  • Kimono Speed Dressing is wearing a kimono in less than 6 minutes. Fast people only take 5 or even less. In this video I'm showing you, how fast you can put on a furisode.
    The Kumamoto Kimono Speed Dressing Contest was last weekend. It was my third time to take part in this competition. The national contest is very year in the end of July.

    It seems like in all cultures, something in clothing eventually got exaggerated to the point of inconvenience. Kimono sleeves, European trains on skirts, bedouin headcoverings, American headcoverings (sunbonnets)...

    I thought at first that you will tie an obi 'from scratch' and I wanted to see that part the most, because an obi is what I always have the most struggles with.)
    What I admire every time it's how smoothly and elegantly you move even when putting on a kimono!

    I would love to see a second version of this video but with the view from the back/ a split screen version with one video from the front and one from the back., as well as one on how to pre-tie a formal obi this way. I am very curious as to how you secured the portion of the obi that wrapped around the front in the back!

    Ohh I line those lil clipsthingys for the collar. I have one that is continuous, but big as I am, it is a disaster to use, yours are much, much nicer. Now I got something to look for. Do they have a product name or is it DIY all the way? ♥️

  • @Chinhann

    I wonder how long you take to wear Naga-Juban! It takes me forever to smooth the wrinkles 😭
    And also, what kind of stuff is it when you used to set your Eri? It looks like Korin belt+ waist belt...??

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  4 роки тому +4

      The Nagajuban takes me usually less then 2 minutes. I’ve also a tutorial for wearing a nagajuban on my channel. This could help you. Yes, it is a “korin belt” which is cut in half can be clipped together later..... I learned to call this item “waist belt” and I like that term a little better 😊

    • @Chinhann
      @Chinhann 4 роки тому

      Billy Matsunaga Thanks for your reply, and I’m t only takes 2 minutes! Yeah I’ll definitely watch the video!
      By the way, wearing furisode is okay for married women? I bought a sweet Furisode the other day but I got married 3 months ago... I’m willing to cut the sode though, it would be a houmongi anyways... what do you think? I’d like to wear furisode again!

      @@BillyMatsunaga Could you show us in more detail what this waist belt looks like? It looks a bit like a hybrid between the korin belt and the stretchy koshihimo you can buy. I use korinbelts but I struggle big time as they, although I'm a size 38/UK 10, are too short and sit too tight, pulling the collars very close together and the kimono ends up swallowing my juban collar and rubbing against my neck and getting stained :(

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  4 роки тому +1

      @@mariabengtsson6866 oh yes! i know that problem with those belts. I talk more detailed about that waist belt in my yukata tutorial. I also show th difference between both belts. I hope this will help you a little more! ua-cam.com/video/d17NWbph1DU/v-deo.html

    What is your normal time for putting on a kimono(awase for example) and a classic otaiko you tie on the back? I always takes me at least 40 min from juban till obijime 😅

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  3 роки тому +4

    They must make allowances for knots you can't tie by yourself it they allow the suzume (?) pre-tied (or perhaps most suzume is pre-tied)? And do they make rules about the kind of ties you may use? I noticed your datejime seems to be wider, like an obi-ita width, and your korin belt is a little different altogether than the regular one you might find.

    • @seanathanbeanathan
      @seanathanbeanathan 4 роки тому +1

      Sou japan on ebay sells this type of korin belt I believe, I'll find the name of it tomorrow. I wasn't sure about how it worked until I watched this and now I have a mighty need

    • @BillyMatsunaga
      @BillyMatsunaga  4 роки тому +2

      Sorry for the late reply!!! Yes, the obi arrangement is set as fukura suzume and all of them are pre-tied (usually you can't this arrangement prettily on your own). You have to use the all items that the school is using. (most beginners borrrow them from their sensei) The datejime as actually the same width. (I only use it for the contest btw, because I don't like this one). You can see more of the korin-belt int his video: ua-cam.com/video/d17NWbph1DU/v-deo.html
