives you more line/cornering options in a crowded race. IMO, the light weight bikes are always more fun - and safer because you can save it easier when things get out of shape. Way to keep it pinned on both bikes!

250f and 125 2-t are similar power 250 have more mid and low end power while a 125 is top end all the way

The thing about 4 strokes is that you get ALL of the power, ALL the time. 2 strokes tend to have quick get up, but lack that bottom end power

Loved this comparison. I have been debating what bike to get. i'm a 50+ rider. World of experience on two wheels. I am torn because the 125 is light and fun but the 450 will be more competitive. Perhaps not older guys mention that even with tons of experience the 450 can be a fight "wrestling the beast" and wear you out quicker than 125 arm pump. lol
I'm 47 and have both, get the 125, just get a brand new husky.
I hurts my heart how many people have zero clue what a two stroke is and is about, but it feels good people who don't know are getting fascinated with them and sharing videos makes my think more R&D will be put back into them and bring back the popularity AND THE CHEEPNESS TO MAINTAIN THEM back.
I am a 4 stroke rider and I’ve always liked two strokes, what hurts my heart is that people just cant appreciate both the types of dirt bikes, in my honest opinion I prefer 4 strokes but 2 strokes will always have a place in my heart
i am firm believer in a flywheel weight to improve cornering power. they are mainly used for trails but i feel it helps keep the rpm up long enough to get back on the pipe

They are basically the same its just a 450 has alot more torque and bottom end than a 350 does. 450 makes alittle more horsepower but idk if its enough to matter.

Well I knew I could come down to these comments and find all the smoker lovers defending to the end. Smokers are not faster, get over it, if they were, they would still be being used in the pro circuit. I just watched the Monster Energy supercross in Houston last week and I couldn't help but notice that the fastest bikes were 450 4 strokes. Yes, two strokes are lighter, yes two strokes are fun to ride, no, two strokes are not faster than 4 strokes. I saw one comment about how if it was a tighter track the 2-stroke would have won oh, that's nonsense, 450 has power throughout the band to come out of turns and hit jumps, two strokes don't, sorry. I own the exact same two bikes that they rode in this video, and I ride mine every weekend at 3 Palms in Houston. Now, with all that said, if I ever buy another new bike, I'm going to get a Husky 125 smoker.
The main reason 2 strokes aren't the being used on the pro circuit today is the same reason they are not used on the GP road racing circuit it's because the Japanese factories primarily Honda wanted 4 strokes because that's what they were selling to the public .Soichiro Honda always hated 2 strokes it has nothing to do with the 4 strokes being faster remember motocross bikes were 4 strokes in the 60s until the 2 strokes rendered them uncompetitive but then they had to compete on an equal capacity basis .Honda tried desperately to compete with a 4 stroke in 500 cc GP road racing with the NR 500 an oval piston v4 with 8 carbies that revved to 20000 revs it was essentially a v8 and it was completely outclassed by the 4 cylinder 2 strokes it never looked liked winning a race . The 125 here is an old bike competing against a bike with nearly 4 times the capacity where all the development dollars have gone for the last 15 years. It's like saying let's get a 6 litre v8 NASCAR car with 800 hp and run it against an identical NASCAR car but put a 1.5 litre v8 in it with 250 hp and see if it can win.
Not really.... 4 strokes require almost twice the displacement of a 2 stroke engine. A 250 two stroke vs. a 250 4 stroke would be like riding a 250cc 2 stroke against a 125cc 2 stroke. The engines are polar opposites, tons of torque off idle with a 4, while the 2 stroke is in it's power band when engine rpm is much higher.

Meh. The 450 4 strokes were faster than the 500 2 strokes, hence they stopped making them. Its not about peak power, its about putting power to the ground. The new 2 strokes are a hoot, but you have to ride them flat out to get anywhere ( I ride enduros), but the four strokes, especially the big bores you can poke around in the mid range and still be as quick. Except through tight single trail. Having said that, I rode a kx 500 when I was about 16, couldnt keep the front end on the ground. Dunno whether I was excited or just shitting myself, and would have one in a heartbeat!

I've been riding a Ninja 300 for not quite a year and have no prior motorcycle experience but wow. The only reason I know you're good is from reading comments but watching the video I was blown away. If you have to constantly ride the 125 wide open just to get slower times than the 450 gets at half throttle, then which one do you think is going to last longer? If you say anything other than the 125 is going to blow up first then you obviously live in that alternate universe the other guy is talking about lol.

I have a Kawasaki Kx125 and crf450. I get better times on the kx125 but at the same time I’m not as skilled as this guy and the 125 for me handles better because it’s so much lighter.

I blew up my 125cc when riding it to the store (about 5 miles away) wide open on a 50 mph speed limit road. Not sure how fast I was going? It was stupid to keep the bike at its top speed for the amount of time I did. They are not meant to be ridden like that. But I really love the 125cc because its so light weight and you can just throw it around and fly off jumps like crazy.
That track was made for big bore bikes, on a smaller tighter track that was not so fast the times would be closer.
What makes no sense is the hole 2 stroke vs 4 stroke debate is a 125 2 stroke vs a 250 4 stroke because they are in the same motocross class. So why compare a small displacement bike to a big displacement bike. If your going to make the comparison with a 450 you should use a 2 stroke 250
