Excellent teaching Robert! I think every Christian should make themselves listen to this teaching or teachings like this a few times a year to keep us humble in our heads in the right place.
In the spiritual realm it is a joy to be a servant in the natural realm you are correct it can be painful but when we focus on doing it unto the Lord it really deals with that pain and it all seems to vanish with the joy of the Lord working in us as we are being his servants on this earth. Question: how can one have a servant spirit or heart with family that is narcissistic and controlling? I would appreciate some Christ centered advice, if anyone has any. Thank you and God bless you.
Do you remember that there was an occasion in the Bible, where the people sought Jesus, but He hid themselves from them, because He knew what was in them?
Yes, become a servant. But not a doormat. And the narcissist wants a doormat only, to abuse until ready to throw away. We are not supposed to throw ourselves and our service at the feet of pigs! They'll destroy what's of value and come after you!.
So, rule of thumb is: our serving should add something of value, which bears fruit in the other person's life. When the other person just tries to get a free ride, that person will never grow any good fruit. Serve those, that will grow by your service. Be good to all, but never be devoured without it producing good fruit.
Yeah, I know, I have a very narcissistic brother. After years of serving in vain, I finally learned this myself and I had to go no contact in the end.
Ask God to place you into situations, where you can serve and it will actually do something good. For the long run. Thank God we have a spiritual family as well :)

Well personally I think that you need to pray for your family. The enemy is using your family as a stumbling block in your spiritual growth. As you serve the Lord keep your family in your prayers. My Dad is horrible half the time and I have come to understand that he's being manipulated by the devil unknowingly so I just pray for him everyday. One day your prayers will be answered and they will come to know Jesus and your problems will be solved.

I have same. Praying. But also learning when are the rt times of submitting vs not submitting to abuse. Being humble & giving with a servants heart is diff from allowing ourselves to be abused. Once yrs ago I was at work & managmt blasted me for not whatever enough etc. I looked up to Heaven & cried Lord!!! Then I heard: vengeance is mine I will repay says the Lord! All of a sudden managmt comes back over to me & rt in front of others appologize’s to me! I was shocked…That taught me God doesn’t expect me to allow abuse…but to cry unto the Living God who avenge’s us.
Just like any good parent: they serve their children around the clock at first. Baby needs food, cleaning, fresh diaper, attention and love. And the parents serve their children with whatever they need. Of course as the children grow, the parents will teach them different things and the child grows in taking little responsibilities for himself and the family as a whole.
The principle is simple though: what is less, is served by what is more. Those who can do more are willing to carry more burdens for the good of all and training up the next generation.
Those who cry for the attention are like the crying baby: see me, help me, love me. And by that of course in NO position whatsoever to lead anyone.
It seems like you did submit to being a servant & your heart was in it. But just didn’t like & ran away from abusive leadership. Doesn’t sound like Father God to tell you to stay in abusive situation or he’ll put back on you what He delivered you from…. That sounds like a lying spirit bc God is not like that. In past made old managmt appologize to me when they were abusive. Bc He said: Vengence is mine! I will repay! Saith The Lord. Then they came back out & apologized to me rt in front of everyone. Now I will say I have been betrayed by own fam. And suffering does come with servanthood. But at His timing I believe He will once again avenge. Sooo… this one’s a toughy. Bc also Israel went thru 400 yrs of abuse… So how to tell what is God to submit to & what is not…Lord bring clarity from your word.

Praying for someone is also a kind of service to him/her.

To serve is to love and do things for greater good.
People-pleasing ain't true servant nature. Learn to say "No" when it won't benefit anyone.
