I built and ran my own 7DTD server for the last 8+ years or so. I recently took it down due to changes in the other things that I had built the sever for. It was easy to set up. Nice being able to play with friends with settings that everyone can agree with. Also nice to have the server going 24/7 for friends that live in other countries. Thanx Vedui for this video.
You're welcome Jeff! Local servers are great for occasional sessions, OR if you have a dedicated server running anyway 24/7. Otherwise a hosted solution provides a solution for 24/7. I had never used a VPS server system prior to this, but I feel it's got some great advantages. Being able to spin up, or down a server when I want is super handy! For instance I migrated our Icarus server onto this solution and it was a matter of just uploading the save, editing the config, and starting it up and everything was good!
Sorry to bother but I have a question, I've gotten the server up and running and it's a great experience thus far. However, I'd like to install mods into the server. I've tried going into the file structure on Hostinger and noticed a "Mods" folder. I then stopped the server temporarily, copy/pasted some mods into this folder, and started the server and went in-game, but can't seem to get the mods working. Was wondering if you had any tips to help get mods running on a service like this?
Hi. Not a problem, happy to help. In general, it depends on what mods you have. Some mods are serer only, some are client only. If they are ONLY xml mods, then putting them in the /Mods folder is sufficient. However if the mods are more complicated, you then also need to have the mods on your client. Also make sure you're not accidentally get a double-folder structure when you put them in the /Mods folder. Extracting sometimes makes it end up one down ie /Mods/myMod/myMod/files ... that's also a common issue. I would suggest find a couple of simple xml mods, and get one working, before going more complex. If you have more issues, come to my discord and it'll be easier to review :)
@@Vedui42 Thank you! Figured out the issue, for anyone else, Hostinger only accepts uploading mods in zip folder form. Thing is, I had forgotten to unzip the folder once it was in Hostinger. Also, checking for double-folder structure definitely helped.
That makes sense. Gotta extract and verify path. And to clarify, you can upload files without it being in zip form. I do that all the time. However zip files are more efficient due to being smaller. Also for larger mods, consider FTP (or rather SFTP = secure ftp) as that's much easier to manage :)
Yes you can! I'll have to dig into it agai, but there are some setting for STEAM under the instance, where you can specify the actual beta version (latest_experimental) or older versions. That'll then be used when you update :) Check at the bottom left, steamcmd and updates. Under the Release stream (defaults to public). :)
@@Vedui42 sorry im struggling a lot. i changed my "Release Stream" box from "public" to "latest_experimental" and it keeps failing to launch just wondering if this for sure works without any other changes
Yes you can :) Check this video. While it's meant for pingperfect, the general thing is the same. Upload the folders to the server (ftp) and configure :) ua-cam.com/video/MMr3UNLZntw/v-deo.html
You can yes, although as always, heavily modded servers require more work to get up and running. A good way is to get a dedicated modded server running locally so you know what's involved, then repeat those steps on a hosted server. Usually this involves FTP (file transfer) the /mods folder to the server and configuring :) Do keep in mind that modded 7dtd usually takes a fair bit extra RAM. It's not uncommon to see 10-11 GB.
Nice video, thanks. I am just wondering, the settings done in the GUI are not changing values in serverconfig.xml. Can I self change the settings in serverconfig.xml, does it have any effect? It is directly to be found in Folder SevenDaysToDie01.
Yes. You can edit the files directly, and that's one of the things with AMP which I wish they would change design on. I would like them to directly allow editing the file (without navigating to it) OR using the editor. As I'm more comfortable using the text file editor.

Really easy to follow.
Thank you Adam! Did what I could to showcase all steps, and put in video-chapters to make it a little bit easier to hop around :)

Does this also allow us to also run modded 7dtd maps?

Such an ass game, its basically DayZ for minecraft nerds
Except... 7 Days To Die actually came out BEFORE DayZ :)
