      Rhaenys is a hypocrite for saying it. She listens to Corlys all the time and she's a royal who has dragon. Alicent gets her power through her husband and kids. Having Aegon on the throne is the best scenario for her. Having Rhaenyra on the throne is dangerous for her kids.

      @@ACinemafanatichow is manipulation the main problem ? Rhaenys said that Alicent isn't free but how could she be "free"? Her husband is the king, she got her power only because of him. Her son is a prince with a dragon who has strong claim - his position is way more powerful than hers.
      As I said,Rhaenys has much more power but STIL listens to Corlys.
      1) she didn't want Laena to be married to Viserys
      2) she didn't think that marrying Laenor, an obvious gay, to the heir was an great idea because the issue of them not being able to produce heir would put the whole realm in unstable situation.
      3) she wanted Baela to inherit the Driftmark
      She agreed to betroth the children only after Viserys walked into the room. Before that, she was happy to see Rhaenyra being put into a corner by the greens. But it's a different topic that has nothing to do with Rhaenys being hypocrite about Alicent's position in power

    Guys, I have to say Aegon's coronation was cool. The tolling of the bells that mark the King's passing and Aegon's accession, the announcing of Viserys'death and giving him the epiteth "the Peaceful", the fanfair, Aegon's walk under the sword passage, the anointing, the crowning, the proclamation of his titles, the rumbling cheers of the people and, finally, his waving of the Conqueror's sword. Very powerful, an event that remains in the history of Westeros. I'm only sorry about a few things:
    Viserys not being given a proper funeral, which is even in the books, but nonetheless distasteful; the absence of Queen Helaena's own crowning by Alicent and Aegon's three circles of the city on Sunfyre; and that Rhaenys' scene, which was liked by many, although in my opinion was senseless. Overall, epic scene.

She’s done that for 40 yrs now when she does it there’s an issue with it. Realistically if you go and sit and talk with someone you wouldn’t expect them to just randomly continue a conversation they had 24 hrs ago that you were unaware took place with another human no matter how out of it they were especially when the names and details match up to where you can at least make a little sense out of what they’re saying. When you hear nonsense you try to decipher it and that’s what she did

Attacking the princess with a knife isn't exactly dutiful either. Alicent's sense of duty only applies to actions that benefit her.

    also if you remember, daemon created the gold cloaks, otto was ordering them to open the doors but they were doing the opposite, this is shown because the gold cloaks favor daemon and want to see daemons ascent, so they were actually hoping that trapping melys in there would stress her out and would therefore burn everyone to a crisp and ending everything right then and there.

    Being a people pleaser was one of Viserys' worst traits as king, as well as simply wanting to ignore every problem and hope for the best. We saw him do it with the Stepstones, a problem he ignored until Corlys and Daemon fixed it for him, and we see him let his family's dysfunction spiral out until war was inevitable.
    Like you said, he never should have brought Otto back in as Hand. He also probably should have forced the marriage between Jace and Helaena, even though it would have ruined his relationship with Alicent. Getting the kids away from Alicent might have also been a good decision because if he was paying attention he would know how toxic her influence was.
    He maybe even should have disinherited Rhaenyra when she started popping out the bastards. It's awful the way women have their sexuality controlled in this society, but is standing up to that sexism worth thousands (maybe millions) of people being killed, raped and displaced worth it? Sorry I wrote an essay here, just needed to get that off my chest! Thanks for the videos!

    I do think it's an interesting take that Viserys' neglect toward his other children made less of an impression on them than their mother's insistence that they be raised wary of dying. Viserys' inaction gets a pass from a lot of people because he starts to break down and everyone else is more ambitious. I think Bridget's anger in the first episode was righteous but it's a more stark example of his own follies ruining his family.
    After all those years, he's still in relatively good health enough to raise his sons. And yet, he lets them stew in the resentment of Alicent and Criston Cole. Something he plainly saw. Letting Rhaenyra get away with her doings. Time and time again letting Daemon back into the fold despite his undermining. This isn't you guys but Viserys getting smol beaned by the end of the series by some people has been stuck in my craw.
    The right response to not wanting something to happen is to be more proactive in preventing it. Especially if you have absolute power.

      The same people would hate the Green no matter what they do, even if it is good.
      The reason is, these people often have zero accountability for their actions. So they validate themselves with the Blacks, who largely aren’t punished for their bad behavior, and even if they were, they’d quickly jump on the blame game rather than some self-reflection.
      These people wanna do whatever they please without any repercussions.

    • @alibrasworld
      @alibrasworld 2 місяці тому +4

      Those are two very different situations... Ned did not try to deny the throne to Joffrey just so he could take it for himself (also, the Lannisters were vile) and Rhaenyra is not a bastard, so the fact that her sons are doesn't really matter here. People don't like the greens because of the way they've been acting since ep 1.

    • @havok6280
      @havok6280 2 місяці тому

      @@alibrasworld no they are not entirely different. Ned was going against Robert's dying wish. He could have told him the truth about Joffrey. He chose not to. He also entertained Renly and Littlefinger's schemes.
      Rhaenrya may not be a bastard but she is a woman. There has never been a ruling queen. As Rhaenrya admitted last episode, naming her divided the realm.
      More importantly she committed treason when she put bastards in the line of succession. Keep in mind Corlys said the fact that Rhaenys already had a male heir in Laenor was a reason to support her claim.
      As far as how the Greens have acted, name their crimes. Otto has consistently done what he thought was best for his house and the realm. He is the reason Viserys named Rhaenrya in the first place because he correctly recognized how dangerous Daemon is. And nearly ever Hand has tried to marry into the royal family. Tywin wanted to marry Cersei to Rhaegar. Ned was willing to let Sansa marry Joffrey. Otto is no different.

    I think Rhaenys comment to Alicent about seeing herself on the Iron Throne was just to reinforce the other point about Alicent’s life being in service to the men in her life rather than having any true agency of her own. I don’t think she was actually insinuating that was a possibility for Alicent. That is a great scene between those two! And as far as the shocking “feet” scene, if you go back to the earlier episode when Larys and Alicent met in her quarters for a meal, Alicent took off her shoes before sitting at the table. At the time it just seemed like she was getting comfortable after a long and trying day. Now it feels like there might’ve been more going on there. But I honestly think that from Larys’ perspective this is more about the power he has over Alicent, that he can get her to debase herself like that. IMO, the humiliation of it feels like something that would give him more pleasure than anything else.

    Criston is such an unbearable character. Alicent holds her adversaries to the highest standards but refuses to do so for a man who clearly can’t control himself, or his emotions, in any salient capacity. He is absolutely recalcitrant to the same degree as Rhaenyra, and is absolved from the same level of judgement on the basis of his loyalty alone (and his gender tbh). Weird seeing people draw comparisons to the things he did and Rhaenys escaping forced captivity, killing NPCs in the name of freedom and her family. But, people who support the Green’s aren’t really on the side of critical thinking as I’m sure you’re aware. Even now one of them is reading this, getting heated, no doubt seething to tell me I should “read the books” even though I have, and even though it has nothing to do with how we interpret a separate iteration of the same terrible characters

    • @gunkulator1
      @gunkulator1 2 місяці тому +1

      The "read the books" people clearly missed one of the biggest themes Martin lays down in his books, i.e. written history is notoriously unreliable and biased. GRRM practically hits you over the head with this in his introduction in the book. So no, going to the books is not the path to knowing how things "really" happened.
