"Sheep" was the opening song on their monumental "In the Flesh" tour of 1977.
Quadrophonic sound system, inflatable pig, impeccable laser/light show, movie screen and perfect sound from talented musicians.
After attending 1009 concerts in my life pre-covid of course, I compare ALL my concerts too that magical night in June 1977, South Phillys Spectrum.
None have come close.
Saw the same show at Soldier Field in Chicago. I agree, same reaction. It was wonderful. One of 25 PF concerts I went to. However, I Went to see Roger Waters at the united Center in Chicago last month. Disappointing. He's become very political, pretty right wing. I don't count it in my string of PF concerts.
Notice how Battersea Power Station (the building on the album cover) looks like a dead sheep. This is almost certainly intentional, as whilst this painting is otherwise fairly accurate, the small building representing the head does not exist, and to my knowledge, never has.
And what is soaring above it? A pig.
The cover of "Animals" wasn't a painting. It was composed of two photographs (one had a good picture of the power station but a blue sky, the other had the right kind of dark sky). Then a shot of the inflatable pig was eventually superimposed on the composite as the pig (a) wasn't inflated on the first day; and (b) escaped on the second day and landed in a field, at which point they gave up.
@@psbarrow I remember the pig escaping now you mention it. So it's a composite photograph. Do you where the extra building (the sheep's head) comes from?
@@Ozzpot No idea.
Told you Sheep was an awesome song. Think about the entire message of Animals. So relevant in 2020
Pigs 3!
"You better stay home, and do as you're told!"
@Andrew Powers Hahaha good one.. I guess the joke is on all of us
Line up so we can reach HERD IMMUNITY. Dems do treat us like sheep
“Meek and obedient you follow the leader
Down well trodden corridors into the valley of steel.
What a surprise!
The look of terminal shock in your eyes.
Now things are really what they seem.
No, this is no bad dream. 🔪 🐑 🐑🐑😢
David Gilmour play the bass in this song...great musician !
And when Psalm 23 (Bible) revisidet is recited...wow...i love them 😍
david played this?? why didn't roger play it???
@@davidmack4495 ask him 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@Tudor Paisanu... however the lyrics of all the songs on the album are his.
Scusa se è poco😁...
Come diciamo noi in Italia 🇮🇹
The opening section is a Fender Rhodes electric piano in Dorian mode. Also used by Ray Manzerak on Riders on the Storm
You mentioned Lyrical meaning in your Dog's review.
The entire concept of the album owes much to allegorical work of George Orwell's Animal Farm.
Waters is and was known for his political influences. He wrote Pigs about his dislike of Political class. (He hated Margaret Thatcher and some of the lyrics are pointedly about women politicians). Dogs is allegorical to the middle class wise guy enforcers the Pigs use. The dogs think themselves able to break away from the pack but get fitted for collar and chain and ultimately get weighed down by the stone.
The sheep are the mindless masses the Pigs ultimately control.
That was Wright playing his Fender Rhodes electric piano at the beginning. The last track to do is only a couple of minutes, so you may wanna add something else to that video (e.g. as you like Gilmour's guitar work, try the live version of "Comfortably Numb" from the 1994 PULSE gig - many on here consider the outro as the best guitar solo ever seen).
And I'm pretty sure its through a Lesley Revolving Speaker aswell. 👍
@@adamandrew9052 R.I.P Richard. No Leslie. Pan Pot and reverse recorded drums ... Amazing
@@gioachinolorelli5138 I wasn't 100% sure. It just sounded like that effect bcos they used it quite a bit on DSOTM and Meddle.👍
"You better stay home and do as your told"
Thanks for a great review this is my favorite song from my favourite album been listening since the 70s to pink floyd just awesome 👌
Great reaction dude, to one of my all time favourite songs, off an album that probably altered my life at the time. Great to see you get into it so much. I saw a group called Echoes of Pink Floyd do this song incredible justice live last year, the bassist was playing a fretless base which kinda blew my mind! Enjoy your journey :)
its a piano, a Fender Rhodes, very popular in 1970's
Any good modern synth/keyboard has a Rhodes patch - still sound good today!
@@MrSammotube Yes that's right, but the sound that you can hear in the introduction of the song "The Doobie Brothers - Minute By Minute", is unique.

You think it can't get any better then you listen to another album. Dark Side of the moon, The Wall, Wish You were Here...... to name 3
'The Final Cut' is incredibly underrated.
And atom heart mother which was the first time they experimented with quadraphonics while using a full piece Orchestra. And then there's Echoes off Metal.
Not a siren. 'Stone, stone, stone, stone' still repeating from the end of Dogs
Age 13 I heard this high as Heaven and was scatterized across the sanity skies for a week
This song is like a nightmare that never ends...like a lunar eclipse on the last day of existence
bought every album when it came out.The Animalalbum is cool.sheep my favorite with the riff at the end.....but nothing equals the dark side of the moon
I grew up with this kind of music lots of great pink floyd this has to be the best album
Your on the right track , keep going , enjoy the ride !
This album came out during the punk period. The lyrics in this is more anti authoritarian than any of the punk bands brought out also the wall was the same.
Best track on the album.
And once again, I told you so!
Patience, young one...Pink Floyd is known for their long intros. 🔥🎶🤘🏼
Just thinking who could be that one guy who disliked this.
That wasn't a a panino, That instrument is called a Organ. Mostly used in Cristian Churches.
Thank you for letting me know! It’s a beautiful instrument
@@Nonstopdavid the instrument at the very beginning? That's an electric piano.
@@jordanghetler8011 thank you for letting me know!
6:02 Every time I hear that transition, you need to call the fire department to peel my body off the ceiling.
The instrument in the intro is a Rhodes electric piano.
Now, finally, it's time for The Wall...from start to finish. Just do a bit of research about the album beforehand...it will all make much more sense to you.
It is an electric piano at the beginning.
That is a electric piano at the beginning. Maybe a Rhodes piano.
not piano but fender rhodes
Alice in chains, down in a hole, nutshell, junkhead
Listen to Animals, front to back. You'll be amazed bud....
I will soon
You asked, you got.
USA today......
There was no reaction, I mean you snarled a lot but....any thoughts? This is my first time seeing you, I will check out one more video but I think you're just a poser. I may be mistaken
Well?
cheez unimpressed, he is a poser
@@marcweiss547 lmao
Don't know what a piano sounds like?
Stop being unpationat and arrogant
Desert Island material here mate. That loud/soft dynamic is just hypnotic and some of Richards best work by far. Drifting through the fog of the day punctuated by moments of sheer terror
I'm pushing 70 Pink Floyd was one of those bands my dad could listen to despite being country. He heard the On An Island CD. While riding to the airport the CD was stuck in the head unit. After it played through once I shut it off. He started complaining "what happened to the music" lol
the locals are MR Roger Waters
You dont know if that's a piano? I'm out. Good luck flipping burgers.
Strong !!!
