Clever design with the beer can and aluminum foil. I noted steam loss at the outlet of the condenser tubes in the other designs. Suggest two items... Ice bath for the collection jar may capture exiting steam and condense water on the the sides. I'm a chemist... fashion a cooling jacket for the condenser tube... tube inside a tube. Counterflow tap water in the outer jacket to aggressively cool the condensed water/assist with steam loss at the exit. I recall, in one of your other videos, you used a "finned" oil cooler for air cooling. Same concept. Steam into the oil cooler >> The oil cooler placed into an "once thru" water bath or ice bath. Steam loss will be significantly reduced. I've been following your projects for years. Great channel.
I look at all that steam that could be saved and wondering how to catch that water. These are great Thank you. Solar is great for morning catching but gas is cheaper than electricity at the moment
I'll go with the 7, 8, 9 as that's what I really need when the grid goes down. My main concern was how to obtain 'the precious water' when it would be difficult to find some good drinking water in the coming troublesome times. Thank you so much and appreciate you sharing your super ideas. I'm going to try the last one first👍😊Blessings!!
Some people just want distilled water for other than survival reasons. In such cases the best source is a dehumidifier. It makes gallons a day. If you have one, be aware that what you throw away from it is distilled water.
Thanks! Great review of many viable methods. I like the solar ones. Especially since I'm in Florida. I suppose you could combine the solar with the pot method too

Thank you very much it’s important to be able to get distilled water to make colloidal silver . A little solar gig and an inverter for the silver machine and there you go .
Its much importent to drink destilled water atleast 1gallon of water :) and dont eat coocked Foods i challenge you to find one animal in nature that coocks their food :) Eat raw food fruit with loot of fruit juice in it because it is destilled water :) Much love from norway
Great synthesis showing years of excellent work! Thank you! I'm a teacher and I make new engineering projects for my students every year. I'm referencing your work here, but it would be great to have your personal details for that reference!
For #7, put in a ~20 mm pvc pipe in the clean upper bottle through the hole in the bottle cap. That should make it easier to collect the distilled water.
Can we wash electronics with this water or it still has some ions and minerals since its also going to be in contact with the tube and the tube is metal and it’s not guaranteed that the tube has no deposits of salts or minerals
hi there. it's a 1 1/4" (OD) slip to 3/4" threaded PVC reducer. note that since it's 1 1/4" OD (outer diameter), they probably sell it as 1" ID (internal diameter)
Heh, great work in this video and thanks for uploading! I have a question. What is the attachment on the kettle in the first build? I need that attachment and pipe! Any help with naming these parts would be much appreciated
What are the materials and methods to properly clean, sanitize, sterilize, and dry and handle the pans, pots, bowls, etc. before they are used in the distillation process and the same for the items used to hold and/or store the distilled water, please?
hi there and thanks. in several of the units i wanted to test to see how well the units work at removing salt. i don't have access to seawater so i mixed salt in to make "artificial seawater".🙂
Thank you, tap water here is bad enough to ruin a pot of coffee... I've taken to buying distilled, but this is better... solar might be necessary due to power outages.
Now what costs more? The electricity needed to steam a gallons worth of distilled water? Or a gallon of distilled water from the grocery store for 99¢?
Want to see solar powered from solar panels to using water heater. Might need 1200w for that but would essentially be free when the sun is out. My water distiller uses up to 800w. Wondering if the counter top istiler element could be converted to solar but it run of Ac o I not sure. Maybe use a high power buck converter to control voltage and heat what are your thoughts? I can distill about a gallon in 4 hours.
hey desertsun02 could you make a video on making a mask using snorkel mask and things you would get at the hardware store to protect against covid19? Thanks for the vid.
so distilling water makes it fresh water even old river water right. so why are we donating to water aid for clean water in third world countries with a few mineral tablets good to go.. well water aid is making a lot of money for the directors the female founder is making six figures a year...just saying
SOLID, thanks man, will need this in the coming years when everyone is forced back into the wild to live off the land, great video!!!
Great timing. Just last night I was reviewing some of your distilling and purification videos. Thanks for all your hard work
sweet!👍
Good stuff ! thanks for sharing! My car broke down and I need distilled water to flush my radiator but I cant drive to go buy some. This will help!

Boiling water with a bowl inside and upside down lid clearly looks easiest. Gonna do it when I need some humidity in my house.

Thanks so much with all your research and time.... number 9 looks the best and I have all of these items at hand.... Cheers!
hi. glad to help! ✔
I liked the last two best, 9 and 10. Thanks.

you're welcome! 😎
Thank you so much for your great works.
Amazing Bro-Thor ⚡
I like #3 the best and for survival #8 is good but some of them are really ineficcient. Thanks for sharing.
Which is the most efficient? Solar?

hi and thanks!
That's great mate, very useful. Thanks very much.
You're very welcome!
Thank you for sharing. I have some stuff for the tea kettle version but am trying to figure out how I would use it for essential oils
The BESTEST was the last example: I can do that IMMEDIATELY.
❤🌟💋🌬👍👏👏👏👏

What does the “coil” version do differently than a regular direct tube ?
Great synthesis showing years of excellent work! Thank you! I'm a teacher and I make new engineering projects for my students every year. I'm referencing your work here, but it would be great to have your personal details for that reference!
Which Method do you find quickest/most efficient? Awesome video btw
hi. probably the one that i call the deluxe stove top model with the coil.
For #7, put in a ~20 mm pvc pipe in the clean upper bottle through the hole in the bottle cap. That should make it easier to collect the distilled water.
so a thinner pipe is better, i thought a wider pipe would allow more steam per second
PPM Would be great to see on these.
Thank you

Following for answer
Check the plumbing section in your local hardware store
What are the materials and methods to properly clean, sanitize, sterilize, and dry and handle the pans, pots, bowls, etc. before they are used in the distillation process and the same for the items used to hold and/or store the distilled water, please?
Still waiting for an answer 2 years later? 🤪
Hey...I love your videos....can you te me why the salt has to be added?
hi there and thanks. in several of the units i wanted to test to see how well the units work at removing salt. i don't have access to seawater so i mixed salt in to make "artificial seawater".🙂
So I'd distilled water just the condensation from the steam? Can you drink it?
hi. yes, it;s super clean after it is distilled.
You are AWESOME
hi and thanks for the kind words 🙂✔💎
Is it possible to distill sea water?
hi. absolutely. these methods work great for that.👍🙂
It works cause the distillation removes the minerals from the water and it comes out purified. The minerals are left behind.
Imagine how efficient your coiled condenser would be if you threw it in an ice bath!😉
hi. that would be awesome. might triple the water output
How are the bottles stuck together on the solar powered one?
hi. a strong glue is the best way.
shine on
Thank you, tap water here is bad enough to ruin a pot of coffee... I've taken to buying distilled, but this is better... solar might be necessary due to power outages.
Now what costs more?
The electricity needed to steam a gallons worth of distilled water?
Or a gallon of distilled water from the grocery store for 99¢?
hi. it works out about the same. it's roughly 80 cents to $1.20 in electricity for every gallon of water you distill at home.
No price on peace of mind. The best things in life have no monetary value or at least they shouldn't.
Does this method get rid of chloramine and fluoride?
hi yes. distilling water can definitely remove both of those
how about solar panel powered water distiller?
