I would appreciate a video on the Cupples house. I would like to see more on The Sappington House too. Boone Home is my favorite. Thanks for showing Taille de Noyer in Florissant.
What a great vid. TY :). As a former St. Louisan, I have been to the Magic Chef house and the Cupples house at SLU. I had no idea about the Sappington house. Now on my list when I go back to visit friends.
I go to SLU and the Cupples house is my favorite! I believe the basement now holds an art gallery, and the upper levels have an amazing amount of glassware on display. It's a student favorite to study at. It'd be awesome to see a video about it!
Great videos, thanks! They are putting a new roof on the magic chef mansion currently and they are using the same red slate as before. It's quite the project!
With #7 the exterior design of the smooth painted front versus the side of the house in brick is the Painted Lady style. It would be awesome if you did a video on painted lady row houses in stl bc there are quite a few. I remember in 3rd grade when we did a tour of STL architecture, it was one of my favorite building styles! Love your videos
Thank you so much! We also love Painted Ladies! If you haven't seen it yet, we did a sneak peek of this Painted Lady and will be doing a full house tour within the next year ua-cam.com/video/etWasDQUDAE/v-deo.html
What a great video! I am determined to get to St Louis and this is a great list of places to see! Visiting historic homes is a passion of mine and something I grew up doing as my parents enjoyed it as well. Thanks, Ken, for the STL bucket list!
@@ThisHouse I think so! How lucky you are to live in an area with such a rich history and where preservation was valued early on and continues to be valued.
I grew up around St. Louis county, I am in Texas now. I will share this with my sister who still lives up there, and when I visit, she can pick one or two each time I come so we can visit them! That can be an exciting adventure! I can’t wait. Thank you for sharing. 🤗
Fantastic video! My son is at WashU and every time we go to visit STL I love exploring this wonderful city. Thank you for doing these type of videos. The real estate videos although interesting ( for those trying to find an old house to buy) lack the historical context of your other videos. I hope you get a percentage of the sale if any of those houses is sold thanks to your advertising. 😉
Our pleasure! We do not get a commission on the sale, however we do sometimes charge a modest fee for marketing the properties. When featuring homes that are for sale, we will only ever present ones with outstanding architectural merit. Sometimes we are unable to find history on the homes we present, but feel that it is worth while to showcase the unique styles from the different time periods. We are so glad you are enjoying these videos!
I’ve lived in St. Louis my whole life and I can’t believe I haven’t visited any of these. Although, I can’t believe the Lemp mansion is missing from this list.
I remember the Daniel Boone video you did it was a very nice home. I wish you could tour the magic chef house. I think it’ll bring a lot of viewership to your channel blessings.😇🏡
Shelley was such a treasure I bet she was a wonderful lady .I’m glad she bought the house. Every time you take us on a tour of a property your wealth and knowledge of that property is what draws me into watching. My grandma passed away at 99 years in 2018. She had a magic chef stove she bought in 1934. And she used it every day. The people that brought her home said the only reason they wanted it was because of the stove and they still use it till this day. So thank you again it was a treasure to see this video.🥰🥰🥰🏡
Love the video. Do you know where I can get a list of St. Louis area museum houses? I heard there are over 100 in the metropolitan area and would love to see each of them. 👍🏻
There is a company that is working on compiling a full list to offer guided tours of each. Stay tuned as we will be announcing the full list later this year. Cheers!
The Cupples House which I remember well when I attended and graduated from SLU in 1992. Until this video I was unaware of the sheer cost of the construction. Not old but I spent MUCH time studying at the Pius XII library on campus.
You ever wonder how people with horse and buggy and primitive tools built structures like this and the worlds fairs? Possible these were inherited? Or "found"ed
Wait. What? A gay couple in the 19th century openly owning a home together? Please tell me how this was successfully accomplished! Were they confirmed bachelors and roommates? Dish!
Which house museum is your favorite?😀
Cupples House. Would love to see video of interior, attic and basement!
Magic Chef
The lemp Mansion
Magic Chef House
Sappington House - because it was built by my ancestors.
My favorite was the Daniel Boone home and the surrounding area .Thank you for showing these beautifully crafted homes

Lewis Bissell was also a Captain, his father a Major, and his uncle a General in the Military.
Very informative, nice work Ken.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks!
A lot of these I've always wanted to see but never had the chance so I am happy for the video tour!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Beautiful houses! We really enjoy your videos. So professional and well done.
*puts these houses next to the corn elevator museum on my museums to visit list*
Well done, thanks. I'm loving your videos.

Thank you so much! There are dozens more that I did not include, you really could spend a couple weeks going through each of them.

I grew up in St. Louis. It’s amazing how many different architecture style here
The Campbell House Museum designed for John Hall and his partner James Donaldson -- and they were roommates!!
Wonderful filming and information, you sure are proud of St. Louis.
Magic Chef mansion is my favorite. It looks like a chateau. Thank you for all your informative videos!

That sounds like a great way to spend your time here! Cheers!
The Campbell House Museum, but I’m the caretaker, so I’m a little biased.
That is amazing! We really enjoyed filming with Michael at the Campbell House Museum

The Cupples house looks very similar to the Victoria College building in Toronto.
Those are very beautiful old houses that are museums.
I’ve lived in St. Louis my whole life and I can’t believe I haven’t visited any of these. Although, I can’t believe the Lemp mansion is missing from this list.
Are there tours of the Bissell Estate?
It is open for tours by appointment
I remember the Daniel Boone video you did it was a very nice home. I wish you could tour the magic chef house. I think it’ll bring a lot of viewership to your channel blessings.😇🏡
We actually have featured the Magic Chef Mansion.
You can check it out right here: ua-cam.com/video/_RiIRcaJ2mQ/v-deo.html

All of them
I want to hear more about John Hall and his partner James Donaldson. Anybody have a link?
We actually featured the Campbell House museum on our channel before: ua-cam.com/video/n7QXw7rVkps/v-deo.html
It is quite an informative video!
i got to go to the Campbell house. would like to see others
I live two minutes away from the magic chef mansion

Bissell lived in his house for over 40 yrs and died at 79. Say it's haunted

Left off the Lemp Mansion and the Busch Family Castle
You guys need to go look at the Bush mansion at grants farm
Isn't the Daniel Boone House in Defiance Mo? That is some distance from St. Louis.
It is a nice Sunday drive, less than one hour, from anywhere in the St. Louis Metro area.
Its like 30 minutes away from the city
You missed the two McElhiney homes in St. Charles, a suburb of St. Louis
No link on the screen right now at the end of Campbell house... Also why is it called Campbell house?
It would have been really cool if you would’ve given addresses or neighborhood locations for these houses.
Surprised the Boone house only had 2 1/2 thick limestone walls! Usually stone walls are 4 ft thick. But best part is stone doesn't spread fires....
I am disappointed that the Henry Shaw!s home was not listed. It is part of the Missouri Botanical and is beautiful.
We covered the Henry Shaw House in a previous video. Here is the link to it: ua-cam.com/video/yUPPsWy_42s/v-deo.html
the pink one cost of 49,000. six bedrooms. Mine in heaven only has one and the loft for company.
Campbell's house windows are very modern
Brick buildings need a wash of ammonia water to counteract acid rain.
There are 8 Bissell Houses btw
