  • WHAT IF I TOLD YOU...? that one Draft would change the NFL forever! This is the explosive inside story of one fateful day in the lives of two football legends. Much more than an eponymous episode in the careers of John Elway and Dan Marino, this documentary reveals a great deal of the behind the scenes wheeling and dealing that takes place on 1983 Draft Day. Directed by Ken Rodgers. Narrated by Tom Selleck. More info at bit.ly/17IHopj

    Both Elway and Marino were both drafted by the KC Royals in the 78 or 79 draft out of high school

    Elway's success didn't surprise me but who knew how great a passer Marino would be? Who knew that Marino would be that great of a passer that he would be able yo play good enough to help the Dolphins win ONE Conference Championship Game. Mind boggling.

      I saw Marino play in the East-West Shrine game and he must have completed 7 passes in a row and he looked amazing.

    This completely change my opinion about Al Davis being paranoid about Pete Rowell. How the NFL for the only time in its history blocked a trade that was agreed upon for absolutely no reason and denied they did it for 30 years. If your a fan and especially a Raiders fan this is worth a couple of dollars to watch.

    In all fairness to Billy Ray Smith, he should have been a Pro Bowl selection at least once.

    What's probably the most ironic thing about Bradshaw's statement is not only did Elway win championships with Denver, but they also beat the Steelers too that same season. Yea, so much for kicking the dog out of them, Terry. XD

      Yeah, but pretty boy crybaby Elway was taken out of the game for Steve DeBerg too. He did a big fat nothing.

    Can't help but wonder what if the Dolphins had traded up and drafted John Elway. John would definitely have signed with them since the Dolphins were just in the Super Bowl. They would have had a QB that played good enough to help his team win a total of 7 championships-5 Conference and 2 Super Bowls.

    • @dennismumford6108
      @dennismumford6108 4 роки тому

      The other what if-the Dolphins could have traded for and signed Jim Kelly. A QB that had 2 teams ('91 and '93) that were OFFICIALLY Ranked 27th on Defense (out of 28 teams) in the Super Bowl. What an overachiever.

    The Steeler team Bradshaw was drafted by won just one game the previous season. Bradshaw did not bring his daddy to whine to the Steelers that he did not want to play for them. 4-0 in Super bowls with no choking.

      weird take

    • @martinishot
      @martinishot 4 роки тому

      SlickChick What’s weird about it? Here are some more examples. Troy Aikman was drafted by a directionless cowboy organization that had just finished with a record of 3 and 13 then went through his rookie year going 1 and 15 without being a crybaby. Joe Montana was drafted by a Directionless 49er organization that had finished with a record of 2-14 without being a crybaby. Then watched them go through his rookie season again with exact same record with New owner and new coach. Again without being a crybaby. Even the patriots team that drafted Brady had only finished with eight wins eight losses and looked to be on the decline. I think any of these three guys could be saying the same thing as Bradshaw.

    • @martinishot
      @martinishot 4 роки тому

      SlickChick actually yes the patriots were definitely on the decline as Brady from the bench watched them go 5 wins 11 losses for 2000. Brady has a greater legacy than Elway, but he would’ve been thrilled to be drafted in the first round at all.

      John Elway decision at the end of tha day.. He didnt wanna play For Bmore Colts.. Tha Colts didnt have to draft him

    • @martinishot
      @martinishot 2 роки тому

      @@rollinstonemoula9689 Of course, but an unprecedented decision with Bradshaw and many others making the decision to mock it at the end of the day. Leaves the same residue as Kevin Durant joining the Warriors when he failed to beat them with OKC. MJ would never join his enemy the Pistons and also accepted going where players ranked high get drafted into, a losing franchise, without being a baby..

    The colts got better after that 1983 draft and made the playoffs for 1987 1995 and 1996 and that is all during Elways playing days. For five of those seasons Elway as the quarterback would have had Eric Dickerson in the backfield with him.All during that time after 1983 they had put together some pretty good teams but they just did not have a quarterback that stacked up against the competition's quarterback. Elway could have proven himself wrong and his father wrong and with the colts could have gone to a super bowl several times who knows maybe even a win. I'm not a colts fan or a broncos fan but this is how I see it.

    Elway is a great QB but a terrible GM for the Broncos. Way to pass on Josh Allen. That will go down as the worst draft ever.

      Crazy, Marino was drafted #27 overall, he would have altered the course (positively) of ANY of the teams that passed him up.
      The 1983 draft was absolutely Loaded. I'm an Eagles fan, they drafted #8 overall and took............RB Michael Haddix (Bust City, U.S.A.)............they could've had FREAKING DAN MARINO.

  • @mattoresko5950
    @mattoresko5950 2 роки тому +2

    Elway sucks. He won two super bowls but he only did it by bypassing being the first overall selection. He only won because he could dictate his own rules. That's a false championship. Marino to the broncos would have been amazing. I don't think he had the technical skills, but Marino was definitely a better passer in the game.

    Marino was not one of the 2 best taken QBs. Kelly won more. Went to more Super Bowls and had the most success.

      Jericho marino isn’t the goat, but he’s too 2 all time in terms of talent. not resume but talent. the throws he could make only 1 other guy ever could make those throws and it’s aaron rodgers

    • @robrob1488
      @robrob1488 5 років тому

      That’s very true. Marino and Rodgers are in a class of their own when it comes to quality of passing. Mahomes could be same class time will tell

      Rob Rob true. but i think aaron rodgers will always be top dog because when rodgers was younger he was more mobil then mahomes and never had a cast like the one mahomes has. aaron rodgers has made throws literally no other person on planet earth could make
